the most exciting things always happen behind closed doors, so i knew my first trip to cambridge couldn’t be your standard tourist visit.

i basically begged the internet to show me cool buildings and dorm rooms and wow did the girlies pull through. beatrice, ophelia, and essi were incredibly kind and welcoming, a common trait for everyone that I met on this trip, and gave us a tiny peek into the daily life of a student at one of the oldest universities in the world.

as we wandered arm in arm through the cobblestone streets looking for a bar that would serve us at midnight on a wednesday, i could feel the core memories starting to settle in, and when i finally slipped into my sheets seven hours later, all i could think was WOW ✨

I hated venice the first time I visited, and I know exactly why.

when I came here in 2017 it was summertime and insanely crowded with tourists, to the point at which you’d be surprised to hear someone speaking italian. every shop seemed to sell the same 5 souvenirs, and there was no evidence that anyone actually lived here: it felt like a fake disneyland set that had been made to pander to a foreigner’s idea of what venice should be like. returning in the off season totally changed my perception, because there was room to breathe when you wandered the streets and so many more signs of life, like these clothes hung out to dry across an alleyway. the shops weren’t catering to tourists as much so there was more variation in the items for sale, and it felt so much more real.

(as a side note these photos wouldn’t have been possible in the summertime: I stuck my phone in a windowledge and hoped for the best)
