The Ominous Coven - Book I

The Ominous Coven consists of several anonymous members, unaware of each other’s identity.

The members of the coven perform the rituals in solitude, unbeknownst of who else is performing the same ritual at a different location. The results of the two rituals will be merged into one, and then channeled into a physical object.

The purpose of the coven is to conjure textures through the spirits within. Textures without profane worth, textures without fortune attached to the members name, textures unchained by perception, expectation or recognition.

The power of the self is less than the power of the coven.

The textures are the sole purpose and intent.

(OR209) Peking Crash Team / Drinkluder - Böttad brud och 240.

Peking’s (Norrköpings) pride Edvin (Pollutant, Erectile Dysfunction Unit, half of HINGST, and dozen of more obscure projects) just happened to deliver the best PCT track I’ve heard for this split.
It’s a total fu***ng ripper.
It’s like a contact mic on a busted race car.
The noise is roaring like engines, the feedback screech like tires in high speed turns.
Intense!

Drinkluder returns with questionable samples of drunk chicks and straight to the point, bass heavy harsh noise without finesse.
The thickest track so far!

Could very well be one of the best harsh noise splits of the year, if you actually like harsh noise and aren’t just pretending because of clout.

No synths, no trends, no layering, no production, no overdubs, no mastering.
Swedish Harsh Noise Purity.

Having worked with Zach through the years, I’m honored to put out another split with him. And I do think this is his best track he’s ever recorded - tearing, abrasive textures of the finest sort.
The rien track is another short excursion in controlled contact mic crackle.

F**king finally, right?
It’s been a while, but this next release is a pretty massive one.

Sdug Bsngal is a new Swedish project consisting of R.(ex-Lifelover) and J. (Reverorum ib Malacht).
Musically the project moves between influences from Power Electronics, Black Metal, Blackened Noise, Modern Composition and Ritualistic parts.
The palette might seem broad and unruly, but there is never any excess of expression. It’s an overarching approach rather than a collection of scattered bits and pieces reaching across different parts of industrial music and metal.
It’s a mutual atmosphere rather than genre defining traits
Sdug Bsngal does not sound like you expect. It is an entity of its own.

Conceptually its less scattered.
Sdug Bsngal is Tibetan for “suffering”, and the tape title reads “Pathei-Mathos” which is Greek and means “knowledge through suffering”.
The idea of suffering philosophically stems from Increscunt animi, virescit vulnere virtus, which is Latin for “what does not kill you, makes you stronger”.
But this beyond a Nietzschean image and attempted intellectuality.
Sdug Bsngal is also not an extension of DSBM themes and aesthetics glorifying self-pity and suffering. It’s the opposite.
Suffering as a way of gaining knowledge of one’s self, of becoming more enlightened. Suffering physically to become physically stronger, suffering mentally to become mentally stronger.

K/T/R is the year old Harsh Noise collab between Thomas Puopolo and Richard Ramirez.
On this third tape we get a fair share of cascading waves of distorted noise, feedback, and crunching texture.
Classic and fresh at the same time.
Classic in the sense of being reminiscent of Richards style of harsh noise, but fresh with the addition of Puopolos approach and sound.
No bu****it harsh noise, plain and simple, yet tastefully raw and furious.

Personally I think this is my favorite material A.S., perhaps only surpassed by the Anonymous Masturbaudioum release Nylon Encasement which was a massive display of texture work.
This is different, it’s not really HNW, but that doesn’t matter. This is definitely a Harsh Noise high point this year.

It’s 2021, I started Ominous 2005. That’s 16 years of poor release choices and a constant preference for all things harsh as s**t.
I will always be eternally grateful to everyone who bought my releases and helped Ominous grow into what it is today.
Thank you so much for the support, it means the world to me that I am still, after 16 years, able to put out tapes with harsh fu***ng noise.

(OR197) Peking Crash Team / Calf Puller - Traktor Pulling
Single-sided split from Swedish hotrod harshhead PCT and Swedish newcomer/farmburner Calf Puller.
Edvin’s Pollutant project have received a lot of positive feedback, he’s had numerous tapes out on well-respected labels and Pollutant have been synonymous with
punishing PE. In my book Peking Crash Team have always delivered my kind of harsh noise. It’s raw, unpolished, no bu****it harsh noise. Simple and unrefined. But packing a serious fu***ng punch, every single time.
Calf Puller is a new Swedish project, we’ve recently seen the two first releases out on Anhedonia and Audible Mastication. Calf Puller treads the same putrid soil as PCT; it’s unpolished, unrefined, raw and minimalistic. What I’ve heard so far shows great promise.
The split then, is 17,5 minutes of lo-fi, simplistic and raw harsh noise, themed around tractor pulling.
Engines roar, smoke, wheels digging into the mud. Farmer John lights another cigarette as he looks back and sees his nemesis Pigman Willie shift gear to get ahead. The chain won’t burst. But if it does, it could mean he will have to give up his farm to the pi*****er and go work in “media” or something. No fu***ng joke.
Pull harder or die!

(OR200) Fäul - Total Necro
The 200th release on the most untrendy harsh noise label in the world.
Fäul put themselves right on the Swedish harsh noise map with Dominis Sathanas earlier this year.
Total Black Metal aesthetic and worship, combined with murky, crunching and crumbling harsh noise topped with ringing feedback and what sounds like blurred howling and shrieking.
Total Necro is an even bigger realization of the unholy vision. Sporadic Black Metal intros to some tracks, and even more furious harsh noise, piercing feedback, violent textures, fat fu***ng crunch and track titles in homage of the rawest Black Metal bands.

“For me, KNIVES material at the time (my favorite work of the collaboration being ‘Switchblade Princess’ - basically a perfect HN release) was an incredibly important audible document that enacted a culmination of the LA HN scene at the time, executed by two important figures from the scene, but was also much more. The development of the material was indicative to the way contemporary harsh noise artists were evaluating harsh sound at the time via the two artists who already had heavily influential recording and live actions perfected, but were now also generating a collaboration of harsh noise stripped and built for absolute power.”

I’ve seen the storm regarding Flesh Prison.
But they are just one label amongst many.

I’ve been told by a label that they didn’t have enough money to ship me my artist copies, despite the fact that half the edition sold out upon release and probably earned the label about $80. And even though international shipping sucks, sending 5 tapes to Sweden doesn’t cost $80.
It took months and basically me threatening to call the label out for it to actually send me my artist copies.
That’s not how a label is run.

I’m sick of this s**t. I’m sick of labels doing a fu***ng S**T JOB, but for whatever reason get a fu***ng pass because they’re new, insecure, sensitive, or the right kind of person for the general climate of the scene as it is today, they have mental issues to blame or they’re self-proclaimed friends with “everyone”. For some reason they just get a pass while they’re actually just screwing people over.
Do it fu***ng properly or don’t do it at all.

If you’re going to run a label, it’s technically very fu***ng EASY, but it requires hard work if you want to do it and keep it alive and also want it grow bigger; so you can do bigger editions, work with more established artists, release on more expensive formats, make more expensive releases (in other words becoming an elitist label. It’s sad but the moment you can actually work with your “musical heroes” and you start curating your label more thoroughly, you’re elitist. You just gotta deal with it.)

Here’s how it’s basically done:
1. Ask for/accept submissions.
2. Dub tapes/order dubbed tapes, and make sure they’re dubbed.
3. Print covers/order printed covers.
4. Release the tape.
5. Send out artist copies (could be done before you actually release something if you are waiting for a future release date for whatever reason).
6. Send out orders (in a timely fu***ng fashion).
7. You’re fu***ng done with a release, use the money that’s left for the next one.

7 easy as f**k steps to not do a s**tty job.
It’s actually as simple as that. If you do it that way you’re not making promises you can’t keep because you’re a fu***ng cry-baby or your car ran out of gas, or you needed money for rent, your partner broke up with you, or your favorite artist dropped a new box set. Don’t release 20 tapes in two months, sell half the edition of everything, post on social media about all the new s**t you buy, and then tell me you can’t send out artist copies because you’re short on cash.
Don’t offer to release artist from other countries if you can’t deal with international shipping.
STOP fu***ng posting pre-orders when you haven’t even sent the master files and art to any pressing plant or printing service that won’t ship you your release for another 9 months.
Stop claiming something is released when the physical product won’t ship for another 4 months. It’s not fu***ng released until you have a physical item you can actually ship to someone. If it doesn’t exist YOU HAVEN’T RELEASED IT. If you don’t have it, it’s a pre-order.
A pre-order is NOT a pre-order if it’s a fundraiser and the release might not happen.
Don’t use a pre-order to fund a release, use it to get money back after you’ve paid for the release.
A pre-order can’t be a way to fund a release, what happens if you don’t get enough pre-orders?

Don’t take anyone’s money if you won’t deliver what they paid you for. It’s as simple as that.

It’s an amazing album.
