Uniform was formed in 2013 by longtime friends and seasoned musicians Ben Greenberg (The Men) and Michael Berdan (York Factory Complaint). Working as a duo, they developed an onslaught of blistering metallic guitar licks with a backbone of unforgiving drum-machine. A punk fury that powered their 2015 debut, Perfect World, and its torrential follow up, 2017’s Wake in Fright (both released on Sacred Bones). The group’s third offering, The Long Walk (2018), represented a critical high watermark before they joined forces with The Body for a pair of collaborative albums, Mental Wounds Not Healing (2018) and Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back (2019). In 2020 the band returned with Shame out via Sacred Bones Records. This album marks their seventh year as a band based in New York, a city that with its changes has shaped the future of Uniform from the very beginning. You can now read the full interview with Michael Berdan on Gazette Musicale.

Electronic music duo Boy Harsher have always drawn from film as a source of inspiration for both their sound and visuals, with members Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller first meeting in film school. The daring darkwave musicians will now complete the next logical step by releasing a movie of their own, a move spurred on by the loneliness of the pandemic and Matthews’ multiple sclerosis diagnosis. The duo announced their forthcoming album ‘The Runner’ (Jan. 21, N**e Club/City Slang), which will serve as the soundtrack to a short horror film written and directed by them.

Lead single “Tower” features Matthews at some of her eeriest, with her deep alto insisting “You don’t want to know about me” as the music lies in wait. The tense synth rumbles and distorted keys bubble into a terrifying peak of Matthews’ desperate shriek. The accompanying video takes place within The Runner’s world, filmed on an old television set illuminating a dark room

Boy Harsher: The Sound of a Broken Heart. — Gazette Musicale

Jae Matthews and Gus Muller are not afraid to speak up or be upfront. Boy Harsher was one of the many bands to show solidarity to the black community and the 15-26 million people in the United States who have participated in demonstrations over the killing of George Floyd and others at the hands of police in recent months. “America has long lived on borrowed time for both overt and subtle racist tendencies,” Matthews says. “Institutionalized and systemic injustices have made life in this country challenging and dangerous for people of color. Change should’ve happened a long time ago. [I’m] hoping that this movement will impose real change and equality,” she continues. READ THE FULL INTERVIEW.

Insect Arc — Gazette Musicale

Insect Ark are back with their third, and most harrowing and punishing record to date.

The Vanishing, out via Profound Lore Records, is heavier, darker, and denser than anything Insect Ark has ever done.

Insect Ark, currently made up of founder Dana Schechter (Swans) and Andy Patterson (ex SubRosa), have been crafting uncomfortable soundscapes that feel both intimate and icy cold since 2011. Nightmarish horror film-like visions, outer space travel, and gritty noir textures were explored in their pre

Faith No More will play on May 22- 23 at Los Angeles' Banc Stadium with Korn, System Of A Down. Following the Los Angeles date, Fairh No More will head to Europe for a couple of shows in June .
The band released six albums between 1985 and 1997, then split up for a decade plus before reuniting to tour in 2009. Eventually, the five-piece outfit decided to hit the studio and yielded 2015's critically hailed album “Sol Invictus”. In 2017, they took another extended break, but discussion of the potential for new music started up again in late 2018 📸 @ Brooklyn, New York City

Godspeed You Black Emperor returned from a long hiatus at the end of 2010 to begin playing live shows again, and with the hugely acclaimed “Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend” release in 2012 marking their first new release in a decade. In 2015 the band released “Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress”, a sterling celebration of the band's awesome dialectic, where composition, emotion and 'note-choice' is inextricable from an exacting focus on tone, timbre, resonance and the sheer materiality of sound. Their last record "Luciferian Towers" (2017) contains their most melodic and powerfully positive-sounding music to date. “An end to foreign invasions. An end to borders. The total dismantling of the prison-industrial complex. Healthcare, housing, food and water acknowledged as an inalienable human right. The expert fu***rs who broke this world never get to speak again.” - Godspeed You! Black Emperor ▪️

If you didn't see Sleep in the past couple of years, you may have missed your chance. The stoner band will take a long hiatus starting from January 2020. "Sleep has not broken up," reads the message shared on their facebook "..we are taking a much needed break for the time being.." After the breakup at the end of the 90's, the band reformed in 2009 and has played sporadic live dates internationally since. In 2018, Sleep released their comeback album, "The Sciences", on Third Man Records.

Midnight presented the new album 'Rebirth By Blasphemy' during a secret show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn. "It's a rebirth, it's about saying yes, taking opportunities, taking a fu***ng chance," states Midnight's sole driving force, Athenar. These sentiments are backed up by the notorious and prolific underground band's trademark blend of speed metal, black metal and punk rock, sounding both fuller and more raucous than ever before. The new album "Rebirth By Blasphemy", out via Metal Blade Records, is a ruthlessly catchy collection, every song, vicious as they are, wielding the kind of hooks that sink deep and don't let go, and this too came naturally. ▪️

Iggy and The Stooges. 50 years of rock’n’roll — Gazette Musicale

Iggy Pop, Ron and Scott Asheton, and Dave Alexander predicted the future of rock ’n’ roll 50 years ago with the unrelenting sonic assault heard on Iggy And The Stooges. Armed with hard-hitting tracks like “1969,” “No Fun,” and “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” the album kicked down the door for future generations of punk rockers. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acknowledged the band’s indelible legacy when it inducted them in 2010.

Despite flying under the critical and commercial radar when it was released in 1969, The Stooges debut self-titled album would eventually go on to achieve legendary status. That rise was fueled, in no small part, by the generations of artists who have been influenced directly and indirectly by the b

Russian Circles: Post-rock’s most stalwart forces. — Gazette Musicale

With the release of their latest record “Blood Year” via Sargent House, Russian Circles continue to remind the world why they have reigned as one of post-rock’s most stalwart forces. The Chicago trio have always pushed volume and timbre to absolute limit and beyond, but Blood Year finds Russian Circles at their most brutalizing.

Russian Circles named their 2016 album Guidance in reference to the uncertainty of the future. It was a fitting title for the times, with the album coming out a few months before America’s tumultuous presidential election, but it was intended more as a reference to the band’s own absence of a bl...

Boris: Crossing the Horizons of Heavy — Gazette Musicale

Heavy, for Boris, is more a way to be than a musical style. Their songwriting is unrestricted, the end result is often different than what came before it, but that’s only because the band allows the music to speak to them, rather than the opposite.

Although the journey has been long, Boris has never strayed from their initial approach. Home at Last: Lifting the Veil on Chelsea Wolfe’s Music — Gazette Musicale

Chelsea Wolfe is always exploring contrasts. The determined avant-garde musician has spent her career making music that’s as fascinating as it is uncategorizable. Her music touches on everything from metal to folk, and there’s something consistently, undefinably powerful about her live performances. Her latest record, "Birth of Violence" (Sargent House), which was released earlier this year, pushes Wolfe’s art even further.

Sunn O))) will release “Pyroclasts” through Southern Lord Recordings on October 25th▪️
“Pyroclasts” is the result of a daily practice which was regularly performed each morning, or evening during the two week “Life Metal” sessions at Electrical Audio during July 2018. The music on “Pyroclasts” is inextricably woven to “Life Metal”. It exists on the very same tape reels, was explicitly recorded by Steve Albini. The brightness and vividness of that glorious session glares through these four tracks, the precision and radiance, prismatic lustrousness of the saturation, the elemental sculptural shapes, the abstract renderings. It is a sister, or perhaps a shadow album. Or perhaps the now apparent miasma or aether. But it also exists in a form of a pause, a time space which exist in between and around the compositional structures of SUNN O))) titanic works▪️
