The next thirteen13 livestream (episode 39) will be the last one. I've not decided yet whether to stop completely or just take a break from it, I'll see how I feel after time away, but for now, lets assume this is it. The End.
If you want the (very) long version, then read on below
There comes a time where you have to admit defeat, where you have to accept the fact that you're not 'popular' enough to justify the effort and cost of streaming.
Unlike some I don't have a permanent set up, and have to literally move furniture to make space to stream. I have to allow at least 90 minutes to set up and then another hour to tear down again, so a four hour stream takes at least six and a half hours of my time. This means I'm stuck with the Saturday evening slot as there's no way I can do this after work during the week, and any time on Sunday is taken by people with far higher numbers than I dare dream of and that I cannot (or will not) compete with.
During the pandemic it felt I what I was doing had value, but people have lives now. Numbers are down, Subs have plummeted, and while it's never been about the money, I buy a lot of music that is not always suitable for club play (or at least not Mondlicht!) and it's costing me a lot more each month than I can hope to make back. I have equipment that needs replacing, and I can no longer afford to do that either. Last month my Twitch earnings were $14.96. I can no longer afford to pay to do this.
BUT... (assuming you've read this far and give a toss)
One new thirteen13 set each month will be still be made available to stream for free and if you wish to support me (and it would be greatly appreciated) then you can become a 'fan' which allows you to download it as well. Please follow me there as at the very least it will raise my profile on the site. These will be new sets, created for my own amusement and to still help to get new music heard. You'll find me at Hearthis(dot)at(forward slash)martinoldgoth
Fans will also have access to stream and download live sets from any club and festival work I do that I'll upload, and from November at least one other set a month from the archives (all those themed sets through Lockdown will eventually be there), or planned ideas that never happened will now see the light of day.
So, as a fan you'll always get at least two sets a month, for a lot less than a sub on Twitch, crafted with the same level of care I'd put into livestreams.
If you have subbed on Twitch, and some of you have done this for a very long time now, then I thank you from the bottom of my heart, your support means more to me than I can put into words, but unless I start again which is unlikely right now, you might want to save the money and cancel (or become a fan on Hear This instead to still support me), unless you feel the sub price is worth it just to get that 'banger' emote, in which case, thank you.
It's been a hell of a ride, We've met a lot of people through Twitch and had an great experience there, but the time has come to call it quits, apologies to the few that always tuned in and hung around, we'll miss the laughs.
Cheers.
