Our winter van build continues. We’ve had some favorable weather and Matt has been installing our composting toilet. We've also built a double bed without flares in our 144 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2022 4X4.

Join us in this video as we progress slowly but steadily on our van build. We’re planning a trip to see the April Eclipse so we have to put the pedal to the metal to get Clarity II road trip ready.

In this video, we’ll show you the details and dead ends we made as Matt designed and built the pull-out composting toilet cabinet.

Then we’ll take you on a detailed tour of how he built our double bed without flares in a 144-wheel-based Sprinter van.

Reflections on 2023 bring up a range of emotions: the never-ending winter, frustrations with YouTube, and ultimately giving up on the Transit Trail Edition van we ordered in March. All of this reminds us of the year’s trials and disappointments.
However, digging back into the 2023 footage, we discovered wonderful van life memories and breathtaking footage of our spring travels to the desert.
2023 was a pivotal year. We were forced to explore why we are still making YouTube videos after the frustrations of our channel collapse following an incredible collaboration with Exploring Alternatives and filming restrictions in national parks and public lands.
It was a time of reckoning, and we came through it with renewed clarity about creating videos from inspiration and joy and continuing to hone our photography, videography, and editing skills.
Topping it all off, we followed our guidance in letting go of the Transit Trail Edition van and purchasing our 2022 4x4 Sprinter van.
Bursting with excitement, we can’t wait to share our adventures in Clarity II in 2024.
Buckle your seat belts. It going to be an amazing year!

Our NO-VAN VAN BUILD | Laying Out Our Electrical Plumbing & Heating Systems in our Transit Trail Edition Van

Our new Transit Trail Edition Van remains in a parking lot at the factory in Kansas City. There is no word yet about it being delivered any time soon. We would gladly fly there to pick it up, but that is not allowed. So we wait.

For months we’ve been working on doing everything we can to build out the fan without actually having the van. Matt’s been building cabinets, laying out the electrical system, the plumbing system, the heating system, and the propane lines, and in this video, we’ll take you through all of these van systems.

We are now at the place where we can’t do any more work until we have the van on site. So, we’re letting go. We’re coming to terms with the fact that the van could be weeks or even months away from delivery.

We are still waiting for our Transit Trail Edition Van. As far as we can tell it’s still parked in Kansas City awaiting delivery.

Are we waiting around, twiddling our thumbs?

NO WAY.
We’re moving forward ~ with or without the van.

We were able to get measurements from a Transit eVan parked at our dealership so that Matt could begin building the van cabinets.

In this video, Matt will step you through building lightweight, but sturdy cabinets for our new Transit Trail Edition van. This first cabinet will house our Dometic CRX 110S DC fridge and our AirHead Composting Toilet.

For the cream on top, he’s adding a pull-out table for use with the swiveling driver’s side seat.

We’re still waiting for the delivery of our new Ford Transit Trail Edition Van, but we aren’t sitting around waiting for it.

In this video, we’ll give you an update on the van ~ where it is, and how we’re preparing for this exciting new van conversion.

We had a follower alert us to the problems with flexible solar panels, so we looked into it and we’ll share what we discover in this video.
