Barcelona ramp up Philippe Coutinho pursuit as club chiefs arrive in England to seal deal for Liverpool star
arcelona's pursuit of Philippe Coutinho was stepped up on Tuesday morning when club directors arrived in England in an attempt to close the deal so the player can make his debut against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Oscar Grau, Raul Sanllehi and Javier Bordas hope to return to Barcelona on Tuesday night with the deal done and believe they are now pushing against an open door with Liverpool having accepted that Coutinho wants to leave.

Barcelona had an opening offer for £72million turned down two weeks ago by Liverpool and a second offer closer to £80m also failed to convince.

Manchester City 4-1 Real Madrid: Nicolas Otamendi, Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Brahim Diaz strike for Pep Guardiola's side as they win in Los Angeles

If Pep Guardiola’s vision for Manchester City takes shape over the course of the next 10 months, he may look back on the night his team dismantled back-to-back European champions Real Madrid at the Los Angeles Coliseum as the moment it all started to fall into place.
It has come at a cost – £217million so far, to be precise. But if Guardiola can produce results, and performances, like this then his paymasters in Abu Dhabi will view it as money very well spent.
This is pre-season, of course. Early days. Changes were made by both sides and key players are still missing, not least Cristiano Ronaldo. But putting four goals past a team like Real at any time of year is no mean feat, and City did it here in some style in front of 89,000 – the biggest crowd for a football game ever at this iconic venue.

Barcelona 1-0 Manchester United: Neymar punishes Antonio Valencia error as Red Devils lose the final match of their American tour
One of the intriguing plots to this pre-season for Manchester United centres on their defence. More specifically, the centre of their defence.
Who will partner Eric Bailly at the heart of Jose Mourinho’s back four? The answer is not quite as clear cut as we might have imagined when Victor Lindelof was paraded in June, after United lost to Barcelona in this friendly.
He might have cost £31million but the Iceman could yet be left in the cold during the opening weeks of this campaign. Lindelof, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are effectively on trial.

Chelsea outcast Nemanja Matic trains with Eden Hazard after being left out of Asia tour while Pedro begins recovery from multiple fractures

Chelsea's wantaway midfielder Nemanja Matic was put through his paces at the club's Cobham training base after being left out of the pre-season tour of Asia.
Matic has been told his wish to move to Old Trafford and team up again with Jose Mourinho will be granted as a gesture of goodwill in view of his service to the club.
And with his heart seemingly set on reuniting with his former Blues boss, Antonio Conte decided against taking the Serbian midfielder to the Far East.
Manchester United target Ivan Perisic could leave Inter Milan if we find replacement, reveals Luciano Spalletti

Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti has conceded that Manchester United target Ivan Perisic could leave this summer — but only if he finds a realistic replacement.
United, who have already signed Romelu Lukaku for £75million and Victor Lindelof for £30.7m, have been heavily linked with a move for the 28-year-old.
However, a move appears to be hanging in the balance with Croatia winger Perisic currently involved in Inter's pre-season tour of China and Singapore.
Manchester United on red alert as Renato Sanches admits he is ready to leave Bayern Munich this summer
Renato Sanches has declared he is unhappy at Bayern Munich and wants to leave the German giants.
Sanches, who cost Bayern £27.5million when he made the move from Benfica last summer, only made six Bundesliga starts for the Bavarian club last season and admits he is itching for a move.
That news could go down well at Old Trafford, with Manchester United reportedly among the midfielder's admirers.
Arsenal to submit third offer of £50m for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar after £45m bid was rejected

Arsenal will submit a third offer for Monaco forward Thomas Lemar worth £50million.
Having signed Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, the Gunners are focusing on getting a deal for the France international over the line.
Arsenal have already had two offers, their latest worth £45m, rebuffed by the Ligue 1 club. Monaco have insisted Lemar is not for sale, but that has not stopped the north London club from trying to land the 21-year-old.

Manchester City set to battle Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe after opening talks with Monaco in hope of hijacking £160m deal for forward
The tug of war for Kylian Mbappe has intensified with Manchester City looking to hijack the Monaco star's world record move to Real Madrid.
City have opened talks with the 18-year-old French sensation and are pursuing a deal that would shatter the £89million deal that brought Paul Pogba to Manchester United last year.
Real have agreed a £160m six-year deal but City are refusing to give up the chase.
And speaking ahead of City's pre-season game against Madrid in Los Angeles in the early hours of Thursday, Pep Guardiola refused to rule out a move for Mbappe.

Barcelona have bid €80million (£72m) for Liverpool's Brazil midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

AFRICAN NATIONS CUP TO BE MOVED TO JUNE/JULY FROM 2019
The African Nations Cup will be moved to June and July and the size of the competition will grow from 16 to 24 finalists from the next edition in 2019, the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) executive committee decided on Thursday.
Radical changes to Africa's leading competitions were formalised as CAF's executive committee met in Rabat and adopted recommendations made at a wide-ranging symposium in Morocco earlier in the week.
The move will be welcome news to the Premier League and clubs across Europe as it means they will no longer lose players during the middle of the season.
The tournament is currently staged in January and February and contested by 16 teams, but that will increase by eight and be held during June and July from 2019.

Chelsea are very interested in signing Sergio Aguero, Sky sources understand
Chelsea have "serious and strong interest" in signing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, according to Sky sources.

The Blues will try to sign a striker this summer to replace Diego Costa, who has been told he is not in Antonio Conte's plans for next season.

After missing out on Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea have turned their attention to forwards such as Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund), Andrea Belotti (Torino) and Aguero.

Euro Papers: Diego Costa furious as Chelsea block €60m Atletico move

Joe Hart has passed his medical ahead of his loan move from Manchester City to West Ham, according to Sky sources.

Hart is set to join on a season-long loan, although it is understood West Ham will have an option to buy the England international next summer.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan with Serie A side Torino, having been deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester City following the arrival of manager Pep Guardiola.

Manchester United are making progress with a deal to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan, Sky sources understand.

Perisic's price has been a sticking point in protracted negotiations between the teams, with Inter holding out for £48m for the 28-year-old.

The Serie A side also enquired about the possibility of United's young French forward, Anthony Martial, going the other way in the deal.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not be returning to Manchester United this summer, with manager Jose Mourinho admitting a move for the Portuguese has always been "mission impossible".

Last month the 32-year-old Real Madrid striker became disgruntled as he felt singled out for disproportionate treatment by Spanish prosecutors, who accused him of evading tax of 14.7million euros (£12.8m).

The 32-year-old centre-back has been described as a “deep thinker” by Arsene Wenger and he will take over the running of the academy for the 2018/19 season with Luke Hobbs overseeing things until then.
On their website Arsenal said Hobbs had done an “outstanding job” since the departure of Andries Jonker to manage Wolfsburg last spring and added that Mertesacker would remain “an important part of our squad while developing his knowledge and understanding of the academy” this season.
Mertesacker, who signed for Arsenal from Werder Bremen in August 2011, added: “This is the start of an exciting new chapter for me and I am delighted that I will be able to stay part of the Arsenal family.

The club had confirmed earlier in the day that they had agreed a fee with Everton of £75million plus £15m add-ons.

Mourinho picks new Man Utd captain as Rooney nears Everton
Jose Mourinho has reportedly told Michael Carrick he will succeed Wayne Rooney as Manchester United captain.
Rooney is on the verge of sealing a £250,000 a week deal to return to Everton after 13 highly-successful years at Old Trafford.
But Rooney’s departure means United must select a new club captain – and Mourinho has reportedly handed the honour to veteran midfielder Carrick, according to The Sun – with popular Spain star Ander Herrera selected as vice captain.
Former England star Carrick, who has regularly worn the armband in the past, is likely to embark on his final year as a player before hanging up his boots. The former Tottenham man was given a contract at the end of May to keep him at Old Trafford until next summer.
Rooney, meanwhile, is closing in on a move back to Goodison Park and his agent, Paul Stretford, held further talks with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright on Wednesday.

Man United beat Chelsea to £200,000-a-week Romelu Lukaku as £75m striker goes for medical in Los Angeles
Manchester United have beaten Chelsea to the £75million signing of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
United blindsided Chelsea with their covert move for Lukaku, using their £89m world record signing Paul Pogba to convince the forward to join him at Old Trafford.
Close friends Lukaku and Pogba have been holidaying together on the west coast of America and both are expected to join up with Jose Mourinho’s squad in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Pogba is understood to have played a key role in persuading Lukaku — who will undergo his medical in the US on Thursday night — to abandon a return to Chelsea and instead link up with him and Mourinho at United.
Although Chelsea maintain they are still in the hunt to sign Lukaku, the 24-year-old is set to undergo a medical in the US, with United hopeful of completing the deal in time for him to train with his new team-mates in LA on Monday.
Lukaku is understood to have been offered a four-year deal with the option for a further 12 months and is set to earn a salary in the region of £200,000-a-week.
United’s successful pursuit of Lukaku has also seen them end their interest in Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, leaving the Spanish giants red-faced.
