“Arthur Russell’s music is best known, and loved, for the way it gathers all manner of incompatible influences, and genres, and turns them into something singular, unique.”

Anthony Carew explores Russell’s enduring influence and his small yet significant filmic legacy.

Whilst Arthur Russell left behind a cache of amazing recordings, he is also survived by a small yet significant filmic legacy.

We worked with streetwear brand Champion Australia and New Zealand to produce the campaign for its inaugural Pride collection Champions of Pride.

See our feature about the making of this campaign and the importance of q***r cultural production and representation, both in front and behind the camera.

The Champion Pride range is online and in store now.

“Pride is a chance for companies to demonstrate true allyship," asserts Sissy Screens Editor Tali Polichtuk.

Happy Pride Month! To celebrate, Champion Australia and New Zealand has launched its first ever Pride range and Sissy Screens worked with the cult streetwear brand alongside PUSH and The Taboo Group to produce the campaign for Champions of Pride.

The collection is brought to life by five q***r artists from Australia and New Zealand: Australian musician Jesswar, Frances Cannon Artist, DJ and producer Sullivan, artist Joseph and New Zealand dancer Elvis Lopeti.

The launch of the range marks a union between Champion and Q***r Sporting Alliance, and a partnership with Sissy Screens. Champion proudly supports Sissy Screens and our editorial efforts to create & commission q***r screen content.

The L Word: OG vs GQ—which one tops? Comedian Isabel Angus misses the days of Bette yelling, “can I get a sippy cup over here? Jesus!” But she’ll keep watching to get to the part where Mama B (hopefully) hooks up with Dani.

Sissy Screens thinks that the original slams the reboot and has teamed up with Kitty Chrystal to create some alternative storylines.

This International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), we salute the trans and GNC pioneers who fought boldly and tirelessly for the rights of all LGBTQIA+ people and other marginalised communities. There’d be no Stonewall uprising without Marsha, no Pride without Sylvia, no liberation without the countless other activists who do the work of organising and agitating.

Photographer Mariette Pathy Allen spent over forty years documenting the transgender, genderfluid, and intersex communities. These exquisite photos capture subjects in both the public and private spheres, including parties, balls, protests and funerals.

Keep fighting the good fight—in the words of Marsha ‘Pay it No Mind’ Johnson, ““No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.”

Mariette Pathy Allen’s work is pioneering and powerful. Through the sheer volume of her documentary photography, she has captured trans and gender diverse communities in all their glory and nuance—from portraits of family life to conferences, drag to party scenes, and everything in between.

The MIFF program has landed! We’ve taken it upon ourselves to pluck out the q***r films that have caught our eye, and tell you why:

’A Fantastic Woman’, Sebastián Lelio’s latest character study of a young trans singer (played by trans actress Daniela Vega) in a relationship with an older man; ‘Call Me By Your Name’ and ‘Beach Rats’ for their evocation of adolescent sexuality; 'The Ornithologist’ for its absurdism and coupling of q***r sensuality with Christian allegory; and ‘Once Upon a Time in the Western Suburbs’ (part of VR Package 3) for an opportunity to get thrust into a street dance battle choreographed by Bhenji Ra.
