Afro-Latina

by Vasti Carrion
(Pacoima, California, USA)

He dissected my face
with his scalpel eyes,
my face is like a math equation
they have to solve,
Trying to make sense
of a wonderous face.

Sunday

by Thomas Mitchell
(Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK)

Morning proceeds, not rushing nor slowing for me to awaken from my slumber,
When I do arise the thought of nothingness and cease of activity increases the sloth within me.
Away from the dredges of toil, this small margin of comfort will be
realised.

Nobody mutters

Transmission is a burglar
Cracking through the windows of routine
Inputting and displaying
Broken news on untampered screens
Tonight

Grief, Waiting

by C. A. Legault
(Saint-Eustache, Quebec, Canada)

The foundering of my hobby-horse heart
or of whatever other vessel that once faced the sun.

I feel the way a ceiling lamp moth does, now,
as dust.

Imaginings of the Familial

by Joel Schueler
(Stroud, Glouchestershire, England)

Bandaging the bloodied sceptre
passed down like the baton from generations passed,
must you hold up those warring, quarrelling words,
watching the watering can
bathe the blade, watching the watering can
moisten roots of family trees?

What Say the Trees of Compiègne?

by Sylvia Anne Telfer
(Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, Scotland)

Stiff-legged all the elevens goose-stepped in
on one date in late 1918, and in that lean dawn
the Armistice swooped down with wing-clipped
black eagles bulging in beak, hurtling them to railcar
deep in the forest of Compiègne, to the trees.

Upon the Wind

by Steve Carter

Upon the wind my lover sighs,
In wheat I stand beneath blue skies.
Her face appears across the grain.
Wide swaths bend down as if in pain,
And in so doing vocalize.

Actual Independence Day

by Devanshi Soni
(Delhi, India)

The day she will go somewhere which is not near,
And yeah, that too without any fear;

The day she will walk on the road very late at night,
And yeah, she will come back totally alright;

The day she will wear short skirt,
And yeah, she will not come across any flirt;
