Artificial Intelligence is the holy grail of technology. But the dawn of AI has already broken: we see it in algorithms that predict what you want to buy, decide what news you see… even judge whether or not you should go to prison. What is ‘All Things Equal’?
We pride ourselves on an egalitarian society, but how equal are we? All Things Equal is an investigative podcast, going to the root of inequality in our society. We'll take you to meet the people affected most, and those trying to turn things around.
In our first season, After #MeToo, we explored gender, power and what feminism means today through the stories of real women.
Our second season, Uniform, looks at the great equaliser — education. We discover what happens to kids who fall between the cracks and meet some remarkable people who've been there to catch them.
This season takes you into the school yard and beyond, where kids aren't immune to the power imbalances at play in our wider society. From enrolment, to graduation, there are a series of decisions that take place about and around kids that can lead to them getting ahead or falling behind. But who makes those decisions? And when kids do fall through the gaps, who is there to catch them? Through the stories of real students and staff, All Things Equal will change the way you think about learning. Where better to learn about equity than in school?
All Things Equal is a 2SER podcast made in collaboration with the Centre of Social Justice and Inclusion at the University of Technology Sydney.
The podcast is hosted by Verity Firth, and produced by Ninah Kopel, Ollie Henderson and Miles Herbert.
