Our new podcast is here from Rotterdam hotshot Danou P, a super-talented producer who shares a studio and collaborates with Chicago ex-pat Jamie 3:26 https://soundcloud.com/monologues/m74-danou-p

Rotterdam’s Danou P has been one of our favourite producers this year, releasing a slew of standout tracks both solo and alongside his studio partner, Chicago star Jamie 3:26. With a knack for exquisite melody and infectious grooves, his music is imbued with warmth and a discernible human touch. If he keeps going like this he’ll go far. This mix features some exclusive unreleased bizness, various jazzy workouts and his piano house stomper ‘The Good Old Days (Are Now)’—one of our favourites of 2023.

*How would you describe your sound?*

I was trained as a keyboardist and later started producing. Therefore I tend to play and record a lot myself instead of relying on samples. I love ‘90s Deep House and I’m a sucker for those old school sounds. I think you can describe my sound best as Deep House influenced by the golden era of the genre, but made by a musician/keyboardist with a modern touch. Having said that I love to go down different roads like more Disco, Italo and electro sounding stuff.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I’ve always been inspired by old Funk, Boogie and Disco. There is something about the soul in it and the synthesizer sounds that will always resonate with me. As far as House goes I really like Kerri and ‘90s Deep House artists alike. Newer artists that I really admire and draw inspiration from are: Makez, Clive From Accounts, Felipe Gordon, Chaos In The CBD, COEO, I can keep going hahaha.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

I had great fun doing this mix. I don’t usually play that many of my own tracks in a set and to my surprise it was actually really easy to get to 60 minutes. It was really cool to find out that some tracks fit really well together. This is something I’m definitely going to remember and use when I’m playing in the future! I tried to show very different sides of me as an artist in this mix. I played a couple of tracks from me and Jamie 3:26 including new remixes we’ve done, some older tracks that will be released in the near future and some original tracks that are out already. I also played an edit of ‘Street Player/ that I made recently. I just made that one for myself as a straight up edit and tool on the dancefloorl. I think a lot of people don’t get to that part of the song when they play it and they tend to play the most well known parts as somewhat of a crowdpleaser. But this last part is where it’s at for me! It’s a great groove and it just keeps building and going.

The latest episode in our podcast series—where producers mix an hour of their own productions—comes from UK talent Alex Virgo https://soundcloud.com/monologues/m73-alex-virgo

He has been cutting an ever-more-impressive figure of late, following releases on Nocturne and Lost Palms with some absolute stormers for Hot Haus Recs and True Romance. With an always colourful, melodic yet punchy sound that spans Eurodance vibes, splashes of techno and disco and melodic house, he's very much one to keep an eye on, and this mix of his own mostly unreleased productions is an absolute treat.

*How would you describe your sound?*

My sound has kind of evolved over the past couple of years, a byproduct of covid lockdowns I guess but fundamentally its the tougher side of house music with some elements of disco.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I think in terms of eras its the '80s and early '90s. I take a lot of inspiration from House, disco and Italo disco particular the synths, drums and some times even the vocals.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

This mix is predominantly made up of unreleased demos, I’ve had a lot of time in the studio recently sincing moving and its given me interesting results which im really happy with but also slightly nervous to share, but f**k it.

Hope you enjoy x

It's been a while but it's very much been worth the wait: our new podcast episode is out now, mixed by the mighty Tour-Maubourg.

https://soundcloud.com/monologues/m72-tour-maubourg

https://www.mixcloud.com/Monologues/m72-tour-maubourg/

One of our favourite producers of 2022 steps up with an exclusive 64 minutes of almost entirely unreleased material. Parisian producer Tour-Maubourg has released an remarkable body of work in the past couple of years that connects the dots between his city's deep house and nu jazz heritage (e.g. St-Germain, Wuz, Cassius) and the contemporary jazz scene, where sumptuous 4/4 grooves and broken beats are laced with sweet vintage and analog synth solos and motifs. We predict the biggest things for him and are very happy to have him contribute to our long-running series.

*How would you describe your sound?*

I’m trying to produce modern music, mainly house, jazz, and dub related with an old school and warm feel.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

If I had to name three main influences it would be Ron Trent and Chez Damier, for their vision and reflection on pushing forward the sound.

Basic channel for their exploration of texture and ambience. Their sound has a unique feel.

Nicolas Jaar for his abilities to touch the masses with non pop music. His ability to make complexity simpler so that anyone can understand his music.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

I was very happy that it was only made out of my production. As I have tons of music I stick that will probably not be released, it’s a good way to take it out of my hard drive and give it a second life 🙏

Our latest podcast is live from Berlin's Floyd Lavine https://soundcloud.com/monologues/m70-floyd-lavine

One of Berlin’s hottest properties takes the helm, mixing nothing but his own productions covering all corners of his refreshingly original deep, tribal, soulful, Afro palette.

*How would you describe your sound?*

I would describe my sound as an interpretation of African electronics - my approach is to capture what I call an Afrofuturist vision pushing the boundaries with an aim to expand the pallet of African electronic .

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I’m an always on the lookout for new and inspiring ideas whether it’s music or just a great conversation. Life is inspiring enough on its own. My family, my friends and my fellow artists inspire me . Where I grew up and where I live currently brings a source of inspiration.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

What I wanted to capture with this mix is a mood and journey that explores all parts of who I am as an artist and DJ. My sound is evolving but yet quite a unique take on electronic music. I have added original music from 8 years ago to modern stuff that I’ve done recently including from remixes to edits. I think the audience will have a sense of my style as producer and my vision as an Afro futurist.

Our new release is out today from THRILOGY smarturl.it/m49

Bristol boy Thrilogy makes his debut on Monologues with two typically stunning tracks from his lab. The man behind Rave On Avon Festival, the sex-positive No Strings parties and the excellent Fate And Fiction Recordings comes up roses on 'Give My Love', a rousing anthem with a real Murk / Tenaglia vibe in its big room synths and diva vocal samples that could be a big one across the festival season. 'Heather' provides some balance with its 2-step-infused rhythms and pretty melodies making for a more introspective moment.

Our new podcast is live from South African house music don and Stay True Sounds label boss Kid Fonque. An hour of deep, soulful productions from his oeuvre https://soundcloud.com/monologues/m69-kid-fonque

*How would you describe your sound?*

Always soulful, very influenced by what surrounds me, which is a very enthusiastic South African deep house audience, a nod to the broken beat era with a heavy dose of deepness.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I have been in the dance music business here in SA for over 20 years and I am a fan of other artists music firstly, from Fka Mash, Zaki Ibrahim to Okmalumkoolkat and Jullian Gomes and everyone in between. It all somehow comes out in my own productions in my own way.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

It's a showcase of my own productions and people that I love who have remixed my music, a lot of collabs and a proper showcase of what I represent as a DJ, label owner and producer.

Ben Gomori chops up a couple of cratedigging discoveries for the first Monologues Edits release, taking the juiciest bits from two ‘90s house jams and serving them up in one dancefloor-ready and fully-licensed package.

Listen / buy at smarturl.it/m45

Digging: TSHA, Massimiliano Pagliara, Todd Edwards, Melé, Mr.Ties, Shy One, Joshua James., Oliver Dollar, DJ Paulette, Lis Sarroca, Fred P - Black Jazz Consortium, Robert Owens, Severino (Horse Meat Disco), Harri (Sub Club), S3A, TILL VON SEIN, Auntie Flo, KYSIA...

Soulful Behaviour were MN2S resident Alan ‘Jinx’ Chamberlain and house-turned-DnB producer, Darren Hickey. Their 1996 release ‘Get To The Groove (Jazznotic Groove Mix)’ is a rowdy house cut whose fiery stabs and massive organs mean there’s no need for a bassline. Gomori hones in on the meatiest sections of the track and creates some big builds to amp the energy up.

Drum Club pushed a neat line in psychedelic-tinged house music in the first half of the ‘90s and were affiliated with the legendary Spiral Tribe free party crew. Their 1993 release ‘Sound System’ was remixed by the legendary Italian producer and DJ, Claudio Coccoluto, who sadly passed in 2021. His deep and trippy mix centred around a throbbing organ bass groove which Gomori has focused on in his edit which he created back in 2019 and had been readying for release before his passing. All proceeds from this edit will go to Claudio’s family.

The gorgeous debut EP from Devante Embers is out today at smarturl.it/m44

A new name for a producer who's been in the game for a minute, Devante Embers presents his debut EP for Monologues Records. A truly cohesive EP, its four tracks span a multitude of beautiful piano motifs, Bluesy samples, sweet synth refrains and dusty textures, with the title track looking set to becoming a major dancefloor staple in the coming months. You heard him here first...

Our new podcast has arrived from Swedish talent Lukas Lyrestam:

Swedish globetrotter Lukas Lyrestam has built up a steady catalogue of warm house jams infused with melodic '80s influences in recent years, through his own Clouded House imprint through to labels like Skint and Hardrock Striker's Skylax Records. With a tasty vocal in him too and a day job in sound design, he's quite the package and cooks up a lovely hour of his own productions for us that's constantly colourful and groove-laden.

“How would you describe your sound?”

OG house and classic 80s heaters with a touch of Scandi flair! Sultry vocals by yours truly.

"What and who inspires you and influences your sound?”

Literally everything in the electronic spectrum tends to seep into my subconscious and makes its way into the music I make. Off the top of my head some favourites (and bench-marks of quality) are:

Mood II Swing
Johnny Jewel
Joy Orbison
Prince
