𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗥𝗬 | "𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖 𝙛𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧?"

A simple salo-salo can make him forget a terrible day.
With all the work he toiled, the smile from his children served as a pay.
It is true then, that not all heroes wear capes,
Some of them are at home and in good shape.

Clock ticks, white hair grows, wrinkle shows, and sighs,
“Tatay, Tatang, Papa, Daddy”, do they just wither away and say goodbye?
But, those were the signs of their sacrifices;
Being away to provide a good life, even if it means going to places.

To repay, a warm embrace is all that it takes,
Say “thank you” or even give him a short break.
He once guided you back when you were younger,
Might as well bond, and give thanks to your fighter.

“How is it like to be a father?” A wandering child asks.
Surely, to be one comes with heavy tasks.
But, as they go on despite having voices of great pain,
Their hard work and true love remain.

𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟮 | 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙮

Every 12th of June, the emotions of Filipinos around the world echo with pride. It commemorates one of the most important days, symbolizing the valor, bravery, and love shown by our ancestors to attain the independence we've long aspired to achieve.

This year, let us together celebrate the 𝟭𝟮𝟲𝘁𝗵 anniversary of Independence Day. From the mountains to the shores inhabited by every Filipino, every corner of the country is full of color and joy; where the Barong Tagalog and Baro’t Saya are continuously worn; Tinikling is danced to the rhythm; and the national anthem "Lupang Hinirang" is sung with full hearts and heads held high.

However, beyond the festivities, this is also the day we remember the heroes who sacrificed their lives to uphold our independence. Rizal, Bonifacio, Mabini, Aguinaldo, Luna and all the unknown heroes whose names we might not know, but whose sacrifices are etched in our history and our hearts.

In modern times, our weapons are not just swords and guns, but also education, justice, and unity that will give us hope in the future of every generation. Despite the hurdles—pandemics, calamities, and political struggles—our Filipino spirit remains and will stay strong and fervent.

Today, let's unite in celebration, remembering that true freedom means sacrifice, humanity, and nurturing dreams for our nation's brighter future. Let's reignite our faith and love for our Motherland, waving our flags with pride and joy in our Filipino hearts.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | 𝙃𝘾𝘾 𝙤𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙉𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝘾𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙙𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙨

"I hope we emulate what they did previously and continue their legacy for the betterment not only of the school but also of the community," thus remarked Holy Cross College (HCC) President, Mr. Elmer H. Nucum to the attendees as he welcomed them to the Naming of Buildings Ceremony held today, June 8, at the SHS AVR/school grounds.

Through the ceremony, the school's buildings were blessed and named in honor of the six dedicatees who have greatly contributed to the success of HCC. The dedicatees are Msgr. Fernando Capati Lansangan, the founder of HCC; Atty. Alfredo Amarante Narciso, HCC's first president and executive director; Atty. Feliciano Gamboa Dizon Sr., who served as HCC's Chairman of the Board for an extensive period; Mrs. Jocelyn Pabalan Narciso Balatbat, who served as one of HCC's board of directors and championed culture and the arts; Mrs. Antonia Henson Dizon, HCC's first principal; and Archbishop Emeritus Paciano B. Aniceto, vice chairman of the Board of Directors (BOD).

The ceremony was attended by the Board of Directors, families of the dedicatees, faculty members, and students.

Before the program, a Thanksgiving mass was offered and presided over by Rev. Fr. Eric Oliage, OFM, Director of Aspirants at Our Lady of Angels Seminary.

As this day marks the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Fr. Eric reminded everyone to be like the heart of Mary. "Let us continue to deepen our faith like Mary. Sa bawat bagay na gagawin at pipiliin natin, sikapin natin na ito ay magdadala sa atin sa landas ng kabanalan. Piliing maging mabuti, maging banal, at maging malinis upang tayo ay maging kalugod-lugod sa ating Panginoon," he said.

During the program, the families of the dedicatees paid tribute as they expressed their words of gratitude.

To deliver the closing remarks, Engr. Gervacio Alfredo N. Balatbat, BOD Chairman, reminisced about his childhood days going around the campus and seeing the dedicatees when they were still alive. He also shared what his father had always told him—that the greatest asset of Sta. Ana is its people. "Napakaliit po na bayan, pero maraming professionals, and Holy Cross has been a part in contributing to this. The people we have recognized today—they are the pillars of our institution. Although a lot of them have passed, their memories live on, and so was the legacy left behind," Chairman Balatbat said.

After the program, the unveiling of the markers for the buildings was conducted with the relatives of the dedicatees.

Moreover, the following are the renamed buildings:

The Admin Building is now the Msgr. Fernando Capati Lansangan Building.

The Elementary Building is now the Atty. Alfredo Amarante Narciso Building.

The College Building is now the Atty. Feliciano Gamboa Dizon, Sr. Building.

The Learning Resource Center Building is now the Jocelyn Pabalan Narciso Balatbat Building.

The Junior High School Building is now the Antonia Henson Dizon Building.

The Senior High School Building is now the Archbishop Paciano Basilio Aniceto Building.

It may not be Christmas yet, but the season of graduation is indeed the most wonderful time of the year for us students.

It's that time of the year again when the flowering plants and trees blossom with their vibrant and colorful flowers, the crickets chirp under the shade of the trees in the bright shine of the sun, and the familiar soundtracks along with cheerful congratulations can be heard from schools far and wide.

Two years have passed, and we have learned different academic and life lessons, shared memories with our friends, and faced various challenges as well. Now, here you are, smiling and standing proudly with everyone, wearing your graduation caps and gowns while holding your awards and, of course, your very own senior high school diploma.

As you end your high school journey with triumph and progress, a new voyage awaits you. Your college life is about to begin, where you will have new adventures, new challenges, and new encounters.

Unlike professional news outlets, campus journalists are uniquely positioned to understand the pulse of the student body. They walk the same halls, attend the same classes, and experience the same successes and hardships as their peers. This intimate connection empowers them to shed light on issues that might otherwise be overlooked or suppressed.

As the school year comes to a close, the Crux Magna community extends its sincere gratitude to the school publication’s editorial board and staff for their dedication, commitment to truth, and relentless pursuit of excellence. While their names may not always be at the forefront, these individuals work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that Crucians receive accurate news throughout the academic year. Representing Holy Cross College-Sta. Ana, Angela Sevilla and Jiovanni Turla claimed the championship title in the Manyaman Festival Logo-making competition this Monday, May 6.

Guided by their teacher coaches, Grade 12 Assistant Principal Mr. Camilo D. Lacanlale and Mr. Richard Magat, the two delegates of the municipality of Sta. Ana from the Senior High School department managed to conquer 26 other competitors from different schools around Pampanga.

Anchored in the goal of constructing a new logo for the said festival, the selected student representatives worked with the assistance of their respective Local Government Unit (LGU), who chose them, filling the entire Benigno Aquino Hall, Capitol Compund in San Fernando City, where the event took place.

Despite the late notice, Sevilla and Turla's masterpiece was selected as the new face of the Manyaman Festival in Pampanga.

"Una palang hesitant na akong sumali since late na kami nasabihan, makakapagprepare pa ba kami? Kaya nung nakuha namin ang pinakaunang pwesto, hindi nag-sisink in sa'kin na kinaya pala naman pala namin. Sobrang saya at nakakaproud kase sino bang mag aakala na mananalo pa yung last minute [before the competition] nalang nag-conceptualize? Sobrang thankful kami sa lahat ng supporta at nagpush sa amin." Sevilla shared.

In line with their victory, the two winners received a cash prize from the Arts, Culture, and Tourism Office of Pampanga.

"𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆." - 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗲

The freedom of the press is a fundamental pillar of a healthy democracy. However, the Philippines has not always been a safe haven for journalists, as they have faced continuous suppression and impunity, even after the end of the dictatorship of the late Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.

Since the fall of the Marcos Sr. dictatorship in 1986, the Philippines has witnessed the tragic loss of at least 𝟭𝟵𝟵 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 in the country, all of whom were targeted due to their profession, as documented by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP).

The continuous suppression and impunity faced by journalists have threatened the very foundations of democracy. The high number of journalist deaths, frequently with little accountability for those who killed them, has fostered fear and self-censorship, limiting the public's access to information and ability to hold those in power accountable.

With this, the 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘅 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗮 joins journalists around the world in reaffirming and strengthening press freedom. We must continue to keep the fire of truth and critique burning, even in the face of tyranny and oppression, because only via a free and independent media can we foster a culture of transparency and moral integrity 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙮.

World Press Freedom Day serves as a timely reminder of the value of a free and independent press in promoting openness, accountability, and human rights. As we continue to face the challenge of press suppression globally, it is essential that we must stand in solidarity with journalists in the Philippines and around the world, honoring their courage and sacrifice in the quest of truth and justice.

By defending the freedom of the press, we can work towards a future where journalists can freely and safely fulfill their duty to inform the public, challenge stereotypes, and hold those in power accountable. Only then will we properly understand the media's critical role in fostering a culture of accountability, good morality and transparency– the very foundations of a thriving democracy.

𝗠𝗔𝗬 𝟭 | 𝙇𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧 𝘿𝙖𝙮

Today, we honor the heartbeat of our nation – the hardworking Filipinos. We pay tribute to the unwavering commitment and tireless efforts of the Filipino workforce.

These individuals, through their sweat and toil, have built the foundation of our economic progress. They are the unsung heroes who pour their hearts into their work, day in and day out, to provide for their families and contribute to the greater good of our society.

However, we cannot ignore the plight of our workers. Despite their invaluable contributions, many people still struggle to make ends meet, as minimum wages do not keep up with rising living costs. More than four million Filipino workers are denied a decent life due to low wages. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that our workers receive the fair and just compensation they deserve.

𝙋𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙔𝙊 𝙄𝘽𝘼𝘽𝘼, 𝙎𝘼𝙃𝙊𝘿 𝙄𝙏𝘼𝘼𝙎!

We must stand united in the fight for a living wage, one that allows our workers to afford the basic necessities and live with dignity. Our workers deserve better, and we must make their voices heard. Let us join hands and demand that our leaders prioritize the welfare and well-being of the Filipino workforce.

On this Labor Day, let us recognize our Filipino workers' resilience and determination. Let us make every effort to keep their work valued and their rights protected. They are true heroes of our country, and it is time to recognize their contributions and fight for the just rewards they have earned.

𝗢𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗡 | 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙃𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙏𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝘿𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧

Food is like a fuel for human body, it gives us the drive to do things productively. Thus, it is important to have a food that is safe and healthy for us to consume. However, food business owners seem to forget an important thing which is more needed than the taste and look of food—proper sanitation.

Whenever we eat something, sometimes we neglect the idea of ensuring that the food we eat is clean and healthy. As long as it has a perfect taste, cleanliness is nothing. But we must keep in mind that every food we eat has a great impact on our health. We can make sure that our food is safe for us to consume by preparing it ourselves. However, it is time-consuming, and we don't have much choice but to buy prepared meals for us to eat. And by doing that, we aren't pretty sure how they prepared the meal we eat.

The quality of the food decreases when it is prepared in a less appealing environment. Thus, it is really important that they have a better, cleaner, and healthier environment when preparing these meals that will be consumed by hundreds of people. In addition to that, foods can only be served if they were cooked on the same day they were prepared. This is to avoid serving spoiled foods to consumers. Also, they must ensure that the store premises are neat and free from any insects or pests that can contaminate the food, especially in school canteens, since the ones who might consume these foods are children, who have a weaker immune system than adults. These precautionary measures should be followed to avoid circumstances that can affect the health of people. Because one mistake can lead to countless possibilities of inconvenience.

Health is still our wealth, so we must always be careful with whatever we put into our system. These days, there are a lot of illnesses that occur because of food intake. We must take several actions to avoid having them. Remember, the root of every food we take is in the kitchen; it is in the hands of the one who prepares the food, and what we had in our hands was the trust for them to serve us a quality of food that can give us nutrition, not misfortune.
