For we're talking about Alice Guy-Blaché, the first woman film director! Alice's first film was released in 1896, and until 1906 she was the only female director in the world. During her career she helmed, produced, wrote and edited over 1,000 movies, in addition to set decorating many of them. Alice was a pioneer not just because she was the first female director, but also because she was one of the first to utilize close-ups, hand-tinted style and synchronized sounds in her films.
