Lodhi Dynasty (Mahmud Lodi The Last Hope of the Lodi Dynasty):

The Lodi dynasty was the fifth and final dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate, which ruled over most of northern India from 1451 to 1526. The Lodis were of Afghan origin and had established their power by overthrowing the Sayyid dynasty. The most prominent rulers of the Lodi dynasty were Bahlul Lodi (1451-1489) and Sikandar Lodi (1489-1517), who expanded their territory and patronized trade, culture, and learning. However, their successor, Ibrahim Lodi (1517-1526), was a tyrannical and unpopular ruler who alienated his nobles and faced several rebellions.

The downfall of the Lodi dynasty came with the invasion of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, who crossed the Indus River in 1525 with a small but well-equipped army. Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi in the first Battle of Panipat in 1526, which marked the end of the Delhi Sultanate and the beginning of the Mughal rule in India. Ibrahim Lodi was killed in the battle, leaving behind his younger brother, Mahmud Lodi, as the only surviving member of the royal family.

Mahmud Lodi was not willing to accept Babur’s supremacy and claimed to be the rightful heir of the Delhi Sultanate. He was declared as such by some Afghan and Rajput chiefs who opposed Babur’s presence in India. Mahmud Lodi gathered a large army and challenged Babur in the Battle of Khanwa in 1527, near Agra. The battle was fierce and lasted for several hours, but Babur emerged victorious with his superior tactics and artillery. Mahmud Lodi escaped from the battlefield and took refuge in Gujarat, where he received support from some local rulers.

Mahmud Lodi did not give up his ambition to regain Delhi and continued to raise troops and funds for his cause. He also sought alliance with other regional powers, such as Bengal and Malwa, who were wary of Babur’s expansion. In 1529, Mahmud Lodi invaded Bihar with a huge army, hoping to capture it from Babur’s governor. However, Babur was alerted by
