Nothing major this week, just a possible path towards increasing our capacities for joy and love.
Last week I got to sit down with Sommerville Bevilaqua, a therapist and adventurer who lives in Asheville NC. She had just finished up her Somatic Experiencing training, and because I love listening to therapists talk inside baseball, I was stoked to sit down and hear Sommerville's reflections on what SE is to her and how it relates both to her own life and to all of our abilities to engage with everything life has to offer.
One conclusion I reached is that (my understanding of) what SE is - noticing specifics of what's happening in the body - is about as unsubscribed as you can get, given that most of us hold a non-stop distraction device in our hand for much of the day.
Why should we feel, especially if it's uncomfortable? Well...maybe to increase our capacity for joy and love.
I choose the guests for this show so every week I've been mesmerized by what they have to say, and in the editing process I hear our conversation multiple times. It doesn't get old, these people are truly amazing. Then I listen to the final product as I would any other pod - in the car, around the house, whatever. Last night I was driving and I got clear that Sommerville gets at many things of value to anyone who's interested in living a fully-experienced life. Let me know what you think.
