2018 INTENTIONS // Worlds collide! On New Year's Eve (photo of cofounders and me) organized a New Year's Eve pop-up and we recorded the staff's and our guests' intentions for this year. Two weeks into it seems like a good time to revisit, course-correct, recommit, or simply commit - just because it's a collective reflection at the end of the year doesn't mean we can't make a choice to begin a process of change anytime. Listening again over the past few days I was inspired by the overall thoughtfulness and commitment to becoming 'better' that was present that night, and grateful for a willingness to share and inspire. Cheers and happy new year.

Happy New Year! No new episode this week, the podcast had to take a backseat to a Blank Plate Boulder New Year's Eve pop-up where our most recent podcast guest - THIS guy, Chef Matt Collier of - cooked six coursesfrom around the world for 24 people. On the pod we talk about talent drain in restaurants and making cooking more accessible to everyone, the link to his episode is still in our profile!

Today’s conversation is with Chef Matt Collier of Seeds Library Cafe. If you don’t like food, cooking, or restaurants, this conversation is very BORING and you shouldn’t waste your time. Because that’s all we talk about!

EPISODE 008 "Understand that there is no perfection in the world."Chef Matt Collier of Seeds Library Café and I have been collaborating on pop-up cafés around Boulder, including one coming up on New Year's Eve. He's put in his 10,000 hours and in addition to having wide ranging experiences and .....

Nothing major this week, just a possible path towards increasing our capacities for joy and love.

Last week I got to sit down with Sommerville Bevilaqua, a therapist and adventurer who lives in Asheville NC. She had just finished up her Somatic Experiencing training, and because I love listening to therapists talk inside baseball, I was stoked to sit down and hear Sommerville's reflections on what SE is to her and how it relates both to her own life and to all of our abilities to engage with everything life has to offer.

One conclusion I reached is that (my understanding of) what SE is - noticing specifics of what's happening in the body - is about as unsubscribed as you can get, given that most of us hold a non-stop distraction device in our hand for much of the day.

Why should we feel, especially if it's uncomfortable? Well...maybe to increase our capacity for joy and love.

I choose the guests for this show so every week I've been mesmerized by what they have to say, and in the editing process I hear our conversation multiple times. It doesn't get old, these people are truly amazing. Then I listen to the final product as I would any other pod - in the car, around the house, whatever. Last night I was driving and I got clear that Sommerville gets at many things of value to anyone who's interested in living a fully-experienced life. Let me know what you think.

EPISODE 007 “Who is this person sitting across from me? That’s curiosity, there is no judgement in that question." I sat down with Sommerville Bevilaqua fresh out of somatic experiencing training and we talk about what that was like, the art and craft of interviewing via Krista Tippett, an...

Do you ever wonder where restaurants really get their food? Good intentions are easily coopted (at best) or falsely represented (at worst). A couple weeks ago I sat down with my friend Sara to record an Unsubscribe Show episode and found out about what she's up to with the Good Food 100 Restaurants List, and though there's so much more, it can be summed up in two words: menu transparency. If she keeps doing the work she's doing, before long restaurants everywhere will be celebrated for the economic choices they make. I was rapt the whole time, a little embarrassed that I didn't already know about her vocation, and thankful to have learned so much about it. Thank you Sara!

Lucy Ross is a seeker. While she and I bonded in Portland over fancy shaved ice and I got hints of her unsubscribed life including self-employment right out of college, mentorship, dealing with depression, and the spiritual path. Jenna Bee and I got to explore these topics with her at greater lengths a few months later for this weeks episode! We kept it to under an hour but it easily could have gone two, or three (and it sort of did, we kept talking over dinner afterwards). I learned so much from her – she (and the conversation) is awesome and if you're a seeker we know there's something in here for you. DROPPED!!! Episode 004 of Unsubscribe, featuring this guy, our first guest, Rob Wyatt. Most if not all of what Jenna and L.R. learned from Rob can be summarized by one thing he said: "All the best things are on the other side of fear."

This includes how driving 200mph can be safer than 80mph, the mindset behind attending 500+ yoga classes in less than two years, how raising horses is good for children, and some history of the Xbox, the origination of which included Rob as a key team member.

Talking with Rob was definitely a highlight of this podcasting endeavor. Click on the Learn More button to download the episode to your favorite podcasting app.

We recorded our first interview today, with someone who isn't us! It was so much fun! We talked about video games, horses, dinosaurs, skydiving and yoga-- among other things.
Huge thanks to Rob for being such a phenomenal guinea pig. It made us all really excited to keep working. On the podcast and in general. Inspiration through community is pretty powerful.

L.R. has been hard at work this weekend, getting the technical nuts and bolts in place online. Sooo, our landing page is set, and you can sign up for our newsletter through the link in our bio. We'll let you know when the first episode is complete.

The best part about this process for me (Jenna) was L.R.'s reflection that this l would all have taken him *much* longer just a couple of years ago. In the last 2-3 years, he has created a number of websites and done lots of research about effective online business management. He listens to podcasts, reads blogs, and more importantly, he gets "in the game," so to speak. He has been experimenting and learning, and now we all benefit. The evolution of the internet has given us all the opportunity to become our own media companies. Is there a message you've been waiting to get out there? We hope that our behind-the-scenes updates might inspire you to take some action, however imperfect.
Though with in charge, ours will likely be mostly perfect ;)
