The last touches are being made to the July (Fourth) Edition of the Wicked City Chronicle. In the meantime, spend some time with an article from our June edition that has certainly sparked some debate as well as a handmade poster with a big "NO" written over it posted at the Post Office.
Debate and opposing opinions are always a good thing.
BTW, this is NOT a $$$ making enterprise for any of us. We are hoping one day to simply cover our printing costs, but we will NEVER charge for this publication!
So glad we are giving folks something to talk about because there is never enough gossip in Jerome.
Stay Tuned as we will give you even more to think and talk about!

Water is our Future. Preserve & Protect this Valuable Natural Resource!

In Arizona 94 percent of streams are intermittent or ephemeral. Because these streams are evaporating for longer periods of time, it’s especially important to preserve what we have and keep sediment and chemicals from industries such as mining out of surface water. These above ground rivers and st...

Alert from Town of Jerome: BEAR SIGHTING IN JEROME

Date: Jun 04, 2019
The Jerome Police Department has received a report of a small bear seen near School Street. Our officers investigated and did not locate the animal, and AZ Game and Fish has been notified.

Here is important information from AZ Game and Fish:

Never approach a wild bear. Black bears usually avoid people, but if they start to associate people with food they may become aggressive.

If a bear is in your yard or neighborhood, immediately contact the Game and Fish office at (623) 236-7201 (line is available 24/7). Depending on what the bear is doing, department personnel may respond if it remains in the area. Deter the bear by making loud noises, such as yelling, whistling or banging pans.

If you see a bear in the distance, alter your route to avoid it.

On the rare occasion that a bear approaches you, discourage it by:

Making yourself as large and imposing as possible. Stand upright and wave your arms, jacket or other items, and make loud noises.

Do not run and never play dead.

Give the bear a chance to leave the area.

If the bear does not leave, stay calm, continue facing it, and slowly back away.

Know the law. Bears are classified as big game animals in Arizona and are protected by state law. They can only be captured or killed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, legally permitted hunters, or in defense of yourself or another person.

An extended 3 day Memorial Day Weekend for some. While your are visiting family or friends, enjoying a BBQ or just lounging, let us not forget those brave men and women who defended our freedom and ultimately paid for their sacrifice with their lives so that we may be free.

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day started in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971 to honor those who served and died in wars.

We have just posted the beginning of the article that illustrates the architectural planning that went into both the towns of Clarkdale, (re-planning) and Jerome. If you're a History or Mining buff, or perhaps an Architect, you may find this read from the 1920's very informative!

San Francisco, December, 1920 No. 3 Two Town Planning Projects in Arizona, Herding & Boyd, Architects Time was when City Planning meant an adventure in the Grand Style. It was an affair of colonnades, vistas, monuments. For the cultured but untechnical onlooker the...
