We put a new “spin” on Academic Advising and Career Advising, giving students information in a fun and interesting way. A special guest will be featured on each episode: from PSU administrators and faculty, members of the Portland community who are experts in their career fields, as well as fantastic PSU students who would like to share their trials and tribulations navigating the college maze. N

ot only will you hear the superb voices of our guests, but also the witty (and sometimes unwitty) banter bounced back and forth between Academic Advisers Great Scott and Thrillhouse, plus DJ Jamo and super-student Nico mixing things up.

On March 31, KPSU launches an Indiegogo fund efforts to return to the FM Dial. View the campaign and donate HERE
In November, KPSU submitted an application for an LPFM signal to the FCC. LPFM stands for Low Powered FM. If our application is granted, this LPFM signal would reinvent the station as we know it. Our signal would cover the entirety of the downtown area, stretching up in to the west hills, and reaching north to St. John’s and east to 82nd ave. As a cultural backbone for this city, we need the support of the community to further activate our efforts and generate greater visibility through radio broadcasting.

It’s time to amp KPSU!

Since 2010, Portland has been without a college radio station on the dial. KPSU has been working tirelessly to change that. KPSU shines a spotlight on Portland's hidden subcultures: from underground MC's and DJ's, to the best local bands and musicians, to the social and artistic voices of student communities that are often overlooked - KPSU is a vibrant community central to the cultural identity of Portland.

KPSU has nearly 70 volunteer DJs, the majority of whom are students. Our DJs are the heart and soul of the station. Because KPSU is committed to being free format, our eclectic mix of music and talk is a direct representation of our DJ’s on-air and not influenced by advertising or a station policy that determines what gets on the air. Unlike other college radio stations even, KPSU doesn't require DJ's to play a certain amount of tracks from specific racks of CD's. At KPSU, our student and community DJ’s are in full control of our content. Unfortunately, we haven’t had the resources to engage the community at large, until now.

>From March 31st to April 20th, KPSU is hosting a series of events and programming to raise funds, friends, and awareness towards our efforts.

During these weeks, we encourage you to show your support for KPSU. Through attending one of our events or making a donation to our indiegogo page, all support generates revenue to amp KPSU. All proceeds will help allow KPSU to fund ambitious projects such as develop a KPSU smartphone app, purchase new equipment necessary for the FM airwaves, host greater events, and provide more opportunity for KPSU to give back to PSU and the greater Portland area.

Perks for donating to KPSU's indiegogo include:

KPSU T-Shirts
KPSU Stickers
KPSU live in-studio compilation CD
Web Banner's on kpsu.org
A radio show on kpsu for 3 months

We cannot turn any of these ideas into realities without your support. To learn about all of our upcoming events, make a donation, or just see more information, please visit kpsu.org

Portland State Enrollment Management & Student Affairs: Women's Resource Center | Welcome to the...

Check out the Women's Resource Centers Call to Men!
https://s3.amazonaws.com/archive-complete/1380924001.mp3

Last friday the Director of the Women's Resource Center (Jessica Amo "Jamo") came to our show and shared information about the Women's Resource Center, and their BIG BANG event of the Year in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Jessica and the WRC have been fiercely organizing to shine light on men's role in Domestic Violence. They have invited the Internationally recognized Tony Porter to our campus for two Workshops and a Keynote event THIS WEDNESDAY October 9th (A mandatory event for all student athletes -over 200 of them- since most people look to them as an idol of "Masculinity").
Tony Porter's organization "A Call to Men" trains institutions like the NBA, NFL, the Military and other organizations with a traditional view of masculinity - which are intense and sometimes unsafe places to question the socialization of men. Tony asks the hard questions like "How does gender socialization relate to the normalization of violence" and he has a gift at articulating what masculinity looks like, how can it look differently, and how to create safer communities.

Here is their website if your interested in the WRC or the Tony Porter Event. http://www.pdx.edu/wrc/welcome-to-the-womens-resource-center
Tickets are free for PSU students, or on sale for $10 at the PSU Box Office

The Women's Resource Center at Portland State University needs your support to maintain essential services and resources on campus, so we can better support our mission and the greater community at Portland State. Please consider donating and making a real difference in the lives of women at PSU.

Tony Porter: A call to men | Video on TED.com

Its illegal to "Call to Action" in KPSU, but thats the mission of the Tony Porter Event on oct 9. For Domestic Violence Awareness month the Women's Resource Center (WRC) is hosting Porter to provide a call to action to Portland Students and Community.

The reason i'm sharing this is because the organizer of this event will be on our show THIS FRIDAY at 3pm!! So if your on campus, in smith memorial, than keep your ears open to hear more about this event, domestice violence awareness, and the WRC and their amazing work.
I will post the podcast of the show here, on friday by 5pm.

Heres his TED talk: http://www.ted.com/talks/tony_porter_a_call_to_men.html

At TEDWomen, Tony Porter makes a call to men everywhere: Don't "act like a man." Telling powerful stories from his own life, he shows how this mentality, drummed into so many men and boys, can lead men to disrespect, mistreat and abuse women and each other. His solution: Break free of the "man box."
