🌙 Delightful. It's bedtime. You fluff up your soft pillow a little more, dive in, and slip into a blissful dream. Or were your eyes closed all along, oblivious to reality?

🪶 As many know, down and feathers are often used to fill jackets, pillows, and duvets. Occasionally, a feather escapes, and you may not think much of it. Yet, these feathers once belonged to a living being, for whom they were crucial. Down is the softest type of feathers, primarily found on the chests of geese and ducks, making them particularly valuable for these dreadful industries.

While much down and feathers are removed during slaughter, it also occurs at various times while they are still alive. This allows for more frequent use, especially when they are young and have more down.

Plucking inflicts significant pain and suffering on geese and ducks. Typically lifted by their necks or delicate wings, physically restrained or tied, their feathers are mercilessly pulled from their skin. Often, the struggling birds are plucked so hard that their skin tears open. Hasty workers then sew up the wounds with needle and thread, without anesthesia (you can see it happen in the video). Plucking can begin when the animals are just 10 weeks old and is repeated every six weeks until they are slaughtered for meat, far before their natural lifespan. 💔

Buying down can also support the cruelty of the foie gras industry. Producers often boost profits by selling the feathers of force-fed ducks and geese. These birds endure tubes forced down their throats and their stomachs filled with so much corn mush that their livers swell to about 10 times their normal size, enabling foie gras production.

❌ Check the comments to see how these beautiful animals endure this horror. If you want to share this video too, go to my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/C0ly5qpK3eT/?igshid=NTYzOWQzNmJjMA== () to share it from there.

Stop using down and feathers in your clothing, furniture, and bedding. Countless alternatives exist that cause no harm. Go vegan, so you can finally sleep really peacefully. ☁️

👩‍🍼 From the moment a baby is born, a mother is also born. A switch goes on, and her whole life suddenly revolves around keeping someone else alive. A mother who watches, cares, observes and... intervenes. But exactly that last crucial thing is not possible for many. 💔

This switch also turns on for every piglet mother in factory farms. Immediately they feel a responsibility, a power they have not felt before. And immediately the fear that every mother has linked to that power immediately becomes reality for these mothers. They cannot help, support or save their babies. Large human hands beat them to death against the wall, burn off their tail and clip their teeth, take them away, and the mothers cannot do anything if they crush a baby themselves. The iron cage that fits exactly around their body means that they cannot stand, walk or protect anyone else at all.

Giving birth and suckling is their only purpose for the farmer. They don't care that there is a living being hidden behind it, full of character. Whatever character this pig has, it’s being broken. It shouldn't be there. And so many mothers die, before their death. They cannot care, cannot protect, cannot save. Traumatized, litter after litter, they are only allowed to look, with eyes that see everything. 💧

You're a monster if you participate in this for bacon, ham and other psycho products. Go vegan. 🌱

🔖 Labels stuck on animals by our society have nothing to do with the truth. Speciesism (in short, racism in animal species) plays a huge role in this.

Humans have a herd mentality. Belonging to a group, adopting behaviors and opinions is therefore of vital importance to us from an evolutionary perspective. That is why we are incredibly susceptible to what our society whispers to us, often from childhood. That is part of us, and is therefore very understandable. Yet we must realize that what is normal for us at this time and what our group says is normal, is not immediately so. Certainly not when it comes to ranking animals.

Tuna? Belongs in sushi. A horse? Someone should be sitting on it. A pig? Bacon tho! A sea turtle? Save the sea turtle! A cat? So sweet, hug her! A cow? Delicious milk. A rat? Gross. An ant? Crush it!

These are all stereotypical expressions that allow prejudices to live on from generation to generation, and sometimes completely change in history, while this is completely disconnected from reality. Each animal has its own full life, with its own character and its own task on mother earth. They were not born to be put into our imaginary boxes, or real boxes. As soon as people realize this, we will treat animals and each other very differently. Speciesism must be addressed if we want to solve all the other ethical problems in the world.

Learn to look at each animal neutrally, and feel inside what you feel about them, instead of just listening to what everyone else says and creeps in you too. Fortunately, anti-racism within humanity is a major topic, now dare to look one step further and extend this to other animal species. It’s not that hard, if you have a heart. Use it and go vegan. 🌱

✂️ Calf Grafting: ever heard of it?

As you know: milk is money and money = everything for a farmer. Also for a small one. So what if the farmer still doesn’t get milk from the mother after an expensive insemination and after 9 months of waiting? Exactly, then he will do very nasty things. An example of this is calf grafting. Placing the skin of the dead calf over another one to make the mother believe that it is her own child to stimulate milk production or keeping the calf alive for meat or milk too. Farming is literally about corpses. 🩸

Calf grafting mainly occurs on smaller farms, because keeping calves apart from their mothers and feed them with own hands costs relatively more money than in large dairy farms. They do it when the baby is stillborn, and therefore milk production cannot be induced (a reason for bigger farms sometimes too). But also if the mother has died and the calf has to stay to become a mother for dairy herself, or has to stay for a few months until he got killed.

Calf grafting can be very dangerous for the new calf, because acceptance is not always successful, and the mother can therefore kick the baby. If this happens, farmers use hobbles on the mother's hind legs to prevent his. Sometimes she cannot move for a whole week, and finally admits that the (especially hungry) calf can drink from her.

If there is no skin from her dead baby, farmers have other stinky ways in their bag of tricks. Such as rubbing the calf with salt, molasses or syrup, so that the mother will lick it clean and thus accept him or her faster. Sometimes they even smear the calf with the wet placenta of the dead baby.

We vegans often get sad about calves being taken away from their mothers (which is unfortunately still 99% of the majority), but it also happens that mothers and calves are forced to bond. Even if they don't want to. The reason for the farmers is not that they form a bond, but more milk and flesh = more money.

❌ See a video in the comments of my original post of this horrible method.

Don't be fooled by buying milk and meat from small 'friendly free range' farms. It's still a prison with normalized abuse and slavery. These calves aren’t hers, but you are not her child AT ALL. Go vegan. 🌱

🦃 Did you know that 46 million turkeys are slaughtered in the USA for just ONE day of Thanksgiving?

46 million babies, between 3 - 5 months old, who have only known the dirty, dark life in small cages. 46 million babies, who could have lived to be 10 years old. 46 million, for a festive day where people feel like they are doing something good for someone else. But in fact their bad karma is only building up through this hypocritical day of joy.

I want to tell you all about the wonderful character of these amazing animals, but I especially want you to look at them, this Thanksgiving. The documentary ''My Life As A Turkey'' is about a man who lives with wild turkeys, learns their language and how to understand them. Impressed by their instincts and intelligence, he builds his own bond with each of them. A wonderful way to really learn more about turkeys, especially today. 🎬

A whole life for fifteen minutes of enjoyable chewing, you find yourself that special? 🍴

From birth to gruesome death, human hands have meant fear and pain to him. Hands that burned his baby tail and front teeth without anesthesia, hands that re-inseminated his mother, hands that beat his siblings to death against the wall, hands with electric shock batons because he went too slow out of the truck to the slaughterhouse and finally... your hands. Your 'innocent' hands, which just want to organize a nice BBQ. Your hands, which grab his meat still full of stress hormones in the supermarket, hand over money and stick a fork and knife into it. To ultimately disappear into your mouth, which always speaks about justice.

It's bizarre that studies were needed, because every healthy person should be able to see it this way: pigs feel fear in exactly the same way we do. Exactly the same substances are released, causing them to shake, foam, freeze, flee and fight. They may be different from us in ways, but it should be about these similarities. They know perfectly well what is coming, and they also realize perfectly well what is being done to their loved ones around them. 🩸

Look at your own hands and wonder how much figurative blood is actually on them. How many times you handed over money, how many times you brought the fork to your mouth. Is this who you want to be? Go vegan. 🌱

“..but mom didn’t come out. We jumped on her tail and tried to play with it, like we always did. But she didn't sway along. Her scent was different, mixed with that of other foxes, and another strong unknown smell. We sneezed, fell off and knew: mommy isn't coming back.” 💔

It won't happen anytime soon; two fox cubs looking for their mother, who has been electrocuted to death and turned into a horrible fashion product. In the real world, these little ones are locked up as well, and end up just like their mother.

Between December and February, female foxes are artificially fertilized, or placed in a small cage with a male. Once they are pregnant, fox cubs are allowed to stay with their mother for about 8 weeks after birth, and then getting locked in cages with one or two others. Because they have nowhere to go, they are locked in their own f***s, maggots and dead others. They suffer immensely psychologically, so they often run in circles compulsively, refuse to eat and mutilate themselves and each other. In November, after 7 months, they are electrocuted with an iron rod through the mouth or a**s. This often does not go well, because they panic very much. As a result, many foxes are skinned alive after this disgusting attempt.

Fortunately, fur is increasingly avoided by many people, but it is still widely sold in spurts (especially when a curtain brand or type of clothing is temporary popular), and so the end is not in sight yet. Although this industry is shrinking in Europe and America, it is growing in China. Much of that fur is imported to other parts of the world. This has to stop!

👁️ Yeah, show them. Just let them look away. Scare them. This is what they do to you and millions of other cows and bulls every day through the use of dairy, meat and leather. 🥛🥩👞

They laugh it off, start talking about sensitive vegetables or say that they can't stand painful videos. They claim they want to stop wars and genocide, peace for everyone, but secretly they want to continue to dominate and not give up their habits. As long as they want to remain responsible, there will never be peace in their own human world. Because as long as they teach their children that they are worth more than others, regardless of culture, color, race or species, it never stops.

Stop the use of dairy, meat and leather immediately and show that you don't wish this suffering on anyone. Go vegan. 🌱

👵🏽 You've been collecting grains of sand for years. One contains a terrible fact, another a horrible memory that never leaves your mind. You live in a world where fear, suffering and murder for animals are stored as ‘normal’, where you and everyone around you have skillfully learned not to compare one suffering with another and carefully hide it away. Speciesism has been instilled in you all from a young age. For years you collected the grains from a distance, secretly cherishing the knowledge you had, but did not dare to come closer. You look down at the growing pile of sand that seems to be calling. Inside you feel your heart humming in harmony. One last grain falls. What once seemed scary and difficult, gives way to enormous power. And then you jump. ⌛️

It's never too late for change. Build castles with your sand for everyone who doesn't have enough yet, doesn't dare to jump in their pile, or has just entered this speciesistic world. Whether you are 23, 54 or 86 years old. It's not too late. Go vegan. 🌱

🐥 You were perfect. “Ten fingers, ten toes,” new human parents would proudly say. And although you were so perfect and tiny, with your downy feathers so soft and your bravely beating heart, you were not allowed to live longer than a day. Eggs, that's what people want. And you pay the unforgivable price. 💔

———
You tapped, twisted and fought. “Would mom be looking at me yet?” You heard the dull sound of cheeping that you had grown accustomed to. Finally there was the light, and the shell broke open. No daylight, but a bright glow, and then the deafening sound of hundreds of other chicks around you. Before you were properly dried, a huge hand grabbed you and pulled your newborn wing up. After this you were not thrown into the blue, but into the red box. Hundreds of others tumbled over you, and you felt the wing break on which the monster had just seen that you were a male. Squealing in pain, you were emptied into an even larger box along with everyone else. Until you ended up on a conveyor belt. It seemed like the sounds of all your brothers at the end of the tape seemed quieter, and the sound of a loud machine dominated. You smelled a strange smell, and closed your eyes to suppress the pain. When you opened them again, you fell. In the world you were born into, a sadistic monster rules. You were perfect.
———

Every day, around 2 million chicks of not even a day old are put through the shredder worldwide. This is because their entire birth is all about becoming a new laying hen. From the moment their shell breaks open and it is determined by feather sexing that they are males, they are no longer worth anything. They will never be able to lay eggs, and they will remain too small for meat production. So they choose without any feeling to get rid of you.

Shredded and forgotten. But not by us. We will continue to fight for you. Three years, three centuries, forever, if necessary. Stop consuming eggs in every way and go vegan. 🌱

🦘🇦🇺 Their national pride. That's what they call you kangaroos, who live in close-bonded families.

Yet all shooting license holders and most of all private landholders (who own 55% of all Australian land) are totally free to kill you. They are even paid by the government per kilo of you. That’s why you are beheaded on the spot, your joeys are torn from your pouches and beaten to death against a truck, under a shoe, or left to starve. Bullets for your babies are a waste. That your family is torn apart and that you mourn and suffer, is not important. 💔

There are too many of you, they claim. Despite unclear monitoring, they have been saying for years that there are 40 million of you. But despite the many killings (between 1.5 - 6 million per year, which in reality would be around 10 million, because of excluding young joeys, injured abandoned ones, illegal and non-commercial hunting) they never change this first number. Strange, because you can only give birth to one baby per year and care for them even longer.

You are a ‘threat’ to the grass and water of 160 million foreign sheep and cows, who are only a source of money for humans too. Yet you only come onto 4% of their grazing land, and not because you choose to, but because there are actually far fewer of you than they say.

What a coincidence that your flesh and skin is sold to 70 (mostly European) countries and brands (e.g. Adidas) and that the Australian government earns 200 million Australian dollars from it every year! A top export product. So, this 'overpopulation' suits them perfectly. And that is exactly why they keep saying that eradication is necessary.

These beautiful animals no longer have a safe place in their own country, where they have been a big part of a perfectly regulated ecosystem for millions of years. Six species have become extinct since European settlement, and 17 species are critically endangered. Kangaroo hunting is the largest commercial slaughter of land-dwelling wild mammals.

🎃 Halloween is a festive day that conveys various messages, but with the special focus on the emotion 'fear'.

Fear of murder, torture and scare effects, wrapped in a festive jacket. Research has shown that feeling fear with the awareness that nothing bad is happening gives us a kick, because of all the chemicals that rushes through our bodies. That's why we watch scary movies, jump on roller coasters and, once a year with Halloween, scare others and immerse ourselves in fear. But few people realize that this emotion for trillions of animals is anything but exciting. People without masks are the real monsters, in this world that is only hell for them.

🔪 Around 200 million land animals, and 820 million aquatic animals are killed by humans worldwide EVERY day.

With knives, guns, gas, in boiling water, by decapitation, hanging, fi****ms or to deprive them of oxygen. Animals that have been locked up since they’re born, and animals that have been trying to avoid humans their whole life. Animals in captivity already know what humans are capable of, through r**e (insemination), mutilation without anesthesia, locking them in cages, isolating them or crushing them against other animals, but also physically and mentally forcing them to entertain people and other horrible ways. The killing almost always happens in the presence of others of the same species, of which they sometimes are very attached to, and they see it happen before it is their turn. There is no day without fear, because humans are everywhere.

This Halloween, try to REALLY imagine how you would experience your last moments as a random animal killed by a human, and check with yourself if you are really as empathetic as you thought you were. 👹 Go vegan! 🌱

''Mommy, are you awake? Get up! A human is coming closer mom!''

Today you promised me that I would meet the herd tomorrow. From the moment I was born, we isolated ourselves for two weeks. I often hid in the tall grass so that you could spend much of the day looking for food. Before that, you licked me clean so that my scent remained neutral. Today would be the last day with the two of us. Every evening, when you lay close to me again, you told me about the other fawns in the group, which I would soon play with all day. I heard the excitement in your words, you missed the others too. This morning you went out again and I promised to rest well for the long journey tomorrow, which would lead us to the herd. Until I heard a hard bang and went looking for you, even though I was very scared. Now I have found you. There's a strange thing leaning against you. Why aren't you responding? I press myself into your fur, until I suddenly see our greatest enemy 3 meters away: the human. FLASH! Trophy number 67 is a fact. 📸

While the hunter brags by the fire home at night, this fawn will be alone in the dead of night and will not survive. Her mother was her world. But they don’t care. Many hunters try to pass their unscrupulous hobby under 'overpopulation care', but this is easy to undermine. Predators, famine and disease kill mainly the sickest and weakest individuals. Hunters, on the other hand, pursue the larger, stronger animals or shoot indiscriminately, and this weakens the remaining population. In addition, a British study found that 11% of deer died only after being shot two or more times, and some suffered for more than 15 minutes before dying. Most hunting takes place on private land, where laws protecting animals are often ignored or difficult to enforce. Hunting is a worldwide hobby, but the USA takes this bloody cake. 13.4 million Americans are responsible for millions of direct or indirect hunting deaths and the destruction of families, packs and herds. 💔

It’s the time of the year again. Don't let these ruthless creatures called hunters have their way anymore and go vegan. 🌱🦌

🌊 Did you know that live-boiled Canadian lobsters (which are the most commonly eaten worldwide, including Europe) can live up to 150 years and even older?

🌊 That they are always caught in the wild before a months-long ordeal begins?

🌊 That most lobsters are caught when they are between 4 and 12 months old, because younger ones live closer to the coast? But many have already known freedom for 10, 30 or 70 years, and are therefore much older.

🌊 That it takes up to 30 seconds for the hot water to pe*****te the shell, and therefore it takes a very long time for a lobster to die?

🌊 And that females carry their eggs in their bellies for a year before the larvae hatch? So many babies are also cooked alive.

What do you see when you look into these eyes? Fear, disbelief, pain. But look deeper. This lobster has known freedom. Hiding away from danger and searching for all the secrets of the ocean, which he planned to learn over the next 100 years. Yet he was unable to escape the most sadistic predator. In the weeks/months before his terrible death, he was transported to various places. In small individual tanks without water, which prevented him from breathing (he can last 36 hours, and this limit is often tested), to tanks full of other lobsters. He always avoided them, but now they lie under and on top of him, with claws all taped up. Barnacles grow on these claws and paralyze them. Eventually he end up in a watertank in supermarket, traumatized and numb with fear, where humans can personally point him out.

The pan of boiling water is ready. Because his flesh only lasts a few hours, people find this barbaric method fine. After all, it's about their needs, right? In his head he tries to climb, but his claws are numb. With his one-year-old eyes, which had wanted to explore for another 100 years, he begs. But a soulless person is unattainable.

🤱Every mother sometimes feels guilty towards her children. But what if you are forced to keep your children dirty and ill, and even accidentally kill them? What would that do to the guilt of perhaps a very good mother? This is the daily reality of a pig breeding farm. 💔🐷

“My children. My dear sweet children. In my 9 years of life, I have already given birth to 240 (!) of them, since I was only 6 months old. That means I was pregnant for 6.4 years. Two hundred of them will already no longer be alive. Each time I tried again. Educate them, protect them, keep them clean. But it's impossible, I'm stuck. The sweet baby scent is overshadowed by the strong ammonia smell of f***s from myself, my children and everyone else around us. But also the smell of blood, infections, smoked flesh (from burning off my children's tails) and death hangs around us. I especially try to ignore that last smell. About 1/4 of each litter does not survive with me. Because they don't grow hard enough and are therefore beaten to death against the wall, because they get sick, succumb to injuries or... because of me. When I first felt two children underneath me as I lay down, my world went black. After this it happened more often. It is my fault. That's what it feels like. I no longer have control over my muscles, which are almost non-existent. It’s impossible to protect and raise you. My sweet, sweet children. How I wish you the world. Clean, light and nice. Please tell me you're ok if I can't see you.”

- this story is based on Sam’s, before she was freed after 9 years in her last pregnancy, and now living a wonderful life at Melief - animal sanctuary with her last litter. 🐽 A documentary of her is in the making, by House of Animals.

🐓“Cage-free”, can it sound any better?

As soon as people see this misleading word on an egg carton, they suddenly buy eggs without feeling any guilt. Because, that happy free chicken pops up in their minds.

💃🏽🕺🏼Imagine for a moment that you are at a big concert. Pushed up among the people, you are having a good time. The music, the drinks and the knowledge that you will soon be able to go home from all this hustle and bustle make this a great evening. But just imagine that this is your life. You can't get out of this crowd, this crowd IS your home. These people around you are the bars of the cage from which you can never escape. Fights, deaths, and f***s, all around you. The music gives way to the hum of people talking and shouting. The light is almost always on, the temperature never drops: sleeping is hard this way. You cannot withdraw if you have a stomach ache or can no longer handle the pressure. This is your life, until the slaughterhouse receives you.

The fact that chickens are no longer in cages, but are instead crowded together by the thousands in a huge hall (in fact also a cage), does not make living conditions better at all. For example, most cage-free chickens are on the ground, which makes them more susceptible to disease, and they fight more often. As a result, bone loss, inflammation and cannibalism are much more common in these chickens. All chickens bred to lay eggs experience pain every day. Laying a huge egg their body wasn’t made for is therefore always (especially in the beginning) a painful experience, from which they like to withdraw. A cage-free chicken cannot do this. In addition, in most farms the lights are on for more than 18 hours a day, and it is always very warm. As a result, chickens do not notice the difference between day, night, summer and winter and they lay more eggs. Mentally this has a huge impact on a chicken, so there is never peace around them. “Free-range” chickens also have many similarities, although they can go outside at daytime.

Soon I will share more about the cruelty behind the egg industry. Stop using eggs in every product and go vegan. 🌱
