🐙 PETITION | A company in Spain has a plan to torture a million octopuses per year – by raising them in crowded tanks and then killing them by plunging them in ice water, which causes a slow, agonizing death.

The company - a seafood giant called Nueva Pescanova - knows octopuses are highly intelligent and feel pleasure, pain, joy and fear, but this is its way of turning a huge profit. Now octopus farming is being slammed by scientists, the media, activists, and a growing number of legislators around the world. So if enough of us add to the pressure right now, we can stop it.

Sign this petition (https://action.eko.org/a/stop-the-world-s-first-octopus-farm-fba21) to tell the Spanish government that it should work to deny Nueva Pescanova the legal permits it needs to build the world's first octopus torture farm, and that it should pass legislation to prohibit octopus farming. We still need less than 81.000 signs to reach the goal of 750.000 signs!

Octopuses have until now been caught by fishers in the wild, and have never been bred in captivity for commercial farms. They are solitary animals that need to move freely, and commercial farming would for the first time cram them together and cause many of them to die from the stress, before painfully killing any survivors in freezing temperatures.

Environmental scientists have concluded that it's not possible to humanely raise octopuses in captivity at a commercial scale, as this would lead to cannibalism in animals that have effectively been driven mad.

Spiritual and non-vegan? 🤥

Since becoming vegan, I’ve often wondered: how can so many self-proclaimed spiritual or even paranormal people not be vegan? How can there be pet whisperers who, without any emotion, put an animal’s limb in their mouth and apparently “feel nothing” about it?

👻 They go to 'haunted' houses, can make contact through photos, and sometimes even solve entire crime mysteries. But would they feel it that, at a slaughterhouse just a few kilometers away, tens of thousands of souls had unwillingly left their bodies that same day? Do they sense how hard these animals screamed, how they tried to escape, how they trembled, frozen with fear? How they watched their loved ones suffer right in front of them, those they were so attached to? Do they feel how short their lives were, how many times they lost a child, and how many times they were violated in their lives?

Or are they even chewing on the bodies and bodily fluids of these killed ones, apparently totally forgotten that they have a connection with the paranormal world? These souls were someone. Every. Single. One.

Every ‘medium’ should be asked these questions, and I am sure that 99% could be easily unmasked this way. 🎭

🤯 Fake rescues for likes? Fake sanctuaries for money? Are people really capable of this?

Yes, through my own intuition with some videos or accounts, and now also highlighted by World Animal Protection, I’ve discovered that this is happening on a large scale. 🤳🏼🐈

ABUSE FOR LIKES
Cats, dogs, horses, cows, and wild animals like monkeys and bats are put in danger and abused to be ‘rescued’ on video. All to go viral, getting likes and/or to ask for donations.

🎥: Check comments for the (translated) video by World Animal Protection Nederland / World Animal Protection for an explanation, how to recognize these videos and what to do if you spot one.

FAKE SANCTUARY ACCOUNTS
I’m also noticing an increase in dog sanctuary accounts on Instagram with PayPal links in their bio, often reaching out through direct message or directly asking for money. Many of these accounts are from Uganda or countries around, and their videos often show either a small number of the same dogs repeatedly OR entirely different dogs in different locations. The dogs look scared, have their ears back when filmed, and are often chained up.
❌: They especially contact vegan-oriented and pet-focused accounts, so there’s a good chance many of them have already reached out to yours or came up in your algorithm.

NOTHING NEW
The exploitation of donations and aid for vulnerable groups is nothing new. Just as orphanages, sham shelters for poor children and refugees once used people to attract funds, today we see similar tactics in animal videos and fake rescue accounts. While this issue with animals isn’t yet widely known, it’s time for that to change. ⛓️‍💥

🙏 Believer or not: we may never know the real answer. But the gripping documentary Christspiracy brings us unsettlingly close - especially if you’re a Christian. ✝️

Personally, I think the real Jesus killed animals or was ok with animals being killed, as I don’t believe he was as exceptional as he has been portrayed for centuries. There is certainly evidence suggesting his existence (primarily about his crucifixion) and that he attracted large groups of people. But beyond that, all stories reached the New Testament only through many human hands and centuries after his lifetime. Because of this, (though I find the Bible fascinating and very interesting) I find it hard to believe it completely. Just like the incredible and sometimes bizarre stories of thousands of other holy figures. So, I can’t see myself as a Christian, and don’t see his actions as something I must follow or not. No matter what he may did or said.

BUT ARE YOU RELIGIOUS?
Then the question posed in the post might have sparked some reflection, as it did with many hesitant, evasive priests and other believers. This documentary provides insights that you might not have encountered before, also many other subjects. For example, did you know the Dalai Lama eats flesh too? 🤯

ANTI-VEGAN TROLLS
Currently, it’s a hot topic among religious trolls to claim that God put animals on earth for humans to exploit in every possible way. If they truly believe this, could they accidentally be followers of the Devil? Don’t they find the contradictions in the Bible (or Torah or Quran) strange? Or do they simply not care, because they benefit from it? - Send them the link of this documentary when they’re acting evil again. 💀

...to every pioneer who wants to end normalized, systemic animal exploitation by deciding to be vegan. But also by:

💚 participating in street activism
💚 creating articles, books, art, podcasts, music, documentaries, etc.
💚 sharing amazing online content
💚 opening beautiful vegan restaurants and hotels, and spreading the vegan message to visitors
💚 raising awareness in their own circles through thoughtful conversations and delicious plantbased meals and recipies
💚…and many other creative ways.

While it should be the norm to keep our hands off other lives, 99% of humanity is still deeply hypocritical (or simply harmful). Thanks to you, seeds are planted daily - or even eyes are opened directly. Despite the trolls and sometimes disheartening news, know that all we do is not in vain.

A day will come when our descendants will recoil at the actions of humankind. Hopefully, the word ‘veganism’ will no longer be necessary, because it will simply be the norm. Until then, every vegan is a true hero. Love you all.

🚬 Did you know that pig’s blood is hidden in cigarette filters? It’s unclear in which brands, but likely in most.

WHAT? WHY?
A book published in 2010 by Dutch author Christien Meindertsma reveals that haemoglobin from pig’s blood was used in cigarette filters, besides 184 other products where pig-derived substances have been found (I will dive in them soon). They put haemoglobin -a protein that carries oxygen in red blood cells- in the filters, because it absorbs some of the cancer-causing chemicals in to***co smoke. Which makes smoking ‘healthier’ for humans.

WHERE ARE THE INGREDIENTS ON THE PACKAGE?
The ‘ingredients’ of ci******es are carefully kept secret under the label of “production aids that are not significantly present in and have no functional effect on the final product”. Australian scientist Simon Chapman from the University of Sydney also refers to the research, stating: “This could explain why the to***co industry never reveals its methods, dismissing everyone with “That’s our business” and hiding behind “trade secrets.” Haemoglobin has been found in the filters of multiple brands, though only one cigarette brand, sold in Greece, admitted to using pig’s blood in the production process.

AND NOW?
Although this research took place nearly 15 years ago, it only received a few news reports at the time, after it went eerily silent. While it’s unclear if anything has changed since, you can (in my opinion) assume that most filters contain the blood of abused, exploited, and killed animals.

✂️🔥 Farmers love it: chopping, burning, or cutting off animal body parts.

The tails and budding teeth of piglets, the horns of calves and goats, and the toes and beaks of turkeys and chickens are not safe with a farmer around.

BUT, WHY?
They claim they do this to prevent animal suffering, so the animals can injure each other less. But, animals don’t just do this for no reason; it’s because they’re crammed into large sheds with thousands of others. And any animal, even humans, will harm each other in such conditions. But do you think farmers would even consider keeping fewer animals? That would cost them SO much money! And nothing is more important than money. No, not even crying, screaming, dismembered animals. So, this is the only solution. 🤑

HOW?
If female chicks (the males are shredded and killed on the first day of life) are healthy enough to become laying hens, it’s time for the tip of their beak to be removed. This is often done with pliers, a hot-clipping machine, or infrared laser, without any pain relief. This procedure causes the tip to die off. Chickens peck around all day to explore and discover their environment, but due the pain, they can’t for weeks or months. The cutted beak (and sometimes the tongue) is extremely sensitive due to the many nerves. Unfortunately, the chickens continue pecking each other because they’re still crammed together. Debeaking doesn’t stop this; it only limits the damage. But hey, as long as the farmer’s finances aren’t affected, right? 💸

AND THIS IS LEGAL?
The debeaking of birds is widely practiced in the meat and egg industry worldwide. In Europe, it’s banned in some countries, but tolerated. As a result, it still happens on a large scale. Some of these farmers even lobbying to reverse the ban, claiming it causes more animal suffering—but, of course, without wanting to keep fewer animals or stop having them at all.

That one egg, which to you is just a supermarket product, a breakfast, or an ingredient, is taken from a sensitive animal that has experienced more pain in a few months than you will in your entire life. Go vegan. 🌱

👽 What if you were ever thrown off your safe, towering human plateau, and your life was worth as much as that of a pig in this world?

🗣️ The human being. The creature that tramples everything, kills, uses, and moves on. The creature that makes each other feel as powerful as possible. The creature that, anno 2024, believes that every human life is important and valuable. And the more the years go by, the more valuable human lives seem to become. They donate money to charities fighting human diseases, human poverty, and helping people in need. They express their sincere compassion below every Facebook post, attend protests, and help their fellow humans with all their heart. They want to show their peers how empathetic and loving they are. Empathy, but only within their own throne, on their own towering plateau. ☁️

Because simultaneously, just beneath that human plateau, there are still many other, far more real, pure worlds. Where there is oppression, where life means serving as a slave to humans, and where fear is the dominant emotion. Where, every few miles, a holocaust is taking place. Where limbs are cut off. And not a single human seems to notice.

🕳️ Although it seems unthinkable; that throne on which humans have been lounging for so long may sooner or later be pulled out from under us. We will tumble down, off our plateau, into a lower world. Where a human life is just as important as the average pig’s life is today.

Empathy should know no boundaries. And if you clearly feel that it does? Then you are nowhere near as empathetic as you thought. Go vegan. 🌱

🥛🩸 They would have preferred it if you hadn’t lived at all. Your purpose was to activate your mother’s milk production, but after that, you were nothing more than a byproduct. You were your mother’s fifth calf, and she knew what would happen. She fought for your brothers in earlier years, but the oppressor's hands were too strong. So she just watched with tears in her eyes as you were placed in a wheelbarrow. Not even ready to stand up. With the umbilical cord still attached. To a place where a gun was the last thing seen in the reflection of your beautiful, innocent eyes. You were a byproduct of the food that was intended to nourish you.

❌🎥 Check the comments to see horrible footage of confused babies, looking for the warmth and love of their mother, but on the way to their merciless death. Activists of Animal Save Movement tried to comfort them and recorded this.

Realize where milk, butter, cheese , and all dairy products come from. When you consume it, a baby animal screams for their life. Go vegan 🌱

PETITION |🩸 Last Friday, Türkiye’s horrific new law has begun: stray dogs and cats that are sick or aggressive (difficult to accurately verify) must be euthanized. Healthy animals are to be sent to shelters, but there is room for only about 2.6% of the total stray population. If these animals are not adopted within 30 days, they too will be euthanized.

Although the intention is not for everyone to start killing them immediately, many people have seen this as an invitation to express their sadistic tendencies. On the very same day, numerous dead dogs and cats were found on garbage dumps, heavily abused, decapitated, and dismembered. 😭

Türkiye has an estimated 4 million stray dogs. While many locals care for and are fond of these animals, President Erdogan claims Türkiye has a stray dog problem on a scale not seen in any other civilized country. Despite numerous protests and petitions, the law went through July 29th and was enacted last Friday. Major cities like Istanbul and Ankara have indicated that their mayors will not enforce the law, although they will risk a prison sentence of six months to two years.

“BURN THE WITCH!” 🗣️🗣️🗣️
It’s human nature: when we hear or see injustice, we wish the perpetrator to suffer at least the same treatment, pain, or sorrow. This is the first reaction humans have on social media when they learn that someone has gruesomely murdered, sexually abused a child, or tortured and neglected a pet. The most intense and creative comments come to people’s minds and are shared with the world. And this is not new. For hundreds, if not thousands of years, people have sought justice and have gathered to witness the most horrific punishments.

THE ONLY TWO QUESTIONS ARE:
Do they do this because they feel empathy for the victim and therefore feel real revenge towards the perpetrator?
~
Or do they do this because those around them expect them to feel this way, and they are conditioned to feel anger from that expectation?

Why else can they turn off their empathy when it comes to sentient beings like pigs, cows, and chickens? Why can humans, without emotion, spray graffiti and write horrible words on animals as if they were inanimate objects, hurt them, abuse them, kill them, and why are 99% of others totally okay with this? Sometimes they even feel more empathy for the perpetrators. No matter how loud these animals scream, how much their eyes beg, most people just push it away or laugh it off.

Although, as a human being, I see this torture of innocent animals and feel anger bubbling up inside me, I still can only hope for my good old friend Karma to take care of it. I hope she marks the thickest crosses on the backs of these monsters with her paint spray, ensuring illness, misfortune, and loss do not spare them. Sorry, not sorry. I’m only human.

I SCREAM. 🍦

STORY - “The summer holidays have started, so it’s time for the annual open day of the local dairy farm! There is a bouncy castle, ponies are ridden, screaming children can be heard everywhere, and artisanal products are sold, like farmer’s cheese, yoghurt and of course ice cream, all made from the farm’s dairy. There is a long line, especially for the ice cream. Above all the music and laughter, a deafening scream can be heard. The boy with the red jacket wants a third ice cream, and almost got it.

And there you are. A 48 hour old calf. In a white calf igloo, outside. In the busy area. You are confused and tired. “Where is mommy?” You miss her warmth and security, and although you should sleep for many hours as a newborn, it’s impossible because of all the sounds today.

And then, he pops up in front of you. A red jacket. He has a vanilla ice cream in his hand. He eagerly puts his other sticky hand, which is also completely smeared, through the bars. You smell it and reflexively start sucking. It tastes like yesterday, the day when mom was still with you. A wave of loss is coming through you.
~
The boy pulls back, throws the ice cream at you, and starts screaming again. A mother is coming towards you. But not yours. He is lifted up, they cuddle and walk away without looking at you. Mother and son. You watch them, while the ice cream in front of you, melts. Made from the milk that was meant for you. The milk your mom made.

Next week you won’t be alive. While your mother cries for you, with her head bowed, your body parts will lie on a table. A family puts a knife in your flesh without emotion. They think they are good for the world, but are responsible for the most heinous acts. A happy and complete family, with a red jacket on the coat rack.🏡” -

This fictional story could easily be true. Every year dairy farms are praised by the public and they like to take a look, smell and taste. Because it is beautifully expressed, these people keep their blinders on. Even though the animals cry before their eyes; they don’t want to make comparisons.

Dairy is scary. Grieving mothers, dead babies, eternal slavery. Ditch it. Now. ❌

🍮 Foie gras: an expensive plate full of suffering, which has paid his own price.

I HEARD ABOUT IT, BUT WHAT ELSE?
The horrible dish foie gras literally means “a fat liver”. A goose or duck liver can only be called foie gras if it is at least 400 grams. This is 6 to 10 times higher than it’s normal weight. To achieve this, the geese and ducks are force-fed porridge 2 to 6 times a day with steel tubes in their throats, about 2 to 3 weeks before slaughter (at an age of only a few months). They experience fear, pain and also disbelief, because they didn’t know this horror before their last weeks.

But, did you also know that:
🐤 many beaks break, many esophagus perforate and that they have difficulty with breathing and walking because of the enormous liver? About 10-20% of geese and ducks even die before slaughter.
🐤 only the males are useful for this horrible industry? The females are gassed or shredded on their first day of life, just like roosters in the egg industry. This is because the liver of females is veined too much.
🐤 that the hybrid mulard duck only exists for the foie gras industry? They claim they store fat faster for long flights, but this overbred duck cannot even fly, is infertile and deaf.
🐤 production is prohibited in many countries, but importing is still done everywhere? It is still popular, especially in Europe. Mostly by the French and Belgians, and their countries are also still allowed to produce it.
🐤 there are brands who say that their foie gras is ethically produced? For example, they claim that they live free range, but of course they don’t explain what the last weeks of their victims are like. Examples are the brands Happy Foie and Foie Royale.

“LUCKILY I NEVER EAT FOIE GRAS.”
Good, but you may still support this awful industry. By purchasing bedding, pillows and jackets filled with down and feathers which comes from this industry, you are responsible for a big part of their income.

🦐 Eyestalk Ablation: ever heard of it?

Once a human discovered a biological fact and then had a brilliant, messed up idea. 😈💡

By cutting off your eye, little shrimp girl, your hormone balance will be messed up. It makes you lay eggs in bigger numbers, and faster. Which means companies can earn more money per baby you make. Now this is happening on big scales. Your suffering? Not important for them. No matter how many times you rub your wound against the edge. You have to survive for months without one eye, and then often for months without a second eye, in a big tank of water against all the other moms. Until you die.

But that’s not the only thing. Because you lay way more eggs now, you feel horrible. After 2 years you are exhausted, your body can no longer do it. While you could actually have lived to be 7 years old. Your body wasn’t meant to work this hard. You pay the unforgivable price, the price of shrimp cocktails and kroepoek. But we will make sure they can’t hide anymore. We will fight for you. 👊💚

🩸Blood farms: ever heard of them?

⛰️🐴 In wooden outdoor stables in the chilly wind of the open meadows of Iceland they are stuck: pregnant Icelandic horse mares pressed close together. In a period of 10 weeks, about 40 liters of blood are drawn from them. Every week, they’re driven with sticks to tapping boxes, where their heads are tied and a thick needle is inserted into their necks. Some panic so much that they almost hang themselves. Because much more blood is drawn than scientists think should be allowed (18% of their total blood volume per week, instead of 10 - 15%), almost all horses have anemia, inflamed veins and open wounds.

BUT, WHY?
The blood of pregnant mares contains the hormone PMSG. And this is exactly the hormone that also gets other animals pregnant faster. The meat and dairy industry is very happy with this hormone, and millions are paid for it worldwide to inject or supplement pigs and cows. Because they get pregnant so quickly now, their bodies cannot properly recover from previous pregnancies and litters in pigs becoming way larger, leading to piglet mortality. Yet it produces more meat, and so more money.

AND WHAT ABOUT THE FOALS?
Because the hormone can only be obtained early in pregnancy, many foals are aborted so that the mares can be fertilized twice a year. Foals are allowed to be born on some farms, but they are also used for the meat industry or as blood mares too. Worldwide, horse meat is still widely sold in supermarkets, and where this isn’t the case anymore (like the Netherlands), this foal meat often disappears into catering snacks, like croquettes or minced meat sticks.

Iceland, Argentina and Uruguay are the only three countries in the world where farmers are allowed to do this. In Iceland are 119 of these blood farms, which make big money from these terrible practices.

Although fortunately many organizations are fighting against this, it has not stopped and there is little visibility into it. STOP consuming flesh and mother’s milk, to end all of this. Go vegan. 🌱

👁️👁️ Yes you, DARE. Maybe you will find a very bad feeling deep inside. But let me tell you something: it’s the best gift there is. Because it means that maybe you are not a real monster. Just listen to it.

🐐“The smell of blood, death and above all: fear. You are standing in front of me, in the row. I stare at the brown patch on your tail that wagged so happily when we were still baby goats. Besides mom, you were my everything. How we slept next to each other every night. “Free-range”, they called us. “There is no happier piece of meat,” the farmer once said, laughing as he leaned against the fence. I stare at you with wide eyes, how I feel that we are being pushed further and further. You turn your face to me, and as soon as you see my fear, I see your eyes change, and you start to buck and fight. So many times you’ve beaten me by playing around. The temperament which was always there. This time you didn’t win. I squeeze my eyes shut as hard as I can and only smell your blood as your familiar screaming voice fades away. I kept my eyes closed, like they would protect me. They stayed this way.”

🕺🏼💃🏽 You only live once - live your life to the fullest - get the most out of life: statements we hear often, because your life and the lives of loved ones are worth everything to you. The law has been adapted to it, healthcare has been adapted to it and society has been adapted to it. Actually, if you are not living in war or genocide, you are safe. And if not, people will stand up for you, even though it may be too late. A human life is gloriously at the top.

As a chicken, goat, fish or other victim of humans, life is anything but safe. Even though their life is all they have, they value it just like you, they have emotional bonds with others of their kind, just like you, and they release exactly the same chemicals when they experience fear and pain: you still don’t seem to care. There is no difference in what matters. And deep down… you know. 👨‍🦯

They are animals. Just like you. Go vegan. 🌱

...the trick they don’t show to visitors. 🪄

Because,
💰you (or your parents or grandparents) were hunted at sea;
💰you have been captured in a horrible way;
💰perhaps sold on and had to go through a terrible journey;
💰you are deliberately bred, purely for entertainment;
💰you are now stuck in a chlorine tank that is not even a fraction of the size in which you are supposed to live: the ocean or sea;
💰you literally go crazy because the sonar sounds you make to communicate normally sound miles away, but now bounce back to you against the concrete wall;
💰you are now on the surface 80% of the time, while in nature you should be deep underwater 80%;
💰you now have to “beach” on hard surfaces to give visitors kisses, but because you do this so often your intestines often prolapse;
💰they keep you constantly hungry, so that you always continue to perform your tricks diligently;
💰they think you are smiling because they don’t want to realize that this is just the shape of your jaw, even if you are very sad, angry or sick.

Yes, through my own intuition with some videos or accounts, and now also highlighted by World Animal Protection, I’ve discovered that this is happening on a large scale. 🤳🏼🐈 ABUSE FOR LIKES Cats, dogs, horses, cows, and wild animals like monkeys and bats are put in danger and abused to be ‘rescued’ on video. All to go viral, getting likes and/or to ask for donations. FAKE SANCTUARY ACCOUNTS I’m also noticing an increase in dog sanctuary accounts on Instagram with PayPal links in their bio, often reaching out through direct message or directly asking for money. Many of these accounts are from Uganda or countries around, and their videos often show either a small number of the same dogs repeatedly OR entirely different dogs in different locations. The dogs look scared, have their ears back when filmed, and are often chained up. ❌: They especially contact vegan-oriented and pet-focused accounts, so there’s a good chance many of them have already reached out to yours or came up in your algorithm. NOTHING NEW The exploitation of donations and aid for vulnerable groups is nothing new. Just as orphanages, sham shelters for poor children and refugees once used people to attract funds, today we see similar tactics in animal videos and fake rescue accounts. While this issue with animals isn’t yet widely known, it’s time for that to change. ⛓️‍💥 Don’t trust an account or video? Report it immediately and avoid interaction. 🚫
