I found out about it a little to late to make it, but for those who are up for a later weeknight or still out on an extended holiday, I highly recommend you get to Mercury Lounge tonight at around 9 p.m. to hear Funhouse Mirrors, a terrific and wildly creative young band. One of the bands members is Evan Sheppard, the son of one of my longtime musical colleagues Kathy Sheppard. Talent definitely runs in the family!

Peter Ulrich has his debut with Dead Can Dance!

A sharp-eyed and mathematically astute reader has just alerted us to the fact that today... June 23... is the 40th anniversary of Peter's debut live performance with Dead Can Dance.

Having received their demo tape, 4AD's Ivo Watts-Russell added DCD to a bill at the Ace Cinema in Brixton, south London, supporting Xmal Deutschland and The Box on this very day in 1983.

Ivo wanted to see and hear how DCD would come over live, so Peter played his first gig with a record deal hanging in the balance - no pressure then! To revisit the story, check out pages 40-43 in Drumming with Dead Can Dance and Parallel Adventures. And if you were there... let us know!
