As I'm edging closer to 30 my music taste is inevitably getting more prog inflected,
and I make no apologies. Expect a nice amount of at least
10 minute jazz-prog-psych tracks interspersed with some
more snappy psych-jazz-folk-rock numbers. It's mostly vintage tonight, with
a couple of more contemporary tracks from the excellent The New Eves and Un.procedure , both of whom I have been lucky enough to discover at recent live performances.

Nick is on for a live show tonight and will be going a bit off piste! It'll be a special edition celebrating Massachusetts based weird rock/basement pop/chaotic funtime band The Zookeepers. Criminally underappreciated and totally brilliant, they were basically my favourite band for most of my teenage / uni years and had a huge influence on my love for the wilder side of music.

They've just released their first album in nearly 10 years and it's very good, so I'll be celebrating that plus some of their back catalogue. Plus some standard Two Foot Left weirdness.

Very 'live' feel pre-record today as our studio fob got briefly stuck on a Welsh promontory. Enjoyed doing it though, lots of new stuff including the new release from Emergence Collective on Redundant Span, Sleep Machine (side project of Ye Woodbeast member), Loic J Tuckey, Bean Weevil. Join Izzy tonight on a wild musical road trip through France, with field recordings, songs heard and inspired by a recent journey from Paris down to the mountains in Grenoble, and then on to France's second largest lake, Annecy. Featuring field recordings of church organ drones, crickets, train drones and avant-garde xylophone playing, plus a bit of Serge Gainsbourg (inspired by a visit to his place of rest in Montparnasse Cemetery) and songs about mountains, rivers and the sun. Oh and also a bit of 80s Spanish punk, flamenco and klezmer...

A special show this evening focusing on the work of the recently departed guitarist Steffen Basho Junghans. All his work was deeply entangled with the natural world, so I've put a show together of music by him, his influences, those influenced by him, including stuff from 'Solstice' - new tribute compilation - and music more widely in tune with the more-than-human world. It also includes some previously unheard recordings I made of Steffen in about 2007, playing guitar in a Japanese ornamental garden and reciting the words of his namesake, the c.16th Japanese travelling zen poet Matsuo Basho.

Tonight - I hope you like the key of C! This week the experimental guitar orchestra Hearing Things played Terry Riley's famous 'In C' at The Abbeydale Picture House / . The piece is described as sounding like a 'flock of birds' - and the recording of this guitar only version came out so well I've decided to play the whole thing from 10pm. Normal weirdo music 9-10pm and then you can all buckle in for what will be a very soothing meditative ride...

Tonight Izzy presents a chaotic concoction of intriguing aural delights. Album of the day for tonight is Morteza Mahjubi's 'Selected Improvisations'
"Morteza Mahjubi, an Iranian pianist & composer who developed a unique tuning system for the piano which enabled the instrument to be played in all the different modes and dastgahs of traditional Persian art music. Known as Piano-ye Sonnati, this technique allowed Mahjubi to express the unique ornamental and monophonic nature of Persian classical music on this western instrument - mimicking the tar, setar & santur and extracting sounds from the piano which are still unprecedented to this day."

Plus some interesting vocal layer looping from Omnivore, Claire Rousay, and a long form track from Chris Ruffoni, who presented his 'solarphones' installations of solar-powered suspended plucked instruments at the ever-inspiring Supernormal Festival this year.

Izzy's back tonight for an evening of contemporary classical, ambient drone and little bits of weird jazz. Tonight's featured album is Kate Carr's 'I had Myself A Nuclear Spring', which interweaves field recordings in the strangely wild hinterlands surrounding a nuclear power station in France. Juxtaposing bird song and electrical hums, Carr uses these recordings to build compositions using ambient electronic and sparse guitar playing.
