'HEART Of A MONSTER' by Damian Marcano / 19min
A man goes out to battle a monster that has plagued his village for centuries.
For generations, It has become the duty of every man - once they come of age - to go out and fight the monster. After the failed attempt of the village's strongest man, the elders are forced to send the next best option, Gengu. Leading up to his departure, Gengu begins to have dreams of a future that makes no sense, except that the monster has killed everyone. Armed with a slingshot and very little faith from his fellow tribesmen, Gengu goes in search of the beast. ‘Heart of a Monster’ parallels the senselessness of today’s conflicts through the reality of manufactured hysteria. Some monsters in our lives are no greater than the ones we create ourselves. The film is adapted from the short story ‘Heart Of A Monster’ by Muhammad Muwakil. The original score is done by Cheah-Meng and includes tones of 'music de Zumbie' performed by Crisanta Martha.
Spoken entirely in Papiamentu, the official language of Bonaire, Aruba, and Curacao - ‘Heart Of A Monster’ is also 100% handmade. The students of Instituto Buena Bista along with Damian Marcano - designed and engineered every prop by hand. Using only materials that have been recycled or locally sourced in Curacao, they proved that a 'Monster' of an idea can come from a small place.
