Here's an excerpt from this short story by Lakeisha E.:

I was awakened by what sounded like squeaky wheels going on a cart going down the hallway. I was tired from the trip here, so I paid it no mind and closed my eyes.

The next day I came out of my room to get a feel of the place. I saw a staff member walking by, and I smiled at her. She smiled as she continued on her way, and I continued mine. I saw other staff, but they were all busy doing other things. I was a bit concerned about the strange way the ones that did look at me were looking at me and whispering to each other, but I figured they’d worked here too long.

I walked into a huge, dark, musty room full of books. I got excited, seeing I can....

Here's an excerpt from this article by Jeneé:

All my life I knew that I was going to be a writer, and I was going to be good at it. I have written several short stories with friends, as well as, alone over the years. I completed my first unpublished manuscript at the tender age of 12 and I was the happiest girl in the world. I felt like I could take on the world looking at the huge stack of papers that I had created on an old dinosaur of a computer. (Nothing like what we have these days lol).

Do some research on the 1940s Harlem Renaissance.

And yes, that's me in the bottom right! Lol! 🙃

It's this feeling that drives the creative direction of this literary magazine. It's this feeling that makes RRLM so unique.

Also yes, you are able to send in AI generated art for consideration.

"My Ode to the African American" written by Best Selling Author Lauren Brooks, originally published on website. It is a beautiful literary opinion and we'd even call it a "tippin of the hat", if you will, to the African American community.

She writes:

My first book, "Lesedi and the Purple Lotus", at its core, is the story of Black people. It’s a whimsical fantasy filled with rich history. I wanted to create a fantasy world Black people could see themselves in.

As children of the diaspora and descendants of enslaved Africans, our history is often presented to us from the outside looking in. I wanted to give an inside look into what makes us magic. It was also important that I tell an authentic story.

I’ve incorporated real stories of resilience and perseverance that have been hidden from us over the years in this book. This story doesn’t focus on the trauma that came out of slavery, it instead focuses on the Black girl and Black boy magic that carried us through it. It’s the story of who we are at our core as Black folks.

"Vintage Aesthetics: Embracing Artistic Progression and Contemporary Values"

Here's an excerpt from a story now available:

At Renaissance Reads Literary Magazine, we have started on a journey that transcends time, blending the charm of vintage aesthetics with the vibrancy of contemporary values. Our mission is clear: to embrace the artistic and design elements of the Harlem Renaissance, a pivotal era in history that brought forth cultural transformation and artistic innovation. As we dig deeper into the essence of vintage aesthetics, we draw a distinct line between appreciation and adherence, steering clear of regressive or problematic aspects that plagued the 1940s. Join us as we explore the intricate tapestry of creativity, inclusivity, and forward thinking that defines RRLM.

And I've decided to do all of the above with a focus on literature and art. The thing that I love the most about my upcoming literary magazine is the style.

I've always felt really connected to the 1940s Harlem. I bet if I was reincarnated that back then I was married to a poet who was also an artist. We probably wrote together, listened to jazz, and dressed in sophisticated threads. We probably had 2 kids and a happy life.

Haha! Ohh I can dream.

Now here in Florida, as an author-publisher who helps writers write, publish and sell books while creating more moments of wellness, pursuing the publishing of a literary magazine felt like the next right step.

I've created this publications for Creatives.

Creative writers and artist alike.

I hope you'll join me or at the very least hit follow and see what we're up to.

LITERARY MAGAZINE - PRINT & ONLINE

WIND-DOWN AND RELAX, CONNECT TO YOUR INNER CREATOR

Renaissance Reads Literary Magazine invites you to get involved and get connected. While we have plenty of advertising space, we welcome submissions from writers, artists, and business owners.

At RRLM, our mission is to embrace vintage aesthetics, not vintage values. We proudly acknowledge and appreciate the artistic and design elements of the Harlem Renaissance, a pivotal period in history. However, we firmly distance ourselves from any regressive or problematic aspects that were prevalent during the 1940s.

We celebrate the progressive nature of art during this era and aspire to create a welcoming space for Creatives. Whether they are writers, poets, authors, traditional artists, or those utilizing 100% human or A.I. assistance, we provide a platform for their expression. Additionally, we support small indie businesses, fostering a vibrant community of creators.

While RRLM is a new venture, our backing bookstore has already been serving this community for the past three years, reaching four years in September. On November 3, we will release our inaugural magazine, further contributing to the cultural landscape and amplifying the voices of talented individuals.

Through our commitment to vintage aesthetics, contemporary values, and the promotion of artistic progression, RRLM aims to make a meaningful impact on the creative community and beyond.

“Starting a new Instagram account for Renaissance Reads Literary Magazine was so necessary to foster its growth.

While it is a part of I wanted to keep things simple. The older I get the more I realize that less is more. And to me that meant separating accounts vs. integrating them.

I also think our readers, authors and publishing professionals will enjoy seeing us rise from the bottom.
