Over the last few months my mental health has taken a real toll on me and has really forced me to really think about what my purpose is.

Today, in the middle of working on several projects, briefs and reports I shut my laptop, got in my car and just drove. For anyone who knows me, you know this is not like me at all when it comes to my work ethic. But sometimes, you just need to stop, breathe, be present in the moment, and think about why you started and how far you've come to remember why you do it at all.

This week I've been talking a lot to our athletes about vulnerability and posting about your most authentic self, and I've done my best to be true to who I am and honest about what I've gone through, but I haven't really talked about much the last 13 months.

On February 18, 2019 my dad died. I've talked about it from time to time but when it happened I shut down and drowned myself in work.

My dad and I weren't close by any means, we had a strained relationship from my childhood and it took me a long time to fully process his death, and maybe to some extent I still haven't.

Regardless, when I was talking with our athletes today I realized how hypocritical I was being - sitting there telling them to be their truest self, but wasn't living up to my own words. So, this my authentic self, as someone who grew up with an alcoholic father and at 20 years old had to plan his funeral. This is me not letting anything hold me back from my goals in life, no matter the setback.

It's not bike racing or marketing, it's not the "PR'd version" of me, it's me in my truest form.
