As promised back in November 2017 I would re-read this book a year later, I looked at the dates and decided to make it a 2nd anniversary thing for KAGPodcast and I was extremely hard in my overall opinion of the book. It was a combination of not being familiar with the novels of that era, most of what I read was from 90-00. I enjoy the framing it allows the book to still be in continuity with the shows since he expressly states he is over exaggerating everything and that allows the “historical mistakes” to stand since it is written off as fantasy story written in the universe of Star Trek.
After reading a good deal more Klingon themed books I appreciate the lasting legacy Ford brought the culture and fandom.
I still don’t care for the transition phase of Krenn from youth to adulthood. I don’t agree with the characterization of McCoy and Spock at the end but beyond that this book does deserve to be on the “Must Read” list!
