Assistant Editor: Marilee Pray

Mission Statement:

The Oyster Kiln is an annual online literary magazine that seeks to publish up-and-coming writers, artists, musicians, and creative people in general We mostly publish solicited works of poetry, fiction, and art, and we hope to expand to include comics, music, video art… whatever we can get. The magazine started as a writing workshop run by the Students of the Sweet English To

ngue (SET), a group of undergrads from scattered colleges who inadvertently turned their desire for peer-criticism into a real live print publication. Given its origins, the products of the workshop are at the core of each issue. The SET meticulously critiques each other’s work and revises together until the workshopped pieces are deemed ready for publication. The editors judge outside submissions based on the standards we hold ourselves to in the workshop.

Put it, where it is

Some installation art we've included in the past, courtesy of Emily Meyer.

By Emily Meyer. "The title of the piece is taken from the Robert Creeley poem “The Window,” in which he describes the positioning of an object as both “where you put it” and “where it is.” He focuses our attention on the interplay between artistic intent and the artwork’s own volition as it grows or...
