Travel and hospitality-related businesses in Buncombe County can now apply for financial support from Explore Asheville to reopen after the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. More than $750,000 is available in microgrants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000.

Eligibility Requirements:
👥 Business must be a small, independent business with at least two employees and not more than 100 employees as of September 26, 2024.
📅 Business must have been in operation before July 1, 2024.
🎡 Business must provide direct in-person visitor experience. A business providing lodging, in whole or in part, is not eligible.
🗺 Business must be physically located within Buncombe County.
☔️ Applicant must be able to demonstrate the business was impacted by Hurricane Helene, including but not limited to business interruption, physical damage, and/or loss of equipment or inventory.
📋 Must provide a clear plan to re-open quickly and a detailed description of grant fund use.

Businesses must apply before 5 pm on Nov. 11, 2024.

Explore Asheville will host open office hours Monday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Nov. 8, 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. at Explore Asheville’s office.

OPPORTUNITY TO LOVE — Bring music back to Western North Carolina Musicians! 🎼

Have you ever heard the term “Mountain Shoutin’”?

Anyone who grew up around here knows what it is, even if you don’t recognize the term.

It’s the music we were raised on. It makes up the soundtrack of our earliest memories, each and every chord reminding us of the people we shared them with.

This music is its own genre, and it’s played on guitars and banjos and harmonicas and stand-up basses and hurdy-gurdies and fiddles and ukuleles and spoons. It’s simple, soulful, and steeped in tradition.

In Appalachia, it’s played on front porches, in churches, by bonfires, and at little hole-in-the-wall establishments that serve barbecue and biscuits and fried okra.

In the best cases, it happens spontaneously. One by one, a friend contributes a chord or a melody or a harmony. Unplanned, unorganized, and unapologetic.

You can clog to it, clap to it, or tap to it. But I bet you can’t sit still.

If you are from around here, this music triggers a feeling deep in your soul. It feels like home.

Music of any kind — but especially this sweet, southern kind — brings people together. And in a time of crisis, isn’t that just what we need?

We are looking for gently-used musical instruments to test, clean, and deliver to BeLoved Asheville so they can distribute them to the music makers who have lost their instruments.

LEAF Global is a drop-off location for BeLoved Asheville’s Buckets of Love initiative. Full a 5-gallon bucket with art supplies and toys for kids. The buckets are needed for hauling water and the art supplies, toy, games, etc. will bring joy to kids in hard-hit areas of Western N.C.

Drop off Monday-Friday, 11am-4pm.
