Made with friends at home, ‘Eyeline’ is of the origin of sight, like seeing the one who is watching, an imperfect parade for charmed constellations.
The announcement coincides with the drunken but amorous “Win Some” (feat. Okay Kaya) and its airy music video edited by Vanessa Castro. Sherah Shipman swirls underneath a beautiful, winding track guided by Okay Kaya’s organ-like strings that trace a somber beginning to a swirling, transcendent finish.

Through history, language, and polyrhythmic music for piano, percussion, and saxophone, JJJJJerome asks: “How can thinking about water help us think about dysfluencies, blacknesses, and musics together?”
He recounts the true story of a group of captured Africans using music to help execute a mutiny, then the track gives way to an impassioned and sweeping section led by the warm tones of a Rhodes.

A new track from JJJJJerome Ellis' upcoming album ‘The Clearing’ is out today! “Stepney” was written as an offer to the ancestors, and specifically, black ancestors who stuttered.

“Stepney” opens with JJJJJerome vocalizing over a hip-hop beat with rumbling 808s and swirling processed saxophones. Then he sings the names of enslaved, dysfluent African-descended individuals who ran away from their enslavers.
JJJJJerome encountered these names in an archive of so-called “fugitive slave advertisements” from 18th and 19th-century newspapers. Stepney is one of those names.
After this ceremonial invocation of ancestors, JJJJJerome’s mentor and friend Milta Vega-Cardona reads an email she wrote to him in 2019: “I am moved to believe that your so-called stutter is a space where you transcend the limitations of lineal white-time. And how in the space of that holdtime you create a non-lineal time continuum, and access to the ancestors, both for you and the listener.”
The track builds to a climax with arpeggiated synths, galloping hi-hats, and saxophone overdubbed in rising swells.

We are happy to welcome UK-based Dear Laika (Isabelle “Izzy” Thorn) to the NNA family! In partnership with Memorials of Distinction, Dear Laika has shared the syrupy and vaporous “Phlebotomy”.
This track is a spellbinding Bach invocation about “q***r time” in the context of medical transition. Dear Laika’s clear, keening vocals soar above the choral texture, accompanied by a synth bass resounding like a distant cathedral organ.
Izzy gets blood tested every six months to check her hormone levels. Each visit requires three vials of blood to be drawn. Most recently, she fainted for the first time in her life.
“Transitioning is a constant process and it takes a long time, made longer in the UK by dangerously long waiting lists. Trans people often find their lives temporarily put on hold while they wait to finally become happy with their bodies. It can be a painful, lonely experience. I’ve spent most of the past 5 years waiting. I’m still waiting. And so I have begun to process time in a different way, as if it is simultaneously standing still and stolen away from me." - Dear Laika

Sally Decker has shared the buzzing and euphoric titular centerpiece of her forthcoming album. “In The Tender Dream” is documentation of Sally Decker’s evolving understanding of what self-love really is.
This sound environment is an expression of the deep desire and constant, somewhat desperate seeking of the dream of this love that in fact only resides inside.
Ears to Feed, who premiered the track, says that “Squeals, chirps and shimmering tones unfold for nearly eight and a half minutes before we hear her admit that “I may have wanted you because you made me feel needed.” Layers of vocals stack up like the muttering evocations of a séance as she obliquely explains how a lack of control can be addictive.”
