There are many steps involved in writing your book! I'll be covering those in upcoming posts. Be sure to follow so you don't miss a post.

Create the Manuscript

If you are already writing, you will realize this is a very time consuming part of becoming published. Of course, that will depend on the type of book you are writing. A children's book will not take as long as a novel. However, the steps are the same for any book you publish.

When writing the manuscript, it's necessary to get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Don't worry about the errors at this point. That's where editing and proofreading will come into play.

If you have never written before, you can take online writing classes or read books about writing for your target audience. You can also join writing groups on Facebook.

Once you have your rough draft, you will want to have others read your story. In the case of a children's story, you will want to read it aloud to your target audience. I remember reading my first book aloud to my 4-K class. There are also beta readers that you can hire to read over your book to be sure the tense is correct, the story flows, characters are defined, etc.
