Post dated cheques
You can put a future date on the cheque and give it to the person you want to pay this is a method which is commonly practiced in corporate world because this ensures the reciever that he has the payment in the form of cheque which he can later encash. And this gives the payee some time till the reciever is able to encash the cheque . In real world ' it gives the payee some time to collect funds till the date of the cheque arrives.

Types of cheque :
Cross cheque - where you write the name of the person or company in whose account you want to transfer the money. Then you put double cross at the top left corner of the cheque.
Through this firstly you ensure that the cheque goes directly and only to the person / company mentioned and no one else.
Such cheques take a day before the amount is deducted from the payees account. for eg a cross cheque if deposited in bank on tuesday the reciever will get the amount by wednesday evening. if payees account doesnt have enough funds as mentioned on the cheque on wednesday morning then the cheque is 'returned' which is a crime.
