Ten years ago today, Crescent Hill Radio began broadcasting from Kathy Weisbach's basement on the internet and on AM 1650 under the FCC's Part 15 low power radio broadcast regulations. In October 2014, the station was awarded a low power FM license and began broadcasting at 100.9 FM. Although we are no longer on the air, we send thanks to everyone who contributed to our incredible ride!

Ryan Sanders, of Harrodsburg, Ky band, Figure 8, was recently written about in his hometown's newspaper, chronicling the release of his album, "Ex Nihilo" -- WCHQ played a special part in the making of this album, as it was because Ryan heard his band's previous recordings being played on the station, that he felt he had more music in him to get out, and he began to write & record again. Ryan's story, is a shining example of what WCHQ's mission was, and we couldn't be more proud to, not only be mentioned in this particular article, but we're also given special thanks on "Ex Nihilo"'s album sleeve.

Beyond The Music - 2017.01.23 - Stratosphere

Neil Peart, drummer for Canadian rock band, RUSH, has passed away... it's the first tragic loss in the world of music in 2020; one of our fav covers ever performed in our studios, was Rush's, "The Spirit of Radio", as covered by Stratosphere (you know them now, as VILLA MURE). From our posthumous series, 'Beyond the Music', check out the spot-on cover right here (scroll to 3mins, 28secs in), and hear the passion for RUSH, right here in the River City

A message from the founder, GM and President of WCHQ (Kathy Weisbach):

Tonight until midnight will be WCHQ's final broadcast. As we ring in the new year, the station will go off air. Many of us at WCHQ will be on air tonight - there will be a top songs of 2019 feature, and a count down to 2020 as well as lots of memories shared about WCHQ, I am sure.
I started Crescent Hill Radio in 2010. It's been great fun meeting and working with all the volunteer staff and the musicians I've met. As a nonprofit, it's was always a struggle financially, but a joy in so many other ways. I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this station, but especially Gary Sampson - music director and VP. Gary's done so much for local musicians by compiling and organizing a database of over 45,000 songs from over 4000 local artists. We will be passing on this collection to the UofL Archives and hopefully, also to another radio station. Also, in the most recent years, Ed Snyder has proved indispensible as Studio Manager, working with staff to coordinate schedules, events and lots of other things.
Although I had always hoped the station would acquire more support, I do not regret the years of devotion I have put into this station. I know the connections and networking that have started here will continue on in many other forms, and I hope that WCHQ has touched the lives of many people in a good way. Thanks for listening.

It's the last day of 2019 - New Year's Eve, a day of celebration for endings, and new beginnings... for us here, at WCHQ 100.9 FM, Today, is the ending of an era. As we had announced at the beginning of November, Today is our final broadcast day; as the New Year is being rung in around the U.S., at midnight tonight, WCHQ will go silent, ceasing operations after 9-1/2 years of bringing the sounds of Kyana's local & regional music scenes to the FM airways.

We wish to thank everyone who got behind our mission, and became loyal listeners... a huge Thank You to our entire volunteer staff, who gave generously of their time and talents, just simply for the love of local music & arts, and to the local artists, who contributed recordings to our local music database, exceeding over 4,500 artists, which will remain preserved for prosperity. This station came to be, and is dedicated to the local musicians, the singers, and the songwriters who shape our arts scene here in Ky, and it's because of them, that we survived as long as we did - you guys & gals MADE this station happen.

Before we leave the airways, Tonight, our entire staff - past & present - are returning for a final send-off, with our "New Years Eve Countdown to 2020 Oblivion"... from 9pm til Midnight tonight, as you head out for your NYE festivities, take WCHQ with you, and listen in, as we celebrate together, with a playlist comprised of our FAV local songs released in 2019, along with memories, laughs and more...

In closing, its been a wonderful nine years... a nine years that none of us here at WCHQ will surely forget, and we hope YOU won't forget about us either. Happy New Year to you all, and best wishes for the future...
