🥹 💔We are deeply saddened to report the passing of Mike Miller, an esteemed American rock and jazz guitarist born on May 8, 1953. Throughout his remarkable career, he collaborated with notable artists such as Chick Corea, Bette Midler, Yellowjackets, Brand X, Burton Cummings, Vinnie Colaiuta, Quincy Jones, Gino Vannelli, and Vital Information. Mike was a unique talent in the realms of jazz and rock, and his contributions to the music community will be profoundly missed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his artistry. 💔

Los Angeles is a music city.

The rock stars and the pop stars, sure, but also the session musicians, the producers, the mixers, the visual artists, the engineers, the tour managers, the caterers, the label interns and on and on. Many of the names in your liner notes, many of the people who made your collection possible, have lost so much.

So far, thankfully, the record stores we've caught up with are standing, majority of their staff is ok, and they're working to give support to their community, which includes all the people above, but also their regular customers, people just like you.

Here are just two examples, with ways you can help them, even from far away.

Our adult Amoeba California tees are now available online at Amoeba.com. These support L.A. Wildfire relief efforts, with the proceeds going to (World Central Kitchen), a nonprofit organization that mobilizes unbelievably quickly to provide fresh meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. They are in L.A. now feeding firefighters/first responders, and the public.

We carry his legacy with us, inspired by the remarkable breadth of his music career. From his remarkable journey starting in 1933 to his enduring impact that lasted until 2024, we are continually reminded of the greatness he brought to the world of music. His artistry and vision will always inspire us as we strive to follow in his footsteps.

AGBU Arts, AGBU Western Region, and the Cinema Foundation of Armenia will celebrate the centenary of legendary Armenian director Sergei Parajanov and Armenian cinema with “A Century of Armenian Cinema” at the AGBU Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Cultural Center on Wednesday, October 23 at 8pm.

The evening will consist of Sergei Parajanov’s HAKOB HOVNATANYAN (1967) and Hamo Beknazarian’s SHOR AND SHORSHOR (1927). These rarely screened films will be brought to life with the live musical improvisation by cellist Artyom Manukyan.
