"This song was written when I was going through a slightly rough phase in my life. It was like I was talking to myself through the lyrics. This was the first song I wrote in 2016, and the lyrics are about me, dealing with hesitation, crying over spilt milk and just picking myself up from the well of self pity I'd climbed down into, and moving the f**k on. It really helped, cos it's after I wrote this song, is when I realised that Runt had to happen."

In this episode, Basrur tries his hand at clapping, makes some funny noises, and shows off his magnificent dad-bod.
"The first line came to me in its entirety, complete with the lyric, melody and rhythm. All I had to do was rush to my guitar and little black book and put it down before it slipped away. It's fairly self explanatory- but it stemmed from one of many moments where I've experienced the anxiety of knowing that I will likely fail at something I deeply care about. However, not trying at all is, to some, an even bigger failure. Throwing aside all apprehensions and going for broke might seem the brave thing to do, but if you over analyze every little detail, like I do, then it can also feel like lying to yourself. The little white lies we tell ourselves is more often than not very dangerous and self destructive. But if we're ever lucky enough to be on the right path, they can be the tiniest little push we need to move forward.
The first line is pretty much an unanswerable question- at least one that can not be answered without a handful of clauses and caveats to it. So when you have nobody to turn to who can advocate for any one path over the other I find that that is when I reflect on simpler times when I didn't think so much. The company of our invisible friends, be them the product of children's imaginations going wild, Gods and angels in the sky or the memory of the ones we love, always have a way to calm us down. And whenever I find myself in a rut of my own doing, such as dwelling on such volatile thoughts, I know that know matter how I choose to move forward, if I do it with a calm and clear head I'll be that much better prepared for the consequences. "

"'I Have Time' is a Song I wrote for myself. I reached a point where everything around me seemed really difficult and I started losing my faith really easily. I started questioning my achievements and how far I've come considering my age and started comparing myself to others. Until I started to realize that age has nothing to do with all of this and I was panicking for no apparent reason. I could definitely slow down, take my time and get things right again.
I Have Time for me is a song about self renewal and to get things back on track when it seems out of focus and filled with negativity. The above lines act as a reminder to not be lazy and pick up from where you've fallen. We all have plenty of time, no one's judging you and neither should you be on a clock.
If you read the lyrics to the song it may seem like a post break-up thing, but in reality its just me trying to patch things up with myself. :) "

"So being "by the sea" in this song is kind of a metaphor for being content and peaceful with you're surroundings and yourself. When I first moved to Mumbai, I had some really really bad days a couple of times, so I would go sit by the ocean for a while. It wouldn't cure everything, but I've also done the same when I've been a really good place, and that's amazing. So it kind of helps remind me that I'll get there. "By The Sea" was written when I was not in the best mindset, and what was really helping me was being around people that were happy or were at least trying to be. For me they were "by the sea" and that's where I wanted to get. So being around them made it feel like it was a little closer."

So welcome, to our new series called 'Lyric Breakdown' where artists talk about the story behind some of their favorite lyrics.
To start off, here's the lovely Akash Vincent talking about the track 'Anyway' from his 'Polaris' EP :
"About self-deception: "We lie to ourselves for a very understandable reason - because we want to avoid pain"
Something I saw in a video by 'The School of Life'. I wonder whether we really do manage to successfully escape pain by lying to ourselves. The lyrics I wrote for the song 'Anyway' in my second EP Polaris, are the closest to me. I write songs with the hope that they may speak to someone the way certain songs spoke to me when I was a child. And in trying to do this, I also find myself in overwhelming situations where I'm singing about my most personal thoughts in front of strangers.
This song came after a fight with someone very dear to me. It was because of an emotion I had been carrying for a long time. A lot of thoughts came out in the open during that fight. And I realised that my perception of reality was different from theirs. It left me wondering whether all of that could have been avoided if we had just communicated with each other, without any of our guards on. As human beings I feel we've figured out many tools to communicate, but there's still a long way to go in learning how to really do it."
