The decision was taken at a general staff meeting and briefing of the Ministry where the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian and Disaster Management received briefings on the Social Investments Programmes and other agencies under the Ministry.

This arose as a result of widespread allegations of abscondment by Cooks, recruitment of cooks living outside of their Places of Assignment; conspiracy by cooks and some officials to defraud the programme of aggregated food items and other infractions inhibiting the effective implementation of the programme in the State.

A transparent and credible process of re-engagement of Cooks will be carried out and Cooks who are certified to have discharged their duties with distinction in the past and would want to remain on the programme will be given opportunity to apply for re-absorption into the programme while new cooks shall also be considered.

The Ministry wishes to advise the public to wait on it for guidelines on recruitment, re-engagement/engagement of Cooks and refrain

Days after he was sworn in as honourable commissioner of Humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Hon. Kunde Aondowase yesterday met with delegation of the United Nations (UN).

The delegation was on a familiarity visit to the new commissioner and also to brainstorm on ways to partner with the ministry on best global ways to manage disaster issues.
