Thomas and Jonas were neighbors and best friends. Jonas’s mom: “We moved from Karlsruhe to Frankfurt 2 years ago for my son’s cancer treatment. Jonas immediately bonded with Thomas who lived in the house next door. They became best friends and Jonas really looked up to Thomas, who was 4 months older, as a big brother. He even wanted to wear exactly the same clothes as him. Whenever Jonas felt sick after his treatment Thomas would stay by his side for hours to watch Disney movies together. On January 28th, a couple of days before his birthday Thomas died unexpectedly of sepsis after an infected cut. Jonas was absolutely heartbroken. His health deteriorated and in the months after he became sicker and sicker. On March 12th Jonas passed away after living with Neuroblastoma for more than 2 years. In a way I think Jonas was so sad to miss his friend, that it seemed like he just stopped fighting. They were both just 3 years old when they passed. Carol (Thomas’s mom) and I like to think that they are both safe in Heaven with Jesus, playing at their favorite playground”. Caroline had her first miscarriage at 8 weeks. When she was 12 weeks pregnant with her second child, she found out she had a blighted o**m. She miscarried the week after. Two more miscarriages followed in the same year 😔. This portrait was requested by her husband Steve. Steve: “Caroline always known that she wanted to be a Mum – even from when she was very young. You can imagine how happy we were after we found out that after 2 years of trying we were finally pregnant. With Mother’s Day coming up, I would like to gift her a complete family portrait with our four babies and Jesus. It will be the most meaningful thing I could ever give her and I know she’ll love it so much”. I feel so honored to bring a little happiness into grieving hearts 😭❤️

The story of this beautiful young couple broke my heart💔Mckenzie ordered this portrait for her friend Caitlin. Caitlin lost her husband Grant two weeks ago, in a tragic car accident caused by a drunken driver. They were married for a few years and just welcomed their first child 4 months ago. McKenzie wrote: “They are only 24 years old and are two of the most faithful people of Jesus Christ I have ever met in my life. I am hoping to give her this gift as a beautiful remembrance to where her husband is now. A portrait like this would touch her heart so much”. 🌹It was an honor to be able to create this portrait of Caitlin’s beautiful family❤️

This family lost their baby girl Wren to SIDS last year and recently had a son in May. Besides framing it, they will use the portrait as their Christmas card...isn’t that a beautiful idea?💕
After they received the portrait, I got the sweetest message from Amanda (the mother): “OMG Jane. Omg I’m sobbing. It’s perfect, absolutely perfect. We miss her so much and it’s like you brought her back to us. Just for today. I am speechless, absolutely speechless. Thank you. Thank you so much. Your work means so much to people. I hope you know that”

At age 20, Terra was diagnosed with FSGS, a rare kidney disease that caused a multitude of other problems. It killed both of her kidneys and she was in hospital on dialysis most of her fight. She passed away two weeks after getting a match for a kidney, while they were in the final stages of testing before surgery. She was only 25 years old 😞

On December 23rd, Jonah lost his little brother and best friend Thomas to neuroblastoma😞 They loved playing video games, soccer and long beach days with the family. A few days after I finished the portrait, I got a message from his mother Lauren. She told me that Jonah sleeps with his portrait beside him and told her it is the most beautiful gift he has ever received. Jessica’s first born passed away in October 2016. He suffered so much brain damage during birth that he was taken of life support after four days, to let him go without suffering. Every year, at least 430 people die in the U.S. from accidental CO poisoning. “On March 7th, my mother called me up saying that she and my dad had a terrible headache, and felt out of breath. They were planning on coming over for dinner, but because they were afraid of their COVID-19 symptoms, they decided to stay home. They passed away later that night because of a carbon monoxide leak in their boiler. It is my goal to raise awareness and inform as many people as I can that every home should have a carbon monoxide alarm installed somewhere. They can save your life by reacting to the carbon monoxide in your home before you’ve even experienced any symptoms”. Het vastleggen van belangrijke (en minder belangrijke) gebeurtenissen op foto en film heeft altijd een grote rol gespeeld in mijn familie. Dat kan ook niet anders als je vader fotograaf is!

Na zijn overlijden voelde de familiefoto’s zonder hem niet meer compleet. Met behulp van Photoshop probeerde ik ‘m er altijd gezellig tussen te bewerken. Op de één of andere manier gaf dat me rust en ik denk zelfs dat het me heeft geholpen in het hele rouwproces. Zo was hij er namelijk toch een beetje bij...

Al snel stopte ik met Photoshop en begon ik tekeningen te maken met hem er in. Een paar maanden geleden plaatste mijn zusje zo’n tekening op Facebook. Er kwamen toen zoveel reacties en aanvragen binnen, dat het me aan het denken zette: misschien dat anderen hier ook wel geïnteresseerd in zijn! Ik maakte een Instagram- en Etsy account aan en voila, Designs by Jane Kelly was geboren! 😃

Dus wat houdt het precies in?

De klant stuurt mij verschillende foto’s toe, die ik als het ware samenvoeg in één tekening. Vaak gaat het over een verloren dierbare, die ze willen terugzien in een recente familiefoto. Veel gelovige Amerikaanse klanten willen dat ik hun dierbare in de armen van Jezus teken. Ik teken in 3 verschillende stijlen, met 3 verschillende prijzen. Hoewel het verhaal achter de portretten vaak erg verdrietig is, haal ik veel energie uit de mooie reacties die ik krijg. Vaak maak ik de enige “foto” die ze ooit met z’n alle zullen hebben en dat wordt heel erg gewaardeerd.

Op Instagram ben ik al een tijdje bezig () en ik heb nu ook een Facebookpagina aangemaakt waar ik vanaf nu al mijn opdrachten deel. Als je zelf geïnteresseerd bent in een tekening of wat meer info wilt, dan kan je mij een priveberichtje sturen via Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Etsy of mailen naar [email protected] 💕

My heart cried when I opened my Instagram and read Mary-Ann’s message. Her daughter Lucy died a year ago in a drowning accident on a boat trip during their holiday in Mexico. Lucy was only six years old and loved being near the ocean so much, that she spelled her name as Lu-sea. Her dream was to become a dolphin trainer😞 Mary-Ann I’ve been thinking about your story all day. Sending you all my love and hope this portrait will bring some comfort to your grieving hearts😭💕💘
