YES!

When it comes to combining traditions, be flexible and keep something old, make something new, and borrow from each other till you find something that works. He and his kids open Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve. She and her kids open them Christmas morning. You might try to pull something from each tradition forward while you figure out what will work long-term. To start, you might open gifts both Christmas Eve and the next morning, but run it by the kids first so they can speak into the changes.

Remember—and this is important—there’s no one right answer. What works the first year may need to change the next, and what works for you may be entirely different for another blended family. Be considerate, talk through the options, and maintain a live-and-learn attitude. Preparing to Blend
