“Jordan, are you ready now?”
Jordan’s face fills with fear, as his eyes become wide and he sits silently, staring at Angelo.
“When you’re ready, Jordan…in your own time.”
Mateo puts his hand on Jordan’s shoulder to help ease his fear. Jordan is trembling as though he is feeling cold. Angelo gives him time and slowly Jordan calms down.
“Are you ready, Jordan?” asks Angelo. Jordan slowly nods.
“Can you tell me why you’re here?” begins Angelo.
Jordan starts speaking with great difficulty, as his voice breaks. “I killed someone…I’m a murderer…and I can’t live with myself anymore.”
A cold shiver runs down Mateo’s back and he quickly retracts his hand off Jordan’s shoulder. Angelo has a look of horror on his face, as do the other young men in the room. Jordan is sweating and takes his baseball cap off, and lays it down in front of his candle.
