Every day in the camp reminds me that our struggle is not only for survival. Yes, we receive food, shelter, and aid, but our hearts long for something deeper. These cries you hear are not for rice or tarpaulins โ€” they are for dignity, freedom, and the right to belong. We did not choose exile; we were forced to leave behind our homes, our ancestorsโ€™ graves, and our land in Arakan. Here in Bangladesh, we live caged by fences, uncertain of tomorrow. Yet, even in this suffering, our dream remains alive: to return home with dignity, safety, and rights restored.

We were born in Arakan, the land of our ancestors, where our memories, roots, and identity belong. No matter how many years we are forced to live as refugees, our hearts remain tied to that soil. We will return to Arakan, not as strangers or outsiders, but as rightful citizens who have every claim to that land. Our dignity, our rights, and our future lie there. We do not ask for pity โ€” we ask for justice. The world must stand with us so that our return is not delayed any longer. Arakan is our home, and we will go back.

A massive fire swept through Rohingya camps 24 and 25 in the Leda and Alikhali areas of Hnila Union on Sunday night, leaving dozens of families homeless. The blaze, which reportedly began around 10:30 PM, triggered a major emergency response from both residents and authorities. Suspected Cause, Phone Charger Explosion According to Mohammad Alam, president of the Leda Development Management Committee, preliminary findings suggest the fire originated in the shelter of a resident named Fatema Akter. "It is suspected that a phone charger explosion sparked the flames," Alam told Dhaka Tribune. Despite immediate efforts by locals to contain the fire, the high intensity of the blaze allowed it to spread rapidly through the densely packed huts.
Emergency Response and Damage Witnesses described a scene of chaos as the fire jumped between shelters. Resident Syed Alam noted that while the Fire Service arrived to assist, community members were forced to fight the flames themselves as at least 25 to 30 houses were gutted within the first hour. Additional DIG Muhammad Kawsar Sikder, commander of the 16th Armed Police Battalion (APBN), confirmed that the fire affected the boundary area between the Alikhali and Leda camps. "Everyone involved is working together to bring it under control," he stated, adding that an official cause has yet to be formally confirmed. No casualties were reported at the time of the incident, though the loss of property is significant.

We were born in Rakhine. Our parents and grandparents lived there for generations. We did not cross borders by choice. We fled because violence left us no option. Life in the camps of Bangladesh keeps us alive, but it takes away our identity. A refugee label means waiting, limits, and fear. Citizenship means rights, safety, and belonging. We want to return home with legal status and protection. We want to live without fences and permits. Calling us citizens is not charity. It is justice.

As Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh, we carry fear from past violence and fear of what may come next. We fled burning villages and gunfire to protect our families. As Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, we escaped killings and burned villages to protect our families. But life in the camps creates new dangers. Poverty, fear, and lack of education push families toward choices they never wanted. Early marriage is not our hope. It is a result of insecurity and desperation. Our daughters deserve classrooms, safety, and time to grow. They deserve futures shaped by choice, not crisis. Protecting children means more than survival. It means education, security, and a safe return home with rights and dignity restored.

We did not leave our land for comfort or opportunity. We ran because the Myanmar authorities killed, tortured, and hunted us. Our villages were destroyed. Our families were broken. Farooq Abdullah said the Rohingya issue must be seen as a humanitarian crisis, not a matter of religion. From the camps in Bangladesh, this truth is clear to us. We did not flee because of belief. We fled because of violence, fear, and denial of basic rights. Our suffering comes from being stateless, unprotected, and unwanted in our own land. Children grow up without education. Families survive on shrinking aid. This is about humanity, not faith. We ask the world to respond with compassion, justice, and responsibility. Protect lives. Restore rights. Create conditions for a safe and dignified return home.

These words describe why I am here today, living as a Rohingya refugee in Bangladesh. We did not leave Rakhine by choice. We fled because staying meant death, arrest, or disappearance. Villages burned. Families broke apart. Fear ruled every step. The camps keep us alive, but they cannot heal what was taken from us. We want the world to understand that exile was forced on us. We want safety, rights, and a return home where life does not threaten us. Leaving was survival. Returning with dignity is our hope.
