Music – as an expression of pure emotion. Love, loss, hope, regret, longing, joy. Music that means something. This is the only thing that really matters to us at Blue Grazer Records. 💙

When we invited the Multivariate Outliers to join our roster, we did so for many reasons. Their music is technically proficient with thoughtful arrangements and production choices, but it’s also catchy and accessible. It includes elements from many different genres, which sometimes makes them hard to label. That might make some fake record companies uncomfortable, but not us. We’re melomaniacs. But the thing that made us instantly connect with their music was the heart.

The MVOs just released the third single off of their upcoming album “All the Colors on Display”, their first as a member of the Blue Grazer Records family. And it checks all the boxes that made us fall in love with their sound in the first place: it’s expertly written, performed and produced. And, above all else, it’s emotionally true. We realize that the lion's share of streaming happens on Spotify. Naturally, it makes sense to focus on the presentation of your music there. Maybe you've even looked at your streaming numbers on other platforms and have come to the conclusion that it's hardly worth claiming your other artist profiles. Our Tuesday Tip this week is to maybe rethink that.
By no means are we suggesting that "build it and they will come" applies here. Having a good looking Apple Music, TIDAL or Deezer page will not lead to an instant increase in streaming numbers. But with more and more users looking for alternatives to the big S, don't you want your page to look good on the platforms your listeners are switching to?
You know that great visuals make a big difference - and setting up artist profiles usually doesn't take a lot of time or effort. So why not start today?

If you have indeed clicked on play, you are currently being taken away by the ethereal sounds of Hand To Heart by The gift - das Gift, or Tg/dG for short. You may be wondering about the name, which is as unique as it gets. It’s a bilingual name that contrasts the English and the German meaning of the word “gift”: In one language, it is a “present” – in the other, “poison”. The band aims to represent the duality of all things with their music. I marvel at the ingenuity of their band name to convey exactly that.

You are listening to the beautiful voice of Artemis Schubert, the creative mind who writes all the music for the band. I have had the pleasure of talking with Artemis about her creative process. I was intrigued by the ephemeral nature of her songs; how they seem easy to grasp but at the same time wispy and nebulous. When Artemis told me that she primarily writes her songs in a state of being half-asleep and half-awake, it immediately made sense to me. This is music on the threshold – the threshold of night and day, of waking and sleeping, of here and beyond. It is mesmerizing music that lives in its own, unique space, beckoning us in and inviting us to stay a while.

The lyrics of Tg/dG are just as evanescent as its music. Images are conjured before our eyes, feelings conveyed, associations made. Nothing that is ever too literal or exact. Enough to invoke ideas, but never so much as to dictate them. You, as the listener, are encouraged to take part in the mystical process of meaning making, just as you would make out a shape in the half-light of a darkened room.

The EP that is currently available is Artemis’ solo work in collaboration with a producer. In the meantime, Artemis has been joined by five other band members and is embarking on writing for this new ensemble. Hand To Heart is such an astounding debut EP that shows a huge amount of potential just waiting to be realized, so I’m sure you will share in my excitement that they will be recording more material soon. We’ll be closely watching The gift | das Gift, eager to hear new music by Artemis. If you feel the same, don’t forget to follow them on their socials and the streaming service of your choice!
