It's a sneaky meme. But I can use it to talk about fear.

People are really afraid of sharks despite other animals killing more people but that's beside the point for my post lol

Do you remember when you were a kid and you had irrational fears of the dark or of storms, etc, because you didn't understand the world? There was always a sense on vulnerability because you were so small compared to everything but also because you just didn't know.

Ok... now put yourself way back in primitive society. Back when humans had no working knowledge of the world. They just knew thunder was really loud and the storms brought lots of damage. Or, fill in the blank..

When you have no knowledge of something, you're instinctually supposed to be cautious or scare of it.

Now, with that all in mind, you should begin to see the material and biological roots of mysticism and religion
