Panda the Exchequer Leghorn is very particular about the nestbox she prefers to lay her egg in. She always lays in the Nestera Penthouse Coop in the nestbox furthest from the door.
Unfortunately, she's taught her coop-mates that this is the preferred nest box and now she has to wait to lay. Today it's Holly the French Copper Black Marans that is "hogging" her space!

What a wonderful welcome home tonight. 6 beautiful Orpington chicks and the remaining 4 eggs pipped in our Brinsea Maxi 24 Ex Connect. The incubator fits 10, but we incubated 10 eggs with all 10 growing to term!
Normally, on hatch day, we wouldn't leave an incubator, but the Brinsea Connect models send alerts to our phones if the temperature or humidity drops, so we would know if there are any problems. We were happy to go out to a local quiz night with friends. Coming home to these little squeakers was lovely!

One year ago today I broke my left leg. It took less than 5 seconds to break both my tibia and fibula from ankle to halfway up the leg and fracture 3 chunks from the ball of my tibia.
I had an amazing surgical team, and I now have 2 rods, 4 plates, and numerous screws to hold it all together.
I had 5 months of non weight bearing, resulting in a dramatic loss of mobility in my ankle and muscle wastage in the leg. I kept my hip and knee flexibility by careful daily motion without putting weight on the leg.
I committed to the programmes given to me by physiotherapists. My 1st physiotherapist told me the best I could hope for would be using a walking stick permanently. So I found a 2nd physiotherapist who showed me how much more movement I could get, but unfortunately, she moved away.
I now have an amazing physiotherapist who has helped me get close to where I was before the accident. I'm committed to getting all the way back. After all, I can't waste the metal "armour" the surgeons gave me 😉

I accidentally caught the drama of Hercules, the Orpington cockerel, doing his job as Head of Flock today. This is why having a rooster is useful in a flock.
I was trying to film for #fluffybuttfriday with feathers blowing in the wind when Holly the Copper Black Marans decided to "exert her authority" on Spring the Orpington. Hercules immediately sprang into action to separate the ladies and restore peace. He's a good boy.
