WILDCARE AUSTRALIA NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Are you passionate about wildlife conservation? Ever thought of becoming a wildlife volunteer? 🐨🐍🦜️🦔🦎🦘️

With Spring and the busy season fast approaching, we are hoping that we may be able to get some more volunteers to add to our existing pool in SE QLD 💚

There are many ways you can become involved:

🛻 TRANSPORTERS are an essential part of the wildlife volunteer network – they help get rescued sick, injured and orphaned wildlife FROM a rescuer, carer or vet clinic TO a wildlife hospital or a wildlife carer

🦘️ RESCUERS respond to calls for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife as well as wildlife in immediate danger. Sick, injured and orphaned wildlife require appropriate care and treatment as soon as possible to ensure they have the best possible chance of survival – wildlife rescuers are vital in ensuring this happens

☎️ HOTLINE OPERATORS are responsible for manning the Wildcare 24/7 emergency hotline which responds to calls for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. They provide advice on a wide variety of wildlife-related queries as well as organise the rescue and transport of injured wildlife

🐨 CARERS care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife in their own home. The aim of being a wildlife carer is to care for, and then release, healthy rehabilitated wildlife back into the wild

Becoming a wildlife volunteer can be a deeply rewarding and fulfilling experience, offering a range of personal, environmental, and societal benefits. We must remember that the welfare of the animal is of the utmost priority.

The first step is become a Wildcare member here 👉

https://form.jotform.com/212809123989061 then all our workshops are free for members!

💨 With severe weather, it’s been a wild night - so I hope everyone is ok.

There is currently a significant number of calls to the Victoria State Emergency Service line on 132-500.

If you need emergency assistance for storm damage or flooding, please be patient and keep trying.

Please take care as the extraordinary frontline crews (many of whom are our helping others while they’re affected themselves) continue to work on restoration and removal, and please avoid unnecessary travel if you’re in affected areas.

If there is a threat to life, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

If you’re looking for road closure information, visit VicTraffic: https://traffic.transport.vic.gov.au/

As always, the VicEmergency app is the place to get the most current information as the cleanup efforts continue.

Advice - Storm Surge - Stay Informed: Port Phillip, Westernport and Gippsland coast.

And with the recent news that LGBTQIA+ people won't be counted in the 2026 Census, we need to be even more visible than ever and show that we do count.

🛥️ Originating in Sicily hundreds of years ago, the Blessing of the Fleet is a tradition centred on ensuring a safe and plentiful season.

It began locally in 1955 by local fishermen who worked on Couta and crayfish boats.

Join us on the San Remo jetty from 12.30 pm on Saturday, September 21, to be part of this tradition and join in the festivities with the official blessing starting at around 1.25 pm.
