Did you know that your Linn County Sheriff’s Office has approximately 75 amazing volunteers! Every day, these volunteers help us live out our mission of “Keeping the peace with dignity, honesty and compassion.”

Our volunteers bring us their expertise and provide countless hours of support in areas such as; Search and Rescue (SAR), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Mounted Posse, and more!

Our SAR has been a program of both adult and youth volunteers. Our youth SAR volunteers have the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with the deputies of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office where they are mentored and guided through training and missions. Many of our youth have taken the valuable skills they learned and became deputies after completing their education. Since its inception, SAR volunteers have volunteered over 100,000 hours of their time! All of our youth SAR volunteers are First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen certified. We also have adult SAR volunteers who assist in Search and Rescue missions and can provide hands on medical help when arriving on scene. Our SAR medical team is made up of volunteers with certifications as EMT’s, Paramedics and RN’s! Not only do these volunteers help with life saving rescue missions, but they can also be seen around the county volunteering their time for many community events!

If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community’s professional responders, Linn County CERT volunteers assist our community by applying the basic response and organizational skills learned during their many hours of training. CERT is a group of friends, neighbors, and community members volunteering their time and resources to make a difference! CERT volunteers attend many community events and help with response to any disaster, if needed. They also have recently helped staff our phone center during the wildfire season. By doing this, they help take some of the workload off of our 911 dispatchers by answering phone calls with questions about the emergency itself!

Our Mounted Posse’s purpose is to assist the Linn County Sheriff’s Office in the fulfillment of its mission. Each Posse member volunteers their time and provides their own horse, tack, and most of their own equipment. They assist with search and rescue operations, participate in community parades, help at the Linn County Fair, organize our Special Needs Ride, and so much more! They also help promote the Mounted Posse both as the historical forerunner of law enforcement from the early days of Oregon, and as a modern adjunct to law enforcement today! These volunteers take their roles very seriously, and we are very fortunate to have so many great men and women currently in this program! It takes a lot of time, effort and dedication to be a part of our Mounted Posse!

We would not be able to provide the amazing support to the citizens of Linn County without our amazing volunteers!

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers!
