From our friend Weather Specialist Nick Dunn

BERYL: This will be one of a couple posts about Beryl I will share with you today. There are still some questions about the exact timing, location, and amounts of where the heaviest rain will fall. Attached is the European Ensemble Model showing where the "remnant Low" could be located. Ensembles are different members of the main model that run with slightly different conditions to show different outcomes. Ensemble forecasting is vital when looking into what could happen. Over the last 12 hours, a notable shift northwest has taken place, leading to a couple changes in the forecast.

By the time it reaches our area, the system will be sub-tropical since it is no longer over the warm ocean waters. However, each "L" on the map represents a possible location for the remains of Beryl at 7AM Wednesday morning. Notice how large the spread is here? Some have the system near us, and some are in completely different states. This wide array of possible locations does not give us high confidence in the location, and thus not a high confidence forecast yet. We can take a couple things away from this though:

1. Most of the possible locations are west of the Miami Valley, leaving us spared of the heaviest rainfall if this is verified. Similar to winter, the heaviest precipitation falls northwest of the center of the track. Some locations to our west could easily see 2-3"+ of rainfall.

2. With us appearing more likely (not certain) to be to the southeast of the low, this does place us on the warmer side of the system. If this pans out. we open the door for a few thunderstorms that could have a bit of "spin" to work with similar to this past Thursday. This would come down to the timing of when the remains of Beryl actually move into the region and if we will have any instability to work with.

Tropical remains have impacted us before. Many of you remember the remains of Bill, Ike, Katrina, and Sandy to name a few. Also, the remains of Cristobal as recent as June 2020 brought significant severe weather to the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes regions.

In conclusion, we have some tweaking to the forecast ahead of us with any additional adjustments models show as we get closer. Forecasting tropical remains a few days out is no easy task, so as of now we encourage you to casually monitor the forecast! - 1:30 PM 7/7/2024

July 4th update

I have good news and bad news.
The good news is today is not going to be a washout for everyone and there is some hope for festivities to happen especially the farther north you are.

The bad news:
Southwest Ohio is under a slight risk (2/5) for severe weather today. There appears to be multiple rounds of storms through out the day. Damaging winds and heavy rain will be the primary threats but unfortunately there is a tornado threat today for these storms. It's low, but it's there. It's unclear right now if storms will move out before fireworks but a nasty line of storms could be pushing through the area between Cincinnati and Columbus between about 7pm-9pm. Take that with a grain salt. Storms could develop sooner or later or possibly not at all but that is what the latest model data shows as seen below.

I will update as much as I can but I've got 4 kids in 4H and fair starts in 2 days so we are slammed with finishing up everything. Bottom line: today is a day to pay attention and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Severe thunderstorm watch possible in the next few hours.

I wanted to see a few more model runs before posting anything concrete about today's severe weather potential. That being said I honestly feel that today will be very hit or miss depending on where you are. Not everyone will see rain or storms. Some will see some really heavy rain which may lead to some flash flooding. Damaging winds still appear to be the main concern with any storms that can get their lives together. Timing looks to be between 3pm and midnight. The heat index will be over 100 for many locations today also. I will post an update early this afternoon. Have a great day.

03/07/2024

I will have an update on tomorrow's severe threat later this evening. Like this post and comment where you are following from!

I will update as needed. Enjoy the beautiful weather today and tomorrow. Plenty of sunshine with highs in the low to mid 80s.
