TINUBU, OBOREVWORI, OBASEKI, OTHERS PAY TRIBUTE TO LATE ASAGBA OF ASABA

President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and his Edo counterpart, Mr Godwin Obaseki were among guests who graced the memorial mass in honour of the late 13th Asagba of Asaba, HRM Professor Joseph Chike Edozien, CFR in Asaba, the DeltaStateCapital.

Other guests present include; Deputy Governor of the state, Sir Monday Onyeme, former Governors, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Chief James Ibori, former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, Senator Ned Nwoko, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Chairman of UBA Plc, Mr Tony Elumelu, Member House of Representatives, Hon. Ngozi Okolie, Senator James Manager, former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, NDDC Chairman, Mr Chiedu Ebie, Air Vice Marshal Frank Ajobena, traditional rulers among others.

Speaking at the memorial service held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Asaba, on Friday, President Bola Tinubu represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, in his condolence message to the people of Asaba kingdom and Delta State, said Nigeria had lost a man of great significance and one of the foremost traditional rulers in the country.

In his tribute titled "Exit of a man of significance", President Tinubu described the late Asagba of Asaba as an accomplished traditional ruler and elder statesman who served the Asaba kingdom with great purpose and distinguished himself in the field of medicine.

"As an academic icon he was Nigeria's oldest professor of Medicine and first indigenous Dean of Medicine in the University of Ibadan."

On his part, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori while condoling with the people of Asaba, urged them to emulate the legacies of the late centenarian monarch whom he described as a man of peace and an erudite medical scholar.

SOME FREE LEGAL TIPS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING LANDED PROPERTIES IN NIGERIA

1. When buying family properties, especially royal or traditional families, ensure that you are dealing with the Head of the family and at least two principal members of the family, who are adults. Anything short of this, the sale is NULL. The head of the family alone cannot sell family property and principal members of the family alone cannot sell family property. It’s even worse if you are dealing just one person claiming to be the representative of the family.

2. When buying land from a company, ensure that you get the Status Report of the company before paying. Be certain that the property is not only registered in the name of the company but also the directors are the ones signing the documents with you. Insist on getting the means of identification of the seller. If they tell you they are selling on behalf of the family, refer to number 1 above by requesting for the Deed of Power of Attorney.

3. The fact that a property has a C of O is not a conclusive proof of title. You have to be certain that the C of O was not falsified or obtained by fraud or obtained over an encumbered property. Similarly, when a property is covered by a Deed of Assignment, ensure that it is a duly registered and stamped Deed and it is verified to be unencumbered. An unregistered Deed of Assignment cannot transfer a valid legal title. It is not different from a Contract of a sale of Land.

4. When buying property from a Church or Mosque, ensure that it is registered in the registered name of the Church or the Mosque. Also, make sure that you are dealing with the registered Trustees because not all Imams and Pastors are Trustees of the Church and Mosques. In most cases, they are just employees and get paid monthly salaries. So they cannot sell any property to you.

5. When buying property from a couple. If possible, request for their marriage certificate

To further demonstrate the highest degree of love and responsibility towards the Okuama people, today, I convened a meeting of Okuama representatives led by Chief Belvis Adogbo and the Committee on the Settlement and Rehabilitation of Okuama people (IDP), chaired by Mr. Abraham Ogbodo, in Government House, Asaba.

At the meeting, I addressed the anxiety and fears of Okuama representatives over the choice of Otor-Ewu as the location of the IDP Camp, emphasizing the security of the lives of the IDPs and noting that only affected Okuama indigenes should be admitted into the camp.

During the meeting, I directed that a Health Centre and a School should be constructed immediately in Okuama community in the next few months and that a male and a female indigene of the community should be included in the IDP Camp Management Committee to serve as gatekeepers to profile those affected to be admitted into the camp. The representatives of the Okuama community also reassured me of their readiness to partner and collaborate with the state government in rebuilding their community.

Tinubu, Shettima now to pay tollgate fees at airports

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will now henceforth pay the required fees at tollgates whenever they use the nation’s airports.

This came as the the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting he presided over at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday approved that there should be no more exemption granted to users of the airports from paying tollgate fees.

The approval was made following a memorandum presented to the council by the minister of aviation, Festus Keyamo, who argued that the government was losing over 82% of the revenue it should have earned from the e-tags that provide access to the tollgates.

He explained that the memoranda had initially prescribed an exemption for only the president and the vice president before Tinubu overruled and directed that both of them should be included among those that must pay.

Keyamo, who disclosed this at the post-FEC media briefing.

Many years ago, I was stunned when my friend told me that he sorted out the annual rent of his girlfriend. The girl was living in a bed sitter, her rent was due so he stepped up to it.

DELTA LG POLLS: OBOREVWORI MAKES CASE FOR GENDER INCLUSIVENESS

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Friday, said where male chairmanship candidates emerged from the local governments party primaries, the Vice Chairman must be a woman for gender balancing.

Governor Oborevwori also directed that, at least three female councillors must emerge from each of the local governments across the state.

The Governor handed down the directive at a meeting of leaders, elders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta North Senatorial District held at Orchid Hotel, Asaba.

The Governor, who expressed appreciation to the leaders and other stakeholders of the party in Delta North Senatorial District, commended them for always showing good examples, as well as for its significant contributions to the party’s winning streak.

According to him, the Delta North Senatorial District gave him 100 per cent votes because he won in all the local government areas in the district.

On the forthcoming local government elections in the state, Governor Oborevwori said: "I have promised Deltans that I am going to do more; so, where a male aspirant emerges as Chairmanship candidate of the party, the Vice Chairmanship candidate must be a woman.

"So, tell the women to remain strong because, in some places you look for women you will not see them, but this time around, I am optimistic that we will find good women for Vice- chairmanship position.

"In each of the local governments, we must ensure that we have, at least, three female councillors; so, if any local government brings their list without inclusion of, at least, three female councillorship candidates, we will reject such lists."
