🧤🧣🌬 Probably a good time to get the thicker coats, gloves and hats ready. Appears the middle of January is shaping up to be an unseasonably cold one with the latest 8 to 14 day outlook favoring a high probability of seeing below normal temperatures east of the Lower and Mid MS River Valley. We know the question arises, will there be winter weather over the area during this arctic outbreak? The answer is, it's way too early to know. Forecasters at the NWS Mobile will continue to watch things in the days ahead. Stay tuned.

NWS Mobile: Severe storms are expected to start up this evening and continue into early tomorrow morning. Timing for NW Florida is between 9 p.m. tonight and 7 a.m. tomorrow. Damaging winds in excess of 70 mph, possibly long-tracked tornadoes and quarter-size hail are the main threats.

NW Florida is under a tornado watch until 2 a.m. Scattered wind gusts up to 80 mph likely.

Level 2 (out of 5) severe risk here: Severe storms are expected tonight late afternoon through early tomorrow morning. Scattered storms are expected later today with more severe weather during the overnight hours.

Severe weather with the potential for tornadoes, high winds and hail is forecast for this evening.

Scammers often tend to work overtime during the holidays - taking advantage of the chaos, but we want to put this latest scam totally out of business.

Someone is calling local residents CLAIMING to be OCSO Sgt. David Finke!
We DO NOT call people for unpaid traffic tickets, for missing jury duty, for collecting cash payments to get out of an arrest warrant etc. etc. etc. but the con artists just keep trying to find someone to fall for their thievery!

They will sometimes find names of actual OCSO employees to use to attempt to throw people off, but we're letting you know about it so they hopefully have totally empty stockings this year and into the future!

Please help us spread the word so no one is conned out of their hard-earned cash!

12/27, 6 p.m.: Updated Storm Prediction Center severe weather map. The Level 2 area has been extended. Okaloosa County is still in Level 1 risk area, for now.

12/27 NWS: Okaloosa County will be in a Level 1 storm risk tomorrow. Severe storms are possible tomorrow afternoon through early Sunday morning as a broken line of storms sweep across the area as early as 4 p.m. Areas to the west and north can expect damaging 60-mph winds, hail and tornadoes as strong as EF2+.
