Sept. 1 tropics update: An African wave is expected to move into favorable conditions for slow development where a tropical depression could form later this week or during the weekend. It’s at 40%.

Rain is back in the forecast through the weekend. Lows near 70°, highs in the mid 80s. A tropical wave is expected to emerge off the coast of Africa Sunday. It has a 20% chance of development as it moves into favorable conditions while it makes it way west-northwest.

Aug. 25: No rain in the forecast until Friday. Lows in the low 90s—89° for a high on Wednesday. Lows in the mid-to-high 60s. Saturday and Sundays highs are forecast to be around 87°. As for the tropics, Invest 99 is just about done--0% chance as of this morning.

8/23 tropics update: TS Fernand formed this afternoon. It is expected to remain over the open ocean. Invest 90 is beginning to show signs of organization and could become a depression during the next day or two. Once it reaches the central Caribbean next week, chances become less favorable. For now, it’s got a 40% chance of development.

Aug. 22 tropics update: Cat 1 Hurricane Erin is now post-tropical, but is likely to remain a large and powerful hurricane-force low-pressure system through the weekend. Invest 90 is likely to become TS Fernand this weekend. Invest 99 might become a TD this weekend before moving through a less-favorable environment; however, it could move into better conditions as it approaches the Windward Islands late this weekend/early next week.

For this Sunday (Aug. 24)

P.J. Adams Parkways drivers will encounter alternating lane closures, between Crab Apple Avenue and Antioch Road, Sunday, Aug. 24, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Crews will be installing a drainage pipe beneath the roadway. Law enforcement officers and traffic flaggers will be in place to safely direct drivers through the work zone.

The $72.7 million I-10at P.J. Adams interchange project is scheduled for completion in late 2026. Just a reminder, the speed limit is 60 mph in the I-10 work zone (between Yellow River to the Shoal River) and 45 mph along P.J. Adams Parkway.

Aug. 22: Rain chances through the weekend—80% today, 70% tomorrow. No rain in the forecast Monday night through Wednesday night. Got a cold front moving through next week. Big news is lows will drop into the 60s next week with a Tuesday low of 65°.

Aug. 21 tropics update: Invest 90 will likely become a tropical depression this weekend. Models show it taking a route similar to Hurricane Erin. Invest 99 could form a depression in the next day or so, but its window of opportunity is dwindling. And a new small area of low pressure in the central Atlantic will be fighting upper-level winds to develop. It has a low 30% chance.
