2024 17th Annual Songwriter Serenade

The schedule for contest entry, songwriter selection and contest event is as follows:

We are continuing a few special elements to this year’s Songwriter Serenade from our most recent weekend. These include the Friday night kick off BBQ, food and lodging for the participants at the TR Ranch, the contest on Saturday at the Schulenburg St. John Outdoor Pavilion, and Saturday evening after the contest, we will showcase the winner of the event as an opening act for the four prestigious contest Judges (Walt Wilkins, Susan Gibson, Josh Grider, Phoebe Hunt) in an outdoor performance tent at the TR Ranch. The contest and the Judges show will be live streamed. We will also have the semifinalists attend a songwriting workshop on Sunday, hosted by the four Judges. The spectacularly talented Ken Gaines will once again be our contest emcee.
The Songwriter Serenade is held at the TR Ranch and at the adjacent Schulenburg St. John Church Outdoor Pavilion, which are centrally located approximately 100 miles from Austin, Houston, and San Antonio (approximately 7 miles south of Schulenburg, off I-10).
Kick Off BBQ – TR Ranch
May 10, 2024, we are once again hosting a BBQ and Songwriter Circle for the participants at the TR Ranch beginning at 6pm. This has been a very special feature of the past year’s contests. We will send information on the BBQ & ranch lodging to the songwriters selected for the semifinals.
Contest – Schulenburg St. John’s Church Outdoor Pavilion
On May 11, 2024, the 15 songwriters selected for the contest will perform two songs for a panel of three judges in the semi final round of the contest. The semi finals will begin at 11 AM at the St. John’s Church Outdoor Pavilion, Schulenburg, TX. At the conclusion of the semi final round, the judges will select 7 songwriters to move onto the finals. The finalists will then perform one different song for the judges beginning at 3:00PM. At the conclusion of the finals round, the judges will determine the order of finish and prize money will be awarded in the following order:
1st Place... $2000, 2nd Place... $1500, 3rd Place... $1000, 4th Place... $900, 5th Place... $800, 6th Place… $700, 7th Place… $600, 8th through 15th Place... $400
Songwriter Workshop – TR Ranch
May 12, 2024
Judges will host a songwriter workshop for the contest participants at the TR Ranch. Food and beverage service will be provided by the Ranch.
10:00am – 3:00pm
Round Table workshop & individual coaching conducted by the Judges
