SF-EP-063 - Prince Tribute
SF are back with our tribute to the one , the only, Purple One - Prince Rogers Nelson.
We are profoundly saddened by the passing of one of the true musical greats of all time.
Prince was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor who has sold over a 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling artists of all time. To top it all off he has won seven grammy awards , a golden globe and an academy award for the film Purple Rain.
He was a musical innovator and known for his pioneering and diverse work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant dress and makeup, and extensive vocal qualities and range. He had the brilliant ability to incorporate a wide variety of styles, including funk, r and b, rock, pop, psychedelic and new wave into his own original and unique persona and groundbreaking tackling of lyrical subject matter that was deemed taboo back in the 70's, 80's and 90's.
He left us some of the greatest records of all time including Dirty Mind, Controversy (Prince album), 1999 , Purple Rain (album), Around the World in a Day, Parade, Sign o' the Times (album), Lovesexy, Diamonds and Pearls and a great film - Purple Rain, need we say more.
To lose a genius like David Bowie earlier in the year was bad enough , but to lose Prince, another of pop music's true mavericks and popular music's most well known cult artist is a kick in the royal teeth.
He was still a young man as well, who was still releasing new music like it was going out of style and had recently did a concert tour. So, calling this a tragedy is an understatement, as he still had some more music to share with his loyal fans.
Given all of this, Special Features have decided to put together a tribute episode , where we discuss the man, the music, the myth and everything else in between. We talk about the influence that Prince has had on us, popular culture and music at large.
So sit back, relax and let us all remember Prince - his legacy and the sheer depth of musical riches that he left us, which is the truest gift that Prince could ever leave the world
Peace out Purple One and thanks for the music,
Tone and Nath
