STUDIO UPDATE-The new digs are super vibey and magical, and it’s been a smooth transition so far. We’ve got a crew to help move the Neve desk and outboard gear on Jan 3rd, as it will take several of us to get this part done. There’s also room treatments to work out. In the meantime, we’ve still got mixing and vocal sessions at the cabin for the next several days. We’ve been able to move and work simultaneously, which has been super excellent. Dirt Floor will be back to our normally scheduled sessions at the end of the first week of January. Whew!

Thanks to so many of you, a chapter of the Dirt Floor story ends, and another exciting one begins. It’s time to evolve, and we’re growing. The cabin has been home for the last ten years, and the music, memories and friendships forged here will last forever. It will always be a big part of our story, and if you made music here, a big part of yours too! Thanks to the Brookes family, who will always be family to me, my wife Linda, and our children. It’s time to return this house to them, with all the love and good energy it had when we found it.
Dirt Floor is moving into our H***y Château, Nellcôte, Headley Grange era, and will be moving the Neve console and outboard gear in the next two weeks. We'll be back to our normal working schedule by the second week of January. We hope to see you in 2025, and beyond!

Getting those David Lindley/Jackson Browne vibes.
Anyone can open a studio. Anyone can buy gear and fill a space. Theres nothing special about that, seriously. What’s kept Dirt Floor on a trajectory for 17 years is a stellar rep, a great team, and killer production. I’m unapologetically confident and proud, because it’s been earned through years of hard work. REAL work. Not some fake Instagram cosplay bu****it. Let’s face it, there’s A TON of that out there. Anyway, I digress!
I can put it all together from a production standpoint, with instrumentation and arrangement. This is not typical in your average recording studio, and it’s what sets us far apart. Of course it’s not always necessary for this to be done, and not every artist or band will need my assistance. That’s cool too.
This song came in purely acoustic, but became more powerful and emotional, thanks to the artists willingness to let us take it to this place. There was a Jackson Browne/Dawes kind of vibe happening in the original song, so we just followed it!

2024 New England Music Awards nom for "Producer of the Year", sweet...
I've been nominated in this category four times over the years, but have yet to "win". The thing is, it’s never had an impact either way, and these things are not to be taken seriously. Sure, It's nice to know our work is recognized by whoever makes these. I win every day, because I do what I love with people I love. Also, a vote for me is a vote for my crew at Dirt Floor Recording & Production. I’m certain I will not “win“ again this year, but that’s also fine. I don’t have time or patience to w***e myself and share a link to vote every single damn day. See, that is ultimately how these things work, and what makes them baseless and silly. There’s NO criteria. It’s a popularity contest as a result of how many people you can have vote for you, and nothing to do with the impact you’ve made with your art, or the amount of people you have truly reached. It’s just numbers. But f**k it, let’s play the game!
I'm thrilled for my musical fam Kerri Powers, Jay Psaros and Wolff Sisters, who are also up for awards. They also recognize the silliness of it all...
Vote at the link below, if not for me, then for whoever you think is most deserving.
Thanks, and now back to our regularly scheduled programming!

Making brand new music, and memories, with Jay Psaros and his band of bros… They’ve become great friends over the last couple of years, and it’s good to hang and make music with them again!

Cracked the code on my favorite LinnDrum beat from the summer of 1984. Can you name the song? It’s pretty obvious. Also, I’m thinking about doing a faithful recreation of the song now that I’ve got the groove!

Rachael Wolff is like fam, as are her wonderful sisters Kat and Becca. I’ve had the chance to make two killer records with The Wolff Sisters, and am thrilled to work with Rachael on some new music all her own.
A few words from Rachael-

My debut single ‘Drive It Till It Dies’ drops July 22nd 🎶

I’ve been writing, playing, and releasing music with my band and sisters since I was a teenager but this is my first time releasing solo music. It feels strange to branch out on my own but it was fun to challenge myself and I’m proud of what I accomplished with this song. I hope you like it 🎶
