From Pacific Edge Climbing Gym to the Olympics: Meet Natalia Grossman, the 22-year-old climbing sensation breaking records and inspiring dreams. With roots in Santa Cruz and a heart set on the Olympics, Natalia's journey from local gyms to the global stage is one of grit, determination, and believing in oneself. 🏅

In her off-time, Natalia paints, reads, and is constantly learning more about her interests in psychology and other aspects of life. 🌟

“Knowing how the mind works helps me because I can apply it to climbing, how I approach my day, and how I treat others”

The most challenging aspects of competitions are not physical, but mental. When it’s time to take the stage in front of cameras and crowds, Natalia believes in herself, knows that she has trained to the best of her ability, and focuses on having fun and climbing. 🧗‍♀️

Big mountain skier and industry icon, Ingrid Backstrom returns to the Sports Winter Speaker Series tomorrow night.

The show is hosted at the Palisades Tahoe Olympic Village Events Center and can also be livestreamed, for free, on Alpenglow’s YouTube channel.

Both shows are FREE to the public and include giveaways. All ages are encouraged to attend. Doors and food are available at 6pm and the show starts promptly at 7pm. Ingrid’s show is dedicated to the non-profit beneficiary, the Scotty Lapp Foundation.

Tramping through the snow all day wore me out, but the sufferfest had just begun. Late in the afternoon when I usually built camp, I realized that I’d lost the trail beneath the snow.

🌲When it’s not raining, Castle Rock State Park offers amazing hiking and rock climbing just under an hour away from Santa Cruz! 🥾And when it is raining you can still get out and have some adventure! 🌧️We went out last weekend in a break from the rain and sent some climbs at Indian Rock 🧗🏽 just remember to bring water and snacks and plan beforehand as there is no cell service there!

Mammoth Mountain is known for big snowfall and long ski seasons and last season was one for the record books — they received over 700 inches of snow and stayed open for more than 270 days of skiing and riding. ⛷🏂

While skiers and riders reveled on the snow well into summer, the Mammoth construction teams were hard at work replacing chairlifts, building new activities, and improving Mammoth’s already robust snowmaking system. There’s a lot of fun on tap this winter in Mammoth. ❄️ 😎

Named for the 1853 wreck of the clipper ship Carrier Pigeon, Pigeon Point Lighthouse was first lit on Nov. 15, 1872. The 115-foot structure is the tallest operating lighthouse on the West Coast. Pigeon Point Light Station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places—a reminder of the days when whalers and Gold Rush-era clipper ships fought gales, stiff seas, jagged coastal rocks, and unforgiving fog. The lighthouse has been closed to the public since late 2001, when it was deemed unsafe after two large pieces of brick and iron fell from the top of the building. Funding issues, COVID-19 and a thoughtful process to ensure a contractor with the special skills to work on a lighthouse was selected have been the reasons for the continued closure of this historic building.

“California State Parks looks forward to once again providing public access to this historic landmark that continues to guide mariners along the rocky San Mateo County coast,” stated Santa Cruz District Superintendent Chris Spohrer. “Thank you to our partners for their support over the years and the public for their patience.”
