What a way to end 2022 and the incredible year of weddings it was: what a trek it is to go all the way to the Bahamas to celebrate with .skeele and and be a part of their glorious sun filled week on Green Turtle Cay.
It takes more effort to come to a destination wedding but they also are our favourite as you leave with a great set of new friends and the feeling you have captured something truly special.

Getting to do something fun the morning of your wedding doesn’t have to be just for the boys! I sure didn’t mind waking up before sunrise to hang out with and her gang of mermaids; a refreshing and epic start before a very busy day ahead.

Remember the Mother’s Day giveaway? was one of the two nz winners thanks to her sister . Not long after she found out she was pregnant so we waited it out a bit and last weekend I went up to Tairua to photograph her on film (as you know!) and it looked amazing. We created some simple magic in just 20min.

I had a long winded text written but we all have read enough. So I’ll keep it to this simple message: just love each other even if it means stay away from those you care about, stay stuck inside, feel uncertain, limit your freedom. We are all in this together and most of us don’t have it as hard as others, and I’m thinking of this of those who have lost someone or those selfless health professionals who risk their lives to save ours. And if you can safely hug someone, do. If you’re alone, get in touch. No need to do this alone even in isolation.

The moments I love the most in my work is all those in-between and it always feel so amazing to be asked to take part in more than just that wedding day. I often say the wedding is an excuse for something more important and a bigger story. And it so is.

Sometimes to be better at your craft, you need to look beyond your normal day to day and get excited again. I have found it certainly truer now more than ever with the recent struggles and it also has helped me recentre on what makes my heart skip a beat when I run out of energy and time to feel it matters to me that I exist.
In any darkness, I search for what brings me light so I can be more present for my family and my bubblerock people.

One thing I wish we had time to do at every single wedding is a 15min portrait session of the bride. In fact, every girl should feel confident to have a fashion-style portrait of themselves because we all want to feel empowered and beautiful.
And I am 100% obsessed with this portrait shot on analog. There really isn’t much else that excites me these days as much as shooting film.

Family sessions on film are the best. In fact, anything shot on film is the best. I don’t know why I don’t show it off more when 90% of what I post here is shot on film. 2020 is upon us so before the year is over, I want to shoot more sessions on film: anywhere between Tauranga and Auckland. Let’s do it! Feel the analogue vibe!!

How do you move on from a pretty personal post to try and resume life as normally as possible. How can we? Work/insta seem trivial right now but slowly transitioning back to some normality will be needed soon so I felt I should post an image that I connect with so deeply whilst i lay next to Axel asleep in his hospital bed.

This is not a pity post. This is a way for me to inform many of my past and future clients rather than with many emails that we are going through some super tough times as a family and I may be very long answering emails, sending packages, editing work, and generally doing what you need me to do for you and I’m so truly sorry. Our little boy is going through a very hard time in hospital right now and we have been there non stop for two days now and won’t be going out for about a week all up. Then there will be a new life with massive adjustments ahead of us and to be perfectly honest: I am feeling lost, weak, and very fearful of the future. I am sure we will be ok but I just am here wanting to apologise if you as a friend, as a client, and as anyone expecting anything from me right now have to suffer indirectly from this ordeal. This is not easy to post about being vulnerable but it is easier to explain broadly to those who I know follow us rather than having to rewrite the same email over and over.

SO VERY excited to see this amazing celebration featured on the front page of today. It was one of the highlights of our career with so many incredible moments shared and captured with and Freddie over in France last summer. From stylish welcome events, a fun pool party, and partying in a cave whilst wearing 1700 style wigs: it had it all but most of all it had the love.

What can be posted after talking about a real-life rockstar wedding you just filmed? Well. How about talking about another kind of rockstar’s wedding. Sher and Brett’s wedding in the Bahamas set the tone for 2019 and one of our most incredible years yet. And she’s just not anybody for us. She’s a dear friend now. Someone we love, and feel lucky to have in our lives. Next stop. Jamaica in June 2020 for a wedding just as gorgeous with the sweet Marissa!

Melody & Flea, words fail me for so many reasons when thinking about this past weekend. We got to witness a love that transcends any status and brings both of these two beautiful people back to just being two Humans adoring each other. Being a part of this and getting to make a film of it for them both will remain one of the most electrifying and magical moments of our lives.
Congrats and . You two share something that most can only dream of. It was certainly a love supreme.

You know how glad I am we don’t see likes on Instagram anymore? Very glad. Because it brings so much more intention in what we post and we are not tempted to play the like-game. Sure. It’s nice to receive lots of them but it’s so liberating to get to post what matters to you over what will perform well.
So here is a simple shot that speaks volume to me because it was not only shot on film (and you know I love it) but it also represents that feeling of freedom to show what we love and share with the world what gets us excited. So much yes for this!!

This weekend marked our 5th official speaking gig but the very first time I lead the film photography talk alone, and it was a big deal for me.
If you know me, you know how obsessed with all things analog I am, how capturing moments, people, emotions, and realness on a negative gives me so much joy. Beyond the constraints of shooting film, there is a heap of learning to be made, an intention brought back into our work, and just creating something tangible feels amazing.

So we want to thank the girls of Down to Photo for organising one heck of a weekend for photographers, and it was a true honour to stand besides other incredible speakers and learning from an insanely cool group of attendees. There was no barrier, there was no hierarchy, there was just fun, openness, and vulnerability for every single one of us.

I cannot wait for the next opportunity to share about film and take more people on that analog journey.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Kodak for gifting rolls of everyone to practice on and I can tell you one thing, film wasn't dead for us this weekend and it won't be dead for us for years to come!

I don’t often do family photos and I don’t really share them but when fellow photographer asks you if you could snap a couple of photos of his gorgeous family, well you do and do it on film too; it’s more fun.
As photogs, we are always the worst ones at being in front of the camera with the people we love so the honour was all mine to not only capture them but to have James experience one of the amazing things he gives his own clients: real moments of real emotions. priceless. Thank you so much to you three. I’m a better person and photographer for the experience.

When couples become friends - we couldn’t feel any luckier. And when one gorgeous bride who became a soul sister turns 30, we just have to do a big shout out; because MK, we love you more than we could ever say and we will never forget the incredible week we spent in Italy with you and the last two years of friendship that has followed. We wish you the most incredible day, you deserve so much and so much more.

Today I’m grateful for the people this adventure has put on our path and for how incredibly lucky we are to have fun, caring, and supportive clients. There is a lot to say about communication and being honest with the couples who trusted you and I believe it is a huge part of what makes us, well, bubblerock. We care for them and we get it all back especially when times are hard.
So to you our people, i thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness hasn’t got unnoticed.

No one prepares you for the insane ride that parenthood brings into your life. It’s a mix of the hardest thing and the easiest thing you’ve ever done.
This little 3yo legend has experienced as many cool adventures as some hard stuff for his age and he just goes through it all with mostly a smile. But the very fact that we can't protect him from everything (and arguably we shouldn’t in some cases) is one of those breaking-your-spirit type of feeling. I guess that’s what they call unconditional love.
I don’t photograph him enough or maybe I do just enough. Enough for him to be able to remember those adventures with maman and daddy without drowning him with too many images that would dilute how special they are. And this is why I love film. Again and again.

How on earth do you pick one image to represent 3 incredible days but most importantly the encapsulate the essence of two people, the adventure we went on both physically and emotionally, the incredible places we found ourselves in, one image is not enough but one image will have to do for now. And describing the feeling we have for these two as they invited us over for their wedding in Morocco. We arrived as photographers. We became friends. We left as family. I think that’s a good way of putting it.
Saying we feel lucky doesn’t even begin to explain it all.

When editing late at night, I sometimes need to step back and re-examine what makes us excited about bubblerock and the work we do. See, I just had a moment of self-doubt most likely resulting from utter-tiredness (little Axel decided to be sick over the last 5 days meaning endless cuddles, hospital stay & short nights) but then I watched this film we made a few months back; one of our early 2017 weddings and I realised: wow, sh... we get to create some seriously cool stuff...
