When we arrived on the early side last Thursday, the vibes were low-key — maybe even off-key. But as the (really hot, and really good) basket of breads hit our table, the room started to fill up, and the music — an ’80s soundtrack — turned up. Soon, the bar was packed, and the tables followed, with a crowd ranging in age from 25 to 80. Cafe Commerce started to feel like the restaurant I remembered. Today, FOUND is at a delightfully familiar feeling restaurant, plus a routine from Spring Cafe, a shop of local treasures, and where to get booze and books. Read at the link in bio. My laptop is ideally shut by 530p and I’m heading out for an early dinner. Lately, you’ll find me beelining for Bar Bete in Cobble Hill for wine and comforting small plates or Raku for a beer and the city’s best udon. My home-away-from-home and the perfect Friday night date is Rosella. (A martini at Death & Co beforehand is always a good idea.) In today’s FOUND, a routine from a cocktail lover, plus homes for sale in Noho, a relaxed wine bar in Williamsburg, and the best bakeries in the Hudson Valley. Just before 5p on a frigid Wednesday, a line had already formed outside. I’d snagged the only thing available when booking two weeks out, an early seat at the bar, which overlooks a mostly white, oversized dining room, warmed up with ironed tablecloths, long-stem candles, whimsical bright murals, and glimpses of bright yellow and hot pink bathroom tiles. In today’s FOUND NY, a new spot from the duo behind Dame and Lord’s, plus a jewelers routine, leggings to live in, and where to dine-in for lunch. Get it at the link in bio. From our table, I had a clear view of an attractive taxidermied jaguar mounted on one of the art-filled walls. I drank Topo Chico in an elegant tumbler, inside which were stacked three very attractive clear ice cubes, and the kid had a blender drink — strawberry, coconut, pineapple, and lime juice, served in a tall glass full of (also gorgeous) ice nuggets. This attention to the aesthetics of ice is a tip-off that the place originally opened as a bar (they called it a “nighttime café”), with just enough good food to keep hungry drinkers upright. In Friday’s FOUND NY, a mother-son trip to Queens, plus galleries to check out, homes upstate, and cocktails uptown. David and I also love checking out similarly-sized boutique hotels in different markets, although these trips always feel like work, too, since we literally take notes on everything from room booklets to menu design, signage, and amenities. Last year we loved our stay at Guild House in Philadelphia. We also took our kids on a Berkshires road trip to Tourists and Little Cat Lodge, which is still our son’s favorite spot thanks to the bottomless babka and berries they serve at breakfast. In today’s FOUND, a routine from an Upstate hotelier, plus a trip to Ridgewood, gallery shows to check out, houses for sale in the Hudson valley, and drinks on the UES. The food, Middle Eastern in bent, is excellent, especially if you find yourself craving lamb. For starters, there’s lamb tartare, and for mains, the pièce de résistance is lamb wellington. Our four-top loved the bread service, the dazzling chicken liver mousse, the shish barak, and, yes, that lamb wellington (as unabashed an entree as you’ll find anywhere in the city right now). If you missed it, Tuesday’s FOUND NY featured a report from a lamb-forward Union Square spot, a very cool routine, notes from New York’s newest rotating restaurant, and much more. Salamon grew up in Florida and spent summers in North Carolina, and you can taste the south in the food at Pitt’s. Starters include gouda pimento cheese with fried saltines and pickled shrimp with oyster mayo, while the dessert menu features a playful take on Atlantic Beach pie with a saltine crust, tangy grapefruit curd, and sour cream whip. In today’s FOUND, dinner at Red Hook’s new hot spot, summer rentals in The Hamptons, a cake-makers routine, a top-tier Jackson Hole hotel, and provisions in the Hudson Valley. They launched an empire from the East Village that changed dining forever, but the Momofuku group hasn’t introduced a new restaurant concept in New York City since Bar Wayō in 2019. That changed last Thursday. FOUND NY is on the scene at this new restaurant, plus a guide to Brooklyn’s best design street, last minute Valentine’s plans, and florists for special occasions. After I went on a buying trip for Outline, my husband and I did a long weekend in Rome. Neither of us had been since we were kids, so it was a first-time of sorts. We stayed at Hotel Locarno, which I think is a perfect hotel — the best combination of luxury and feeling homey. It has an incredible breakfast, beautiful courtyard, and everyone who works there is so nice. In Friday’s FOUND NY, shop owner Margaret Austin shared a full routine of unexpected recommendations and neighborhood favorites. Read the whole routine and subscribe at foundny.com.

The space’s aesthetics are restrained in a way that draws your focus to the table and its textured dishware from Ithaca-based Beiko Ceramics. Still, when my eyes did wander, I saw that not only did Julia know everyone, but everyone knew everyone, including the rest of the staff, who were pleasantly chatty and quick with a recommendation. It isn’t always the fastest meal, but nobody’s hurrying to leave. In today’s FOUND NY, a local’s favorite in the Catskills, a routine from a Brooklyn shop owner, plus a new bar in Flatiron, and where to get food for the Big Game. Read it at the link in bio. Today we’re doing some recipe testing for a couple of new cookie ideas we’ve been working on. It sometimes takes us years to get something we feel that we like enough to offer in the bakeries. We’re revisiting something we’ve had in the works since 2020, and trying two new ideas. In Tuesday’s FOUND NY, a routine from the duo behind the iconic Levain Bakery. All about how they create, where they go to dinner, their favorite spot for a mid-day snack, and more. Read all the recommendations and subscribe at foundny.com.

Ha’s kitchen, open in the back of the restaurant, can barely fit two people. It feels less New York in 2025 than it does Paris, where tiny spaces with intimate dining environs deliver inversely proportional impact to the city’s culinary landscape. But such is Ha’s Snack Bar, in New York, in 2025: exceptional food, a killer wine list, and impeccable vibes, which were evident as soon as I got back to the restaurant. Today, FOUND dines at a favorite pop-up turned permanent, plus the fine dining report, a routine from cookie masters, and chocolate for Valentine’s Day. Once on board, the pampering continued with a new experience for the pups every hour: a pupachino, “chompagne,” old socks and shoes. Scout even got wrapped up in a robe for a “spaw” treatment where his ears were cleaned, paws detailed, and head massaged until he fell asleep. Continuing this week’s theme of dogs, today’s FOUND NY boards a plane full of canines, plus a selection of not-to-be-missed West Village real estate listings, a Gowanus Italian spot, and Aprés Ski destinations in the Catskills. Just before I’m about to go home, I get a text from my friend Kevin asking me to meet him for a drink. I need to get back and cook dinner (a Moroccan chicken tagine) for my family, but Kevin lives in our Brooklyn neighborhood, so we go somewhere nearby: Anaïs, the newish wine bar from the owners of Rucola. Anaïs is going for a “literary Parisian” feel, and it’s getting there — it needs to be a bit more worn-in first — but that’s clearly ambiance for a pretentious snob like me. In Tuesday’s FOUND NY, a routine from Matt Gross, with favorite spots to eat, meet, work, and go. Read the full routine and subscribe at foundny.com.

The reincarnated historic restaurant is a rich subgenre of New York City’s dining scene. Be it Minetta Tavern, Gage & Tollner, or (more recently) Le Veau d’Or, it’s clear that New York remains infatuated with its past. To wit: Recently opened Lundy Bros. in Red Hook is a reinterpretation of the original Lundy’s, which operated in Sheepshead Bay for several decades beginning in the 1920s. Today’s FOUND NY is at this new (old) spot in Red Hook, plus shopping for the canines in your life. Read it at the link in bio. Subscribe at foundny.com.

Opened in 2018 with a homey Iranian menu and pale dining room exemplifying the style of the time, Prospect Heights’ extraordinary Sofreh remains so good that on a recent visit, I grimaced a bit, thinking about all the time I’d wasted elsewhere since its premiere. Today, FOUND revisits a favorite, plus a trip to an exclusive hotel in Utah, Park Slope listings, and where to grab a bite late night. Find it at the link in bio. Subscribe at foundny.com.
